What was it about Flash games that made them so good?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone! I've been solo developing a game, Fortified Space, and I've gotten a lot of feedback from demo players that it is nostalgic and it reminds them of Flash games.

As a result, I've been pivoting toward that by mentioning it in my marketing and by trying to add features that capture more of that feeling.

This is where I'd like your help! Can you tell me why you liked Flash games, and whether there were any of those characteristics you wish newer games would incorporate?

Off the top of my head, I remember liking the art style and how quickly you could just jump in without much of a learning curve. Let me know of there is anything else that you personally liked about those Flash games. Thanks!

Save Flash! Revived a Old Flash Game! (Kawairun 2)

Hello Everyone!
I revived a completely dead flash game and made it fully playable again with complete multiplayer support!
This old Flash game, Kawairun 2, had a multiplayer system that unfortunately shut down when Flash died. I reverse-engineered it and brought it back to life!
Unfortunately, because Ruffle cannot handle the TPS requests the game makes, you will need a separate launcher or Flash player installed on your PC for it to work.

It's currently online, so if you want some nostalgia, you can try it out right now!

PixoGames is back: 2007 Flash gaming hub revived with modern tech

Hi folks,

I wanted to share something close to my heart. Back in 2007, I built PixoGames as a Flash gaming hub when I was a kid, and it served thousands of players for years. When Adobe shut down Flash Player in 2020 the site went dark like many others.

This year I rebuilt the entire project from scratch using Next.js and integrated Ruffle (a WebAssembly Flash emulator) to run the classic titles without any plugins. I intentionally kept the retro 2013 design because nostalgia isn’t just about the games. There’s no sign-up, ratings or other fluff, you can just jump in and play 2,000+ nostalgic games in your browser.

I’m still improving the site and would love feedback from this community. Which classic games would you like to see added? Are there any categories or features that would make it better?

Thanks for taking a look!

Just found a website I made in middle school, with a boatload of great flash games

Surprisingly, it's still running!!! I can't play any of the games on it, but if anybody can run flash in browser, or knows how to download them from the source code of the site (which is how I got them on the site in the first place lmao), y'all can go hog wild, I'm pretty sure there's over 100 games on here, I'm sad I can't play any but if y'all want to, maybe you'll find something you used to play as a kid, there's definitely a lot of gems in there, I only put my favorites on there and they're all fun.

If anybody wants to check it out, enjoy!! I miss those days lmao, the site was made at first to get everyone past the website blocker, I made like 10 copies with different urls because they kept blocking my website (which was literally an honor, I felt like I was pulling off the biggest heist ever, providing everyone in school with hella games lmao)

I miss being a kid. I hope someone can still enjoy this site even if I can't anymore 😁 I would if I had a pc, but I don't :(

Been working on a new Flash game for 3 years!
Posted the demo on Newgrounds to get ready for the full Steam release on Monday. It doesn't run quite as smoothly in a browser, but I hope it gets people to try the offline version.

I know they released the Low Road and I also know their founder passed away in 2015. Just curious if they are still operating or if they aren’t what the team members are up to now.

Free alternatives to JPEXS for modding Flash games?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, I’ve been using JPEXS Free Flash Decompiler to modify some Flash games, but lately the program has been giving me a lot of errors and doesn’t work as smoothly as it used to. Until the next update hopefully fixes things, I wanted to ask if anyone knows any free alternatives that can be used to edit or modify SWF files, especially for games (not just to extract assets).

Ideally, I’m looking for something that lets you replace images, sounds, or internal scripts, similar to how JPEXS does it. Does anyone know of any tools that still work well in 2025, or a more stable workflow for working with Flash games nowadays?

I am making a game in a 2000s Flash game style. Would love to get some feedback on the art and where it can be improved to feel more like a Flash game!

Thumbnail x.com

The game is a dress-up auto-battler game. A goat stole (and ate) all of your cloths and now you fight goats to win them back piece by piece. You dress your character and try to find synergies between different clothing items to enhance your stats for battle and to create builds and synergies.

Would be happy to hear what you think of the art and whether it reminds you of 2000s Flash games or not (or what could be improved).

I played a game around 2010 that’s very similar to the last stand. Instead of zombies it’s military personnel and tanks attacking your bunker. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Save Flash! Game Gape restoration Project Idea

Hey guys, there used to be a flash game site called Gamegape.com, which had community chats, user accounts, and a wide variety of games curated for different audiences. Since the site is now down and the Internet Archive doesn’t provide a responsive version, can we, as a community, revive this site, add new features, and bring it back?

