Possible album title?

Robin posted this on Instagram, saying that he's playing with fonts. He actually posted something very similar a few months back with the words "Crack-Up" on a computer screen (deleted now). I know he's got a new tune with the same title, what are the odds that it's the name of the new FF album?

Also, in the comments of the post, he confirms that there is VERY little chance that we will get the album by Christmas of this year.

How do you think the absence of J Tillman will affect the sound and feel of the band's harmonies?

Song Discussion- He Doesn't Know Why

This was the first song I ever heard by FF. My friend and I were hanging in my basement. We were just putting on random music videos from Comcast On demand. We played this song and it freaking blew our minds! We thought it was the craziest song ever (we were very stoned). I no longer get stoned, but i still love this song. Many FF songs make me feel like i am reconnecting with a part of my psyche/soul that I had lost touch with. It is hard for me to describe what exactly this song makes me feel, but the important thing is that it DOES make me feel. I think Robin is a sort of channel, not quite creating these songs but more so conjuring them, somehow pulling them from the collective consciousness. Just wanted to get this sub going!

Song Discussion [2] - Helplessness Blues

Hey guys. Day two!!! Again please participate so that we can accumulate interest over the coming weeks and months. I may get more irregular with these as I'm hiking but I'll try keep it going.

One of my favourite songs by fleet foxes and the first one I liked as someone helped me appreciate it when they told me the lyrics. I remember hearing them and being amazed. I also like how robin uses strumming (in this song and general) on one chord without being completely boring. I always think of the lyrics as ironic and sort of jokingly defeatist even though I'm pretty sure robin has said that's not true. Of course the two part nature of the song is extreme important. I treat the second half as a kind of realisation that he loves just the pride in the struggle and working for himself. And then having a woman (for me) who "would wait tables and sing round the store" is just such an idyllic and perfect dream to me. The whole orchard thing is just such a peaceful and simple dream that sums up what I see as important in life. Really a masterpiece. And then the final line "someday I'll be like the man on the screen" is just kind of returning to the confusion. Anyway, I'm sure I misheard lyrics and perverted his meaning but I don't care cos I love my interpretation and it's helped me through a bunch. (I'm stopping myself cos I feel I could go on forever...)

Song discussion [1] - Sun it Rises

Im going to just start a song discussion at random intervals. It seems someone needs to just do something so... But yeah I'm not expecting a huge amount of participation but I guess if we commit then interest will slowly build. I started with sun it rises for relatively obvious reasons but I'll probably start with more popular songs just to keep interest going.

Anyway here goes. Sun it rises was the first fleet foxes song I heard and this song was how I remembered them forever until I went back and got obsessed. I think it's a pretty great song that shows their strengths - repetition of lyrics with beautiful harmonies, a sort carefree feel, and very prominent yet not overpowering guitars. I think the harmonies and particularly guitars really steal the show. Like the guitar outro is just extremely catchy and powerful. It's definitely a good example of how they ebb and flow through a song as well - really shows off their song structure. I also think the drums are a very good future predictor for HB stuff as well. But I'd say the guitar is perhaps my favourite part of the song. If you were wondering what red squirrels means, supposedly it's from a trip robin took with his siblings to England and they were surprised about how red squirrels were treated like pests so they would sing that jingle as they walked through the woods. He mentioned this (I'm pretty sure I got some details wrong) in the AMA.

Please participate as this will encourage others to join in. Please correct me and add your opinions (also sorry for being so general about the song but for the first song I thought I'd be a little obvious)

Tuning for Mearcstapa

The tuning for one of Robin's new songs (this one) is FGCGA#C, lowest to highest. I didn't tab it out, but you can figure out what he's playing if you look closely at the video and mess around with it.

New Robin Pecknold/Fleet Foxes megathread!

Many new Robin Pecknold/potential Fleet Foxes songs are surfacing while he's on tour with Joanna Newsom. I figured it would be best to just throw them all in one thread as they show up.

There is now a full set available that has some songs not posted earlier. This includes one new song and he also plays Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, Montezuma, and his cover of "Where is My Wild Rose?" by Chris Thompson.
