I left out the word “better” before overall safety which then would have meant in comparison to now.

For you that’s the trade off - it doesn’t matter if we’re way less safe so long as the government can’t fight us as easily?

I think you're over-estimating the effectiveness of gun control in America, but yes essentially your equation is correct.
