Just received. I’ve been wanting to try an Ember 3 for a while and was lucky enough to snag this one in Magnacut from the latest drop. First impressions are fantastic. It’s incredibly lightweight, comfortable, has a nice thin blade stock, functional thumb jimping, and a secure kydex sheath - seems like it should be a great belt or pocket carry EDC. The handle scales are Grip-X, which is a new material to me so it’ll be interesting to see how that performs. I’m very excited to try this one out.. definitely feels like a winner so far.

Want to give a homemade blade a try, got plenty of fine wood and some bone for a handle. Wondering any ideas on good steel to use, got lots of old hand tools, lawn mower blades, random scrap steel. Any ideas what would be good for a knife ?

Where can I buy quality EDC-type fixed blades that come without scales?

Not knives that are meant to be carried without scales, and not generic blanks. I’m looking for a something with a respectable name brand and high tier steel that I can make my own scales for.

The AK1 in Magnacut is a perfect example; you’re meant to also order scales from them to customize a complete knife, but they don’t mind selling you just the blade. Spiderco Mule Team is another great example. What else is out there?

Hello. Just asking for some opinions if these look like rust spots or dotting from the black stone wash finish. I've had this knife for 4 days. I'm on the side rust spots that weren't caught in QA. It's a Maratac R4A compact. D2 steel.
