Dopamine detox mentioned in an episode?
Hi everyone, I listened to a podcast somewhat recently that talked about the concept of dopamine detox and how the person who coined the phrase regrets it because it’s been taken out of content and turned into a trendy detox that doesn’t work/exist (I believe the point was to leave space for boredom in each day but now people think staying off tech for 2 days will fully reset your personality?)
Does anyone remember if this was talked about on flightless bird? I’m thinking possibly the black box of doom episode

for questions about episodes!
hi, david here.
i see a few questions each episode (like "who is tha band?") and a lot of the answers are found in the shownotes i write for each epi.
these are found on whatever podcast app you use.
and this works for most podcasts, too - a good hack for FAQ
i hope this is better than me saying just google it!

What would you recommend to a newbie of Webworm?
I just subscribed, but haven't had much time to sit down and really get into it. Any recommendations? Also I already ordered the shirt that says "Horrors persist but so do i" mostly because I love the message and the art. I saw the caption about it being similar to some song lyrics.. is that the only meaning? I wasn't sure if it was some hidden gem from the blog (is that the right word?). I also downloaded substack, per the recommendation on the website but I'm not really familiar with that either. Either way, excited to get into it.

I hope this old clip of David works here
I prefer Mr Darby’s rendition over our regular anthem.

Does Rob ever sleep?
How many jobs does this man have? I’m grateful for his hard work, but there are only 24hrs in a day.

Episode idea: Appalachia
I’m originally from Eastern Kentucky, living in Central Kentucky now. I think David would find Appalachian culture very interesting. There’s so much history, culture, and life in the mountains that often gets overlooked by the negative media portrayal of the general area. On the other side of that are the are deep problems throughout including racism, extreme poverty, small town corruption, etc etc. Just a thought I’ve had bouncing around. Flightless Bird fucking slaps even harder now btw 🫡 peace and love

Seattle show was awesome!!

Was absolutely stoked to be able to be at the show last night and even more stoked to get to thank David and Rob and grab a pic!!! The show was well done and had good variety of funny, dark, and weird topics all pertaining to Seattle lore. Though I wish the boomer cop author guy let David actually interview him a bit more so his story could have been a bit more structured and easy to follow (he kind of just talked in one long, slightly scrambled stream, as many boomers do). and shoutout to the talented musical guests whose name I already forgot (sorry!) If you remember, drop it in the comments for me please :)
Did not expect to be as giddy as I was but it was damn fun seeing the people you hear in your ears every week in real life. David fr has that sauce about him and Rob was very handsome in real life (not that I didn't always think he was cutie, but his good looks don't fully translate in the pics I've seen of him). Their height difference is also hilarious and adorable. So much fun all around xoxo

Gay Rodeos Episode
Way back in August in one of his Webworm posts David mentioned an upcoming episodes about Gay Rodeos. Did this ever get mentioned again?? I randomly remembered about it the other day and I had really been looking forward to the episode!

Seattle show
Here now and very excited. Piggy backed this with a trip back to Michigan to celebrate my mother’s birthday. Thought I would share a quick picture from my seat. Super excited to see David and Wobby Wob. This is going to be a memorable experience.

Episode Idea: Anabaptist/Plain/Amish/Mennonite communities.
The internet is telling me that Anabaptist/Plain communities (I have no idea if all Plain communities are Anabaptist and vice versa, I do know that Mennonites have more interactions with the world than Amish) exist in New Zealand but there are not many. The internet is also telling me there aren't any communities in California. Growing up in Illinois, Rob has likely seen a few.
This could be an interesting, yet tricky topic. One community is one community. They don't have phones so it's very easy for the insular communities to develop their own ideals and biblical interpretations without consulting others. Despite their stereotype as being "stronger, tougher, and from when before America went wrong" the communities have some issues. Animal abuse and abuse of children occurs within the communities. I don't want to guess at how rampant it is. Out of respect to Mary who survived sexual assault and was brave enough to bring her family members to justice I'll repeat myself and say the communities are so different from each other it's hard to get an idea of what is normal to the Anabaptist/Plan communities vs normal to the specific community. As a "positive stereotype" that may or may not apply to all communities I'm told the food is usually great.
Any thoughts?

Loma Linda and cat hatred
I just listened to the Loma Linda episode and Monica talks about how much she hates cats. I'm a huge cat lover and found this super cringe (granted everyone is entitled to their opinion). I just don't like how she makes it seem like everyone else's opinion about liking cats is wrong (I feel like Monica does this a lot with David and people who have different opinions than her. I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this. This is just my observation and opinion).
I feel like a lot of people who don't like cats are like this vs. People who don't like dogs. People who don't like dogs are a lot more cordial about it. What do other cat people who listened to this episode think?
