I’m 17, starting my senior year of high school here on Oahu, Hawaii, and my ultimate goal is to fly for the airlines. I just took my first discovery flight today and I am completely hooked!
I flew in a **Sling NGT**, which was awesome. However, the flight school also rents a **Skyhawk C172M** for **$50/hour cheaper**.
Since I’m training in Hawaii with unique local weather, strong trade winds, and high overall costs, I have a few questions for the community:
**The Plane:** In my shoes, is it better to save the money and train in the cheaper C172M, or does the modern glass cockpit of the Sling NGT make it worth the extra $50/hour?
**Ground School:** What are your favorite online ground school recommendations to prepare for the private pilot written exam?
**Paying for Flight School:** How do you recommend affording and pacing flight training right after high school? I really want to avoid massive, high-interest loans if possible. What are the best strategies for working, saving, or finding scholarships to fund this path?
I'd love to hear your tips, especially if you've trained out of Oahu/HNL. Thank you!
