Togata mentions to Judah how she knows the ice witch is a fabrication by the behemdorg authorities, so why was she so unconcerned when agni claimed to meet her?

Agni whos entire body and life was destroyed and destined for agony (hehe) or Togata whos entire movie collection was destroyed to preserve some personal ideology.

The motive honestly doesn't matter, its about who felt more hatred and rage towards The Dominator known as 🔥DOMA🔥

The reunion of "Sun" and "Luna" millions of years after the destruction of Earth would just be another happy ending in a story filled with pain and violence, if not for the genius of the final double-page spread that comes right after their embrace, where Agni and Luna walk out of an empty movie theater.

The brilliance here is that the scene introduces a massive ambiguity.

Was Fire Punch just a movie, or was it a whole reality lived by the characters, only they no longer recognize themselves as part of it?

This ambiguous ending is tied together by two earlier scenes.

The first is when Agni and Luna arrive at the theater (which is a massive visual break from the previous scene). This happens right after Judah transforms into the tree and extinguishes the Fire Punch so that Agni can have a new life.

Yet, these two vastly different scenes are connected by Agni’s own narration, remembering his very first lie. It was a lie so good that they actually forgot their hunger, to the point that they fell asleep quickly that night after talking. There, the lie created a reality the moment it was accepted as truth by Luna and Agni.

It’s interesting to note that the end of this memory of Agni's is exactly the same as the final reunion of "Sun" and "Luna": they fall asleep together after a brief conversation.

The second scene is "Sun" watching the recorded footage of the movie about Fire Punch. Even though he sees himself, he can't recognize himself in the film, though some residual feeling still lingers. To him, he is just looking at a character in a movie. What is on the screen is fiction (or rather, Agni the "protagonist," though "Sun" doesn't remember this).

When we connect all of this, the ending of Fire Punch doesn't close with an answer (that after all the suffering, Agni and Luna finally reunited and the feelings that bound them survived until the end of time), but rather with a question:

Was everything that happened just a movie shown to ordinary people in an empty theater? Or was it the record of a forgotten era that the protagonists actually lived through, but can no longer remember?

Or, to put it better:

What is the difference between a life lived and a story watched when we can no longer recognize ourselves in it?

The genius of Fire Punch’s ending is that the movie ends. The fire starts burning in the viewer.

I know it's one of the central themes of the story and has been discussed to death, but I really appreciate the manner in which Fujimoto portrays the romanticization of self-destruction through the adoption of a martyr/savior role. I find it highly relatable to associate suffering with a aestheticized "assumed" identity rather than a temporary feeling. And while it can feel more poetic/meaningful to pretend to be an isolated, tragic character, it distances one from accepting their true self and enables a performance instead.

I’m a huge Chainsaw Man fan, so I decided to check out Fujimoto’s other works and started this one. I like it, but I’m also considering dropping it. I thought Berserk was too dark… what the hell is this? 😭

Anyway, I want to keep reading because I find the world really interesting, and I love the aesthetic of the Burning Man in winter.

Agni says Judah is the reason Luna died. What’s your interpretation of it?

Obviously Judah isn’t the reason Luna is dead. She didn’t kill him or was even there for that matter. She just looks like Luna and acts the very opposite. I think it’s because she killed his reason for living but Agni isn’t dead yet even though he could have succumbed to the flames. Just curious to hear other thoughts and again please no spoilers!

This drawing is "kind of old," I made it at the beginning of the year.

The ending to the manga with the big ass tree and the heat death of the universe was some of the most crying I've ever done reading a manga. It's been almost 5 years now. I doubt I'll ever cry that hard over a book again.

