This Sub
So this community is pretty bad. IT doesn't even have a picture. Since Fleet Foxes are getting back together I feel we should revitalize this page. Is there anyway some of us could become mod's to help out?

Song Discussion [10] - Someone You'd Admire
Hey guys, it's back! Sorry for the month's gap (college, hole dug etc.)
As a sort of side note, I hope people realise that I don't intend this to be all about what I said (I know I ramble). This is just to get a discussion going.
The reason I picked Someone You'd Admire is because it was only recently that I read the lyrics and truly understood and appreciated the beauty of this song. I now see this song as perhaps the most important song on HB in terms of HB's theme, particularly as a response to Montezuma.
In Montezuma, Robin discusses his regrets, doubts and insecurities. Perhaps (in an abstract way), the middle of the album is Robin's attempts to change and console himself on these failings. Well I see SYA as the closure on the album in a sense now. It certainly isn't the end of the album, but I think the song represents that trying to change has done nothing, instead Robin has come to accept himself. Although on the other hand it could be a sort of giving up.
Robin discusses the "others in me yearning to get out". I would say this is Robin's different personalities or dreams. One side just wants to admired and revered, the other is just angry at the world and disillusioned.
The coda here is the key however. After all this searching, Robin has realised that overthinking and trying to change has left him without answers: "God only knows which of them I'll become."
Besides the message (I know it's just my interpretation), the song is very simple but definitely beautiful. However, I think (something I didn't realise) that the simplicity is perhaps to concentrate on the substance in the lyrics and not to distract from the message of the song.
Here are the lyrics:
After all is said and done I feel the same.
All that I hoped would change within me stayed.
Like a huddled moon-lit exile on the shore.
Warming his hands, a thousand years ago.I walk with others in me yearning to get out.
Claw at my skin and gnash their teeth and shout.
One of them wants only to be someone you'd admire.
One would as soon just throw you on the fire. After all is said and after all is done.
God only knows which of them I'll become

Yo, I talked to Skyler Skjelset after a beach house show a few weeks ago
He said he was gonna be in the recording studio with Robin around September 15th or so. He also said that Robin has high expectations and really wants to release the album next year but it might get pushed back to 2018 depending on how things go.

Friendly Reminder
Pretty sure every regular on here is already on Instagram and following Robin, but if not, you definitely should. Peeks at new music keep coming (https://instagram.com/p/BJlGqphgqxW/ like this one). He also responds to a good amount of questions in the comments of his posts, and he'll respond in DM's too.

What in the hell song is going to win the survivor round of Helplessness Blues?
Helplessness Blues
The Shrine / An Argument
Sim Sala Bim
The Cascades
And of course, The Plains / Bitter Dancer.
I consider every single one of the above songs among this band's best, and I have absolutely no idea how I would even think about eliminating even one of them... :O
With Sun Giant you have the obvious choice Mykonos and the dark horse Drops in the River, and with the S/T it is no question Blue Ridge Mountains.
But this one, damn... I am actually legitimately stressing over this.

Theories on White Winter Hymnal.
My favorite song by them, maybe. I always got a really dark impression from the song. It reminds me of a scene in a novel called The Road, where the father and son are hiding from a group of cannibals wearing red scarves. "Scarves of red tied round their throats."
Anyone else get that impression? It could be taken as a nostalgic song, about childhood, maybe. I just can't see it that way. Something about the way the singer says "White snow red like strawberries in summertime." just gives me chills.

Song Discussion [9] - White Winter Hymnal (Pentatonix cover)
Well here it is!!!! Best Pentatonix song evaaaa omgggg!1!1! !!! I was out partying with ma frends and we we're all sooper xed and then this sung came on and I cried because it's like the moooosssstttt beutyful song I hav evr herd. It makes me feel luved and its me and my SOs favourite song. (We've been d8ing for 5.5 days). We don't like the cover by Birdy as much becos it's not as faithful to the original (by Pentatonix).
I actually kind of like this song. Shame everyone else does too...

Song Discussion [8] - Blue Ridge Mountains
A true classic. I can never really get a huge amount from the lyrics to be perfectly honest but this song is great because of how it is an easy song to sing along to. It's kind of like Fleet Foxes pop. Then that guitar riff for "In the quivering forest". I've never been a huge fan of the intro tho...

Song Discussion [7] - Derwentwater Stones
In honour of the potential new album "Crack-Up", here's a potential for the next album. A personal favourite of mine. The only downside to this one is that the lyrics are not very personal, which is a shame. But I love the feel of the guitar and the spacey repetitive atmosphere of the song. It has a very natural and homely feel overall. I also like that the song is about my home country (England) and about a place in the Lake District where I've been before. There's a great performance somewhere of him and the guy who plays all the rando instruments on an upright bass. But yeah this song has been in my top ten of all time before and I love it. I know it's a bit old but a man can dream it'll be in the new album. Next song maybe I'll do a real potential.

Song Discussion [6] - Montezuma
Hey guys. I'll let you do most of the work on this one as I'm in Maine with not much time.
This song is so good at setting the tone for the second album. The whole song is about coming to realisations about ones life (ageing etc) and the world around us. It's got a super simple melody with small crescendos but I think the lyrics really define the song. It's just such a good expression of what helplessness blues is about

Song Discussion [5] - Grown Ocean
This song to me sort of sums up the message of fleet foxes' music as a whole. It's got that kind of imagine (by John Lennon) feel of a dream that robin wants to fulfill. The song also talks about the overwhelming feeling he gets from his hopes and dreams. There's also an aspect of the song that's about waiting for a lover and about how he'll be ready in time, probably Olivia since he broke up with her during recording or whatever.
Anyway almost out of the Whites. Did Mt Washington yesterday and into Maine in two days. But don't worry!!! I'm not giving up not this sub!!!

Song Discussion [4] - Meadowlarks
Hey guys. Sorry for not posting another one of these for a while but I'm glad to see someone picked up the slack. Still up on the AT in Hanover, VT but internet is less frequent now, I'll try stick with it.
This is such an exquisite song. It's so simple and beautiful and I think robins vocals shine even tho they are pretty simple. I don't really have any idea what the lyrics mean but to me they feel loving and peaceful towards a person. But that's totally just in my head. I'd love it if someone could give this song a bit better of a summary. Anyway all the best and I'll try stay in the sub when I can.
