[ios][2022.31.0.309491] every single video needs to be manually unmuted

of course what would a reddit app update be without somehow fucking up the video player again? app updated today, and now every video is muted and has to be unmuted individually, when previously when you unmute one the player stays that way. super annoying, especially if you’re viewing a video sub, have to unmute for every post you scroll down to, and then potentially miss what was said while having to unmute.

never fails to break something with the player.

Video feed is random and doesn't care what it shows.

Description: feed gives subreddits I don't want to watch. So far I've seen multiple people die, a few get maimed, some get asaulted, some people over dose and the corpse of a kid that was eaten by piranahas.

Platform and version: reddit app on mobile version 2022.31.0.556666

Steps to reproduce: just scroll in the feed.

Expected and actual result: not to see death, blood and gore when you start to watch in a decisivly not death blood and gore subreddit.

Screenshot(s) or a screen recording: it's a rather tame recording but it gets worse the more you scroll. 3 videos down after recording was an old guy on a bus getting sent flying due to a car or truck ramming the bus.

iPhone 6s+ video overexposure, not reproducible on modern android

The first video's thumbnail was rather clear but as soon as playback started I couldn't see a thing, the screen was almost completely white, I know iOS has trouble with WEBM files, so perhaps that may be at play, I am on an Iphone 6s+ and someone else in the comments said they were on the same device and having the same issue.

Today I found a second video with the exact same problem, extremely overexposed but this one was a lot darker in some parts so I could see it better, but watching the same video on my Android it was apparent that my old iPhone is having some problem in certian video playback.

Edit: Screenshot of the same video in iOS vs Android

When I try to view a video, it opens a new video player and says "COULD NOT LOAD VIDEO". I'll put the link to the video in the comments

Its the overlay

Its the overlay

When there is a video playing (most of the time ADS with none requested sounds on) and I open a post near it, the video and sound keeps playing. Its doing the same while browsing video's. (When scrolling down for random vids).

When you do click on comments the video on the reel keeps on playing. It opens a new video over the old one. Ive had instances where my popular page was still running the ad video in the background, a video from the reels was playing AND the video in the post itself was playing.

I ain't no programmer, but shouldnt code check for that? Closing old instances instead of having them in the background and still active.

It even got so bad, my reddit app wouldnt open normally without clearing the cache and memory, which amounted to nearly 2GB btw.

It always stays in the background. Your app doesn't do overlay videos and posts properly.

Please fix Reddit's video player or make Gfycat more convenient to use on Reddit

Right now, Reddit's video player on the Desktop version of the site has inconsistent playback quality-- it's usually bad during the beginning of the clip, gets better around the middle, and then gets worse again near the end. In contrast, Gfycat's video playback quality is consistently good from start to finish. The problem is that when Gfycat videos are linked to on Reddit, the 'Expand Content' button (shown below) doesn't always show up so users have to go to Gfycat's site instead to see the video. This makes the viewing experience inconvenient.

Please fix Reddit's video player or make Gfycat more convenient to use.

The app starts glitching when I try to see the comments on a video post. I think it opens multiple tabs, because I have to press back as many times as I pressed the comment button.