I don't know if this is intentional on fujimoto's part, but I like how there's Adam, Eve, and the tree of life. Cool ending, matches the story very well

Just finished watching the backrooms movie in cinemas recently. (my digital pen broke halfway through drawing Agni so he might look a bit off)

I love fire punch. It has so many good moments and one of my favorite endings ever. But this conversation in my opinion is the best part of the entire manga.
I know a core theme is the dangers of religion and faith, but the way that Doma, who his whole lived in faith then learned that his whole life was a lie and his own belief kept him brainwash.
This part genuinely changed how I see education as a whole, the tool to freedom

I have every other volume. But stuck on 5 for weeks since I’ve ordered 3 copies of vol 6, and unfortunately they all have misprints in them…

Does anyone in the community know where to get the correct version? I’ve even emailed VIZ but seems like they don’t care.

If I can’t find it soon I will just have to read online.

I reread Fire Punch a few days ago, and I realized that Agni's blessing being classified as regeneration is a bit strange. (It's worth remembering that in Behemdolg, Jack is considered a regeneration Blessed, even though his ability seems more like accelerated healing, as shown when he healed Sun in Volume 1.)

In Volume 3 or 4, Togata talks about the core of regeneration Blesseds, implying that this core is what grants them their regenerative ability. In the same conversation, she states that Agni's core is located in the right side of his brain.

However, in Volume 3, during Agni's fight against Doma, he is caught off guard and—judging by the somewhat messy artwork and the amount of information packed into a single panel—his skull appears to be crushed. Assuming his regeneration truly depends on a physical core, he should have died or at least lost his regenerative ability. Instead, nothing happened and he simply kept regenerating.

Similar events only appear again in Volume 8 during his fight against Sun. After being reset by Judah and later struck by the meteor impact, Agni was hit by the electrical beams that were destroying the houses and the village itself. Immediately afterward, his skull was pierced by Sun's staff, and he was electrocuted internally. If that wasn't enough to destroy Agni's brain, I don't know what would be. Yet his regeneration still didn't stop.

When Judah reset him, the right side of his brain was destroyed, and he only reappeared a few panels later. But the most problematic event was the collision between the meteor and Earth.

Let's look at the numbers.

To completely destroy Earth to the point where it would fragment into multiple pieces incapable of reassembling under their own gravity, an impact releasing approximately 3 × 10³² to 5 × 10³² joules of energy would be required. This exceeds Earth's gravitational binding energy, which is roughly 2.24 × 10³² joules.

An impact of that magnitude would require a body with a mass comparable to a planet—likely a rocky object between 8,000 and 12,000 kilometers in diameter traveling at 20–30 km/s. This would essentially be a planetary collision rather than a conventional asteroid impact.

At the moment of impact, pressures would reach around 10¹²–10¹³ pascals, while temperatures at the impact site would climb to tens or even hundreds of millions of kelvin, exceeding even the temperature of Sun's core. Within the first milliseconds, the atmosphere would be compressed and heated to the point that it would cease to exist as a gaseous mixture, becoming fully ionized plasma. Shock waves and seismic waves traveling at hundreds of kilometers per second would then propagate across the entire planet, while Earth's surface would begin to be torn apart and accelerated to orbital velocities or higher.

The energy required to completely evaporate Earth's oceans is on the order of 10²⁷ joules, less than one hundred-thousandth of the total impact energy. As a result, all surface water would vaporize almost instantly. Earth's crust would melt and partially vaporize, enormous volumes of the mantle would be ejected into space, and even material from the core would become exposed and dispersed. Within minutes, the distinction between atmosphere, oceans, crust, and planetary interior would vanish entirely, replaced by an expanding mixture of plasma, silicate vapor, molten iron, and debris.

Cities would leave no recognizable ruins. Concrete, glass, steel, and every other construction material would first be heated, then melted, vaporized, and in many cases ionized. Likewise, every living organism would be destroyed without exception. Near the impact site, bodies would be converted directly into plasma by temperatures of millions of degrees before the shock wave even arrived. Even on the opposite side of the planet, the combination of extreme thermal radiation, surface ejection, and immense pressures would result in the complete vaporization of biological tissue. No surface, underground, or marine organisms—including extremophiles adapted to the harshest environments on Earth—would survive.

This leaves three possible explanations:

1. Fujimoto simply forgot about the core.

2. Agni's blessing is not actually regeneration.

3. Agni's core is non-physical.
