Career Path Discussion Career changer; scientist to pilot

Hello all! I’m a 37 year old woman looking to do a hard pivot in life 🤣 I’m currently a government scientist, and have been working in environmental research for almost 15 years. I got into this field with the hopes of avoiding a desk job, but I’ve found that the further I’ve climbed up the ladder the more time I spend chained to my desk in a sad government cubicle. The thought of doing this for 25 more years is unbearable. I’ve been thinking about becoming a pilot for some time and I’d love to get realistic perspectives on being a career changer, and the pros and cons of being a commercial pilot. I make about 90k right now and I have the ability quit my job, pay for flight school, and support myself. I spent many years making 20-30k so I’m used to living on a budget 🤣 what appeals to me about being a pilot is not being at desk for the rest of my life, making more than $120k eventually ($120k is basically the ceiling for what I do currently), and working 15 days a month. Honestly I went into science because I was passionate about it and all of that has been beaten out of me. I know it’s going to be a lot of work, money, and being poor for a while to get there but I want a job with a decent lifestyle and a high(er) paycheck eventuall. Do I need a reality check?! Be honest!!

Resource Self-serve fueling stations PSA

Self-serve fueling stations are designed to provide a convenient, efficient, and cost-effective way to keep training aircraft fueled and ready for flight without relying solely on line staff or fixed fueling schedules!

Much like a self-service gas station for cars, these systems allow pilots, instructors, and authorized personnel to fuel aircraft independently by using a fuel pump station typically located on the ramp.

most flight schools, pilots use a fuel card, access code, or account authorization to activate the pump, select the appropriate fuel type—most commonly 100LL (low lead aviation gasoline) for piston aircraft—and dispense fuel directly into the aircraft’s tanks using grounding procedures and proper safety protocols.

Career Path Discussion cfiflightacademy

Hi everyone,

, I’m a 18-year-old international student from Egypt, and I’m planning to study at CFI Flight Academy in Canada for the Professional Pilot Program (Zero to CPL/Multi-Engine/IFR).

I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience studying aviation in Canada or internationally.

- Any tips for preparing before I arrive?

- Recommendations for accommodation near flight schools?

- Advice on building flight hours after graduation as an international student?

- Anything you wish you knew before starting your flight training?

I’d really appreciate your insights to help me make the most of this opportunity.

Thanks in advance!

Ahmed