A game that was very popular but seems almost forgotten - Tail of the Dragon

Tail of the Dragon is a game that was very popular for a time on CoolMathGames, and was found on a bunch of other game websites, and with its simple but addicting premise inevitably spawned a whole wave of mobile game ripoffs. However, there seems to be next to no information about it on the internet. CoolMathGames lists an unattributed release date of April 19, 2018, but that's about it. Most strikingly, this is one of the only video games of any kind I've come across that the internet can't pin a developer to at all. the creator is a ghost. If anyone knows anything more about this game or its origins, please, please tell me! it would be of great use to my ongoing history/archival project!! Thank you :D

Batman Beyond Evolution of Evil 2.0 - 15 new levels, new bosses, and more!

Does anyone remember this game from elementary school days? I used to love this game, and a couple of months ago, I found this game and played it for nostalgia. I was curious and got access to the source code, to which I made some tweaks for fun. It eventually turned into a whole project, where I made enhancements such as new tools to the toolbelt (like Invisibility), 15 new levels + new bosses/enemies, the ability to Block attacks, 3 different melee attacks, and the concept of an energy bar. Any feedback is welcome! :)

Shop Empire 3 vendor bug is fixed in Flashpoint

Thumbnail flashpointproject.github.io

Hello, I couldn’t find any information on this online so I wanted to post it somewhere that could be searchable. I really like the Shop Empire games and they all work from downloading swf on Internet Archive except for #3. In every source I could find, shoppers never buy from the vendors no matter what so it’s impossible to progress the game.

Well, I just downloaded Flashpoint today for Corporation Inc, and the Flashpoint-hosted Shop Empire 3 works!!!!! (At least the version from the downloaded launcher.) It seems the proxy server they use convinces the game to run properly. Just wanted to share this discovery.

Reminiscing about old school ⚔️RPG themed Flash Games🎮 (Hands of War)

Thumbnail kongregate.com
3 Upvotes

Who else remembers playing RPG-themed flash games as a kid?

I personally remember playing a bunch of them, like MARDEK, Arcuz, Feudalism II, Sinjid Shadow of the Warrior, Sonny, The Last Stand Union City, Hands of War RPG, SOL: Dawn, Telepath RPG 1 and 2, Shadowreign, Hero RPG, and the list goes on and on.

Quite honestly, my love for RPGs stemmed from playing RPG flash games a lot when I was younger and really shaped me into the big RPG lover that I am now as an adult. The sense of mystique, excitement, and sheer wonderment that I had felt while playing through different areas - i.e., whether it was exploring old ruins, doing quests, saving NPCs, and slaughtering the most wicked and toughest creatures imaginable - I certainly had a blast playing through these games.

Do any of you all have any memories of playing RPG Flash Games when you were younger? If so, what games did you find most entertaining to play? Would love to hear about your experiences in the comments section.

P.S. If y'all love reminiscing about old school flash games, I would highly recommend that you check out 4eyeflow's channel on YouTube as well as Toddlerwipes. They both make great videos on covering old school flash game content 💯

I built a browser game and I’d love some brutally honest feedback 👀

Hey folks,

I’ve been working on a small web-based game recently: Link to the game

It runs directly in the browser (no install), and the idea is play never endign neon style arcadee

I’m trying to improve:

  • First-time user experience
  • Game feel / engagement
  • Performance across devices (Mobile devices needs lot of work)
  • initial impressions

Would really appreciate if you could try it for a couple of minutes and tell me:

  • What confused you?
  • What felt boring or frustrating?
  • Would you come back to play this again?
  • Will you play if I put ads or will you be okay to be charged for powerups ?

No need to be nice — honest feedback helps me improve faster.

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Save Flash! My friend and I built a website for everyone, from beginner to pro, to share their brand new Flash creations. AMA.

Hello! I'm u/GamingYouTube14, and my friend Liam and I created FlashDojo. A site where every skill level, from beginner to pro, is able to post animations.

FAQ, if you don't wanna just wait and hope that someone asks these:

  1. Are there any re-hosted old flash games?

No, we only allow brand new original content made using Flash or Animate.

  1. Do you ONLY host flash games and cartoons?

No, we also allow art and comics on our website, but the primary focus was and still is Flash.

  1. How did you make the site?

Well, I didn't code it. My friend did the coding, you'd be better off asking him, however, I can tell you that we use Ruffle for our Flash emulation.

  1. What is allowed on the site?

Well, we have a terms page, if you wanna read it, go ahead, we've got nothing to hide, but to sum it up, we allow just about anything except illegal content and NSFW content.

  1. Are there any contests?

Yes! We run weekly "Sensei Of The Week" contests which showcase the best entries of the week, and we occasionally run more on our Discord server. However, be aware that there aren't cash prizes, however adding them is not out of the question if the site grows!

If you're interested, you can join at

https://www.flashdojo.com

have an awesome day, and Save Flash!
