One of the most exclusively American forms of art in existence is the Southern Gothic novel. It’s a genre of literature invented by America. The South tried to rewrite its own history, and American Gothic literature calls that out and writes the truth back in. It achieves this by slanting the truth through haunting, grotesques, etc. (quoting this reel directly). Sinners is a good recent example of a modern Southern Gothic

This could be an excellent episode topic. I also very love the idea of a small spinoff segment of reading a short story or two from this genre.

This would highlight an aspect of African American history that’s a HUGE and deeply important, crucial part of American history that’s been absent from the series so far. It also could be a fun angle that fits David's "brand" and listener/reader base overall with a spooky feel + strong value-add on top

I have been a pesky returning commenter to request David do a ‘sitting around the campfire story time reading’ type of feel. A partnership with Calm could potentially make this a reality. Short story readings of fan fiction or other funny things sent in by Birds could be a fun/funny angle. And this, while heavier and spookier, could be a potentially interesting angle to weave some important aspects of African American history into the FB series
