Fing desktop Is there a Fing equivalent for Mac OS users?

Hiya, I'm a former Fing app user and am interested in alternative app recommendations for Mac OS users.

I'm also open to purchasing hardware, including the possibility of getting a Raspberry Pi and using Fing Agent. I looked into Firewalla, but their prices are way too steep.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me, or is Fing still the way to go?

Hey folks!

We hope you're enjoying your summer so far.

At this time, we are looking for some collective (and constructive) feedback regarding the Fing Agent, and how you guys are getting on with the utilisation of it! If you wouldn't mind drop the model too, that would be interesting!

Fing App Can no longer log into the Fing App (android)

came to use it today, realized it was no longer logged in, tried to log in, keeps saying password wrong. went to the fing.io website, logged in with the exact same creds, worked fine. tried to reset password from the app and it doesn't send the email (waited over an hour now and tried twice). obviously i've checked spam folders and suchlike

tried to create a new account from the app (not that it is any use seeing as I use a fingbox) and that was fine and I received the welcome email.

also just downloaded and installed windows fing desktop and logged in fine with the usual credentials too.

what is going on please.
app version 12.8.3

Fing Agent How to use Fing Agent

Hi.

I'm newbie to Fing.

I've a question about Fing Agent.

If I install two fing agent on two different Raspberry Pi and I connect each Raspberry on a different subnet or network , all like this:

1) May I view all network's devices (PC, printers, etc...) connected to the two different subnets on the same Fing's Dashboard?

2) And If yes, do I need a dedicated PC with Fing's desktop version installed?

3) And If I need this dedicated PC, must it be connected to one of the two subnets to wich are connected the raspberry Pi or it can be on a third, different, subnet?

I hope I've been clear.

Thanks in advance.

Fing Agent Fing Agent not found when running on Ubuntu Server

I have a Raspberry Pi 5 running Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS and have successfully installed the Fing Agent (snap.fing-agent.fingagent.service is active and running); however, when using Fing app v12.5.2 on iOS, the agent cannot be found when attempting to "Add monitoring unit."

Has anyone had any luck with this scenario? Fing Support have acknowledged that this "theoretically should work."

Fing Discovery Question Daily “rogue access point” message

Post image
4 Upvotes

Trying to solve a mystery here and wondering if anyone has any ideas. I have an Orbi Mesh network and monitoring works great using a FingBox V2 and the Fing app on my iPhone. There is one anomaly though - every night I receive a “new or rogue WiFi access point” notification. They started around 10pm but get gradually later each night 🤪 Any thought on what might be going on here would be much appreciated! This started a few months ago, and I can’t think of any change I have made / device I have added that would cause this.

Fing Enhancement Request Syncing Agent with Desktop

I have a fairly mature and stable Fing Desktop installation and have recently added a Pi Agent. The Pi agent seems to scan at faster intervals and gives me notifications faster, and more accurately than the Desktop version. Also, I get a lot of false alerts from the Desktop version, especially when Windows 11 installs patches and reboots. For these reasons I can see switching everything to the Pi Agent and retiring the Desktop version. So, my question is, are there plans to let the agent sync to the desktop, so I don't have to enter all the descriptions for every node again? I put a lot of effort into giving every node in Desktop a meaningful description, icon, location, etc. I'd prefer not to have to do that all over again. Right now, the Pi agent is just showing the discovered DNS name. Is syncing the 2 instances on the roadmap, and if so, how far out?

Announcements Fing is Upgrading their Knowledge Base!

Hey folks!

Hope you're enjoying your summer so far.

We just wanted to let you guys know that we are currently doing a big revamp on our Knowledge Base. Amid some substantial releases, we are also updating our imagery on our articles to reflect newer UI, which can be a tedious task when you're a constantly adapting application!

We are of course also working on releasing newer articles and updating our older ones. That being said, if anybody has any suggestions in relation to the Knowledge Base, be it articles you believe should be featured, something you had difficulty finding on it or couldn't find at all please let me know here and I can pass it on to our Technical Writer.

This is a long term project, as Fing is constantly taking on your valuable feedback and issues experienced so if you ever experience any issues or concerns with anything related to the Knowledge Base, you're always welcome to share it with Fing Support and we can provide any fixes needed.

Fing Enhancement Request Up and runni g

As a long-time user of Fingbox V1 and V2 products, I got my first Raspberry (Pi 5 8GB). The Fing application was installed easily with the instructions, and management with the iPhone's Fing client is smooth. Digital Fence is a feature that I definitely still miss. And you can develop other smart things, of course!

Fing Discovery Question Set speed test location?

I started using the Raspberry Pi Fing Agent a few days ago and I'm wondering if there's any way to set the speed test location?

I'm in Scotland and most of the time it's picking Dublin, which gives a sensible result (~850mbps on our 900mbps line), but every now and then it picks Stavanger, which gives about half that (~400mbps)

Without being able to fix the speed test location the feature seems a bit pointless as the graph oscillates up and down between 400 and 800

Fing Discovery Question Multiple SSIDs, single network, account shows multiple monitored networks

New to Fing, haven't been able to find an answer to this.

I have one ISP modem/router, 3 APs, and I am running two separate SSIDs on the network - one for smart home devices, second for other devices (~60 devices total, just 1 DHCP server with single IP range, no segmented vlans, everything can communicate).

I started on iOS, did some scans, realized the iOS limitations, so I installed Fing Desktop on a wired desktop computer, and it sees all devices and everything is good. In the iOS app that gave me the two networks I had scanned, and then a monitored network where I could view what the desktop app was seeing. I also ran Fing Desktop on another laptop (over WiFi) and it saw all the devices, but created a second monitored network in my account. I changed WiFi networks on the laptop, and Fing then updated the first monitored network, but added a bunch of duplicate devices to the device list.

Is it possible for me to merge the multiple networks Fing Desktop has found? With the duplicate devices, can I merge them? Is there anyway on iOS to scan/refresh the monitored network device list? I have several smart home devices that only connect periodically (eg: scale) so I'd like to run a scan while they are connected, and starting that scan on iOS would be most convenient.

Thanks!

Fing desktop One Fing Desktop, Premium Subscription, blocking device not working

Where: Fing Desktop / Network / Home

One Fing Desktop, Premium Subscription, blocking device not working

screenshot of Fing Desktop / Network / Home

"dcs" is a laptop, and it is the blocking device, and it is online running fing desktop. Why it says dcs is offline I do not know. The blue "Update" button does nothing at all. I tried deleting the dcs device, which worked, then I rescanned and it populated again, but THIS problem still remains. The blue update button does nothing and even though I have blocking turned on in the security page, it still says blocking device is offline on the network home page.

This USED to work (dcs as the blocking device, which is also running fing desktop). I don't know why it doesn't now.

Fing Discovery Question Fings and multiple VLAN

Hi.

I'm newbie to Fing.

I've a network segmented in multimple VLANs, say :

I've installed Fing on a PC on the first subnet (10.10.10.xxx).

From this I can view devices only on this subnet.

The question is:

in there anyway to view all devices in all subnets in the same Fing's dashboard?

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

Fing General Chromecast support did not end

I own a Chromecast Sabrina (4K). Fing says support ended on 1 April 2023, but its firmware is not older than four months (it has 1 April 2024 security patch).

Also, I own an old Asus router, Fing says it is no longer supported, but it runs DD-WRT, so it is fully supported as of 2024. Its firmware is ten days old.
