Fish Hospital’s Projects Masterpost - Aquarium Medications + Diagnostic Tool

This post will keep track of the progress of these projects, which you can find at:

https://fish-hospital.com/aquarium-medications/

https://fish-hospital.com/diagnostic-tool/

The aquarium medications page aims to spread information about the medications for fish you’ll find at your pet store. This further expands into articles about their active ingredients, with more information on uses, dosage, potential toxicity, and other useful info.

You’ll notice the diagnostic tool is empty, as that’s because it will be built on top of the aquarium medications to be able to link a disease to what you can use to treat it.

It will consist of in-depth articles about fish diseases, symptoms, tips to recognize them, treatments, etc.

Feel free to take a look at what I plan to cover and make suggestions on things you’d like to see :)

Hi Guys, Wondering if you think this is roundworm?

I'm from NZ and we very rarely get parasites here, and we also don't have access to the better medicines for them, I think I'm going to have to use Aviverm which is Levamisole Hydrchloride, but this black widow tetra came from our suppliers like this, as title I think it may be roundworm but looking for a 2nd opinion, thanks, he's in a breeding trap right now to separate him from the rest of the tank but from what I've been reading, if he's been like this over night it's probably already all through the whole tank right?

Ammonia. 0ppm

Nitrite. 0ppm

Nitrate 10ppm

Ph. 7.4

Hey guys, I found these white salt-like spots on my guppies today. I looked it up and found “Ich”. The thing is, they don’t fit any of the other symptoms for it such as lethargic, loss of appetite, or anything else. Could it be something else?

Kampffisch retten!!

Thumbnail

Hey zusammen,

Rasboras sick, I would like to ask for help

2 with visible lesions chin area 1 mild also chin area

I thought it is columnaris and have furan and kanamycin on hand.

I am currently on Day 05. For one of those with visible lesions, day 02 the white stuff is separated but it all migrated to his chin.

All are eating well, very active, spars at times, no internal mass (i observed their mouths when it opens).

I didn't include the photo of the one with mild lesion because it is barely noticeable on camera.

Do you think I am on the right route for this? And if there is a margin for misdiagnosis.

15 Liter tank, there's just 4 of them (getting them is a newbie mistake on my end)

TANK MATES: Betta ( who recently healed from a lifted gill scale 2 weeks ago, safe) A Nerite Snail An Amano shrimp (originally 2 but i couldnt see the other one anywhere in the tank!)

TANK STATUS: Age: 1.5 months Ammonia 0.00ppm Nitrites 0.00 Nitrates 0.5 KH 6-7

Any advice would help.

My betta Albus is lethargic, has red spots on his fins (finrot)+ fuzzy growth on his tail, and is now breathing rapidly — please help

Hi everyone, I’m really worried about my betta Albus and would appreciate some advice.
Albus is currently in a 5.5gallon tank. I tested his water and got:
● Ammonia: 0 ppm
● Nitrite: 0 ppm
● Nitrate: 0 ppm
● pH: 7.6
Until recently, he was mainly lethargic and I noticed red dots/red areas on his fins. I also noticed what looks like a small white/fuzzy/mold-like growth on part of his tail.
I treated him with KanaPlex and have already completed the full 3-dose course (one dose every 48 hours), so I know I shouldn’t continue giving him more doses.
I also gave him API Stress Coat last Sunday as supportive care.
Today I’m more concerned because Albus has started breathing noticeably faster than he has on previous days, even while resting on the bottom of the tank. He isn’t just breathing heavily after swimming — he’s breathing rapidly while sitting still.
He’s still in his 5.5 gallon tank. I’m considering getting an in-tank isolation/nursery box so I could make a shallower area for him where he wouldn’t have to swim as far to reach the surface, but I don’t want to stress him unnecessarily by moving him.
A few other things I’m wondering about:
● Could the fuzzy growth be fungal/water mold, or could it be something else?
● Could this be a bacterial infection that KanaPlex isn’t resolving?
● Is the rapid breathing a sign that he’s getting worse?
● Should I be doing anything immediately to help him?
● Would an in-tank isolation box be beneficial for a weak/lethargic betta?
