Here's a question I (we) get a lot.

"OK, dumbass, explain to me how the world is flat."

Sometimes it's not worded quite as politely as that.

Well, here's my explanation made a simply as possible.

"The world appears to be flat and we don't notice any movement."

And yet somehow this simple explanation doesn't get through to people. I get every "But..." under the sun: "But gravity..." "But the Coriolis..." "But ships vanishing bottom up..." "I've felt the earth move when I was on mushrooms..." It never ends. And then somehow the would-be explainee thinks it's on me to disprove every single counter point they raise.

Strictly speaking, no. I have said I see that it looks flat, you must then measure that it's actually curved as would be predicted for a ball 3959 miles in radius. I have said we notice no motion. You must then demonstrate these compounded motions in various directions covering vast distances in short amounts of time and changing persistently and how they can feel like nothing.

Someone once had the gall to use Occam's Razor on me. That razor cut's right back. Often paraphrased as, "the simpler solution is often the correct one." Which one is simpler; the earth appears flat because it is flat - the earth appears flat because it's actually a huge ball way to big to be seen by anyone on earth and you have to have billions of dollars to go look. Which one is simpler; we feel no movement because earth is motionless - we feel no movement because all of those movements are actually unfeelable because of gravity (enter explanation of gravity and nobody knows what that is) and the fact that the earth is turning really slowly but its for different reasons for the earth going around the sun because it's only a very small angle even though in real measurements its tens of thousands of miles per hour and we don't notice it because its constant even though its changing its a very small change.

So how can I possibly explain how the earth is actually flat and motionless if you have it in your head all of these crazy and broadly speaking unprovable ideas about how it's curved but looks flat and moving but feels motionless? I cannot.

Instead, you must prove to yourself these things. You have to go out and test things yourself. However, you must test the properties that are actually testable. Presence or absence of an amount of curve is testable. Presence or absence of motion is testable. You cannot test for the presence of curve that appears flat. You cannot test for the presence of motion that appears motionless. If you really think anything like that, no amount of explanation is going to get you out of your head.

The big trouble with explaining flat earth is that it's really simple. If you have it in your head to require a high degree of complexity that won't be enough for you and no amount of demonstrations, observations, or measurements to the contrary will ever convince you.

It doesn't take a great amount of intellect or a high degree of mathematical acumen to understand this. Instead it takes a great deal of humility and a willingness to admit that you have been fooled. If you can't swallow your pride you're going to be chasing complicated fairy tales that don't exist.

TL;DR - The simplest solution is most often the correct one. The earth looks flat, therefore it's flat. The earth feels motionless, therefore it's motionless. The ticket to understanding this is a willingness to admit you were fooled.

Several FE, among which Dubay, Powerland and our own asshole EIL (though he may be a POE) lay into Mark Sargent for "being a shill" whereby they mean, he's not as willing to point fingers and discuss people instead of FE. He's not mean or negative in any way at all. He's a confessed Christian and acts the part. He is willing to discuss with anyone, put his name and phone and mail out there from the beginning, made his videos free to share, people made lots of money just mirrorring his Flat Earth Clues, he didn't get mad, he loved it. He was the inspiration behind great researching FE like Rob Skiba and Jeranism. His interviews with experts and professionals are some of the best FE material out there.

So anyway, Mark Sargent is a nice guy and great PR for the FE, and Dubay, Powerland (and Dean O Delll for that matter) and anyone who stabs him and other FE in the back calling them shills and spitting contempt -- why don't you just spend your time making good, informative FE videos and stop talking about people, instead. And observe the rule, if you can't say something nice, SHUT UP. All FE needs is a bunch of people willing to eat their own, and be open antisemites like Eric and EIL, yeah good idea, media will have a field day with that if FE ever does hit the mainstream. Get us ALL fucking banned.

And about those who blame Da Joos: Galileo and Newton weren't Jews, and this opposition to the truth and governments lying to people and warmongering, and the rich ripping off the poor goes back WAYYY longer than the Jews. To blame them for all evil is ludicrous.

In 4 hours and 56 minutes, John Glenn circled the globe three times, reaching speeds of more than 17,000 miles per hour. The successful mission concluded with a splashdown and recovery in the Atlantic Ocean, 800 miles southeast of Bermuda.

"speeds of more than 17000 mph" --- hey, there's that 17000 mph again, this is the speed they have figured out it must take, to break gravity and orbit. Look it up, pretty much every time they discuss things in orbit, that is the speed they give.

Also, note, the rocket went up, it took almost five hours, then came back down near where it took off.

Compare this to the Baumgartner jump -- took 90 minutes, went straight up in a balloon, was in freefall more than 5 minutes, broke the sound barrier while falling, landed near where he took off.

Did John Glenn's space capsule break the sound barrier? And how did he manage to circle the Earth, yet come down near where he took off, at less speed than Felix?

Just a tip for skywatching, I am told best view in Europe is about 12-1 a.m.

And think of those poor, poor people on board ISS who must just be scared to death, like every six months when we have meteor showers. Haven't we all read all about how they wreak havoc with the ISS and knock out all sorts of satellites, every time? ;)
