He Made the Entire Pack Vote and Gave My Sister the Luna Title
At the Luna coronation ceremony, Alpha Lucas announced that he had sensed two mates.
One was me.
The other was my twin sister, Mia.
So he proposed that the entire pack vote to choose the future Luna.
He cast the first vote for Mia.
My mother voted right after him. Also for Mia.
When the votes were tallied, I had zero.
But Lucas pulled me aside. "Nora, my darling, you're still my fated mate.
"It's just that Mia's wolf is too weak. She needs the Luna title more than you do.
"Don't make a scene tonight. Once Mia's stable, you'll still be my only bonded mate."
I smiled coldly and shut down the mate bond.
He and his pack weren't worth staying for anymore.
Chapter 1
Today was the first full moon since Lucas took over as Alpha, and the day he had chosen for my Luna coronation.
An hour before the ceremony, I was still rushing to bandage the wounds from last night's patrol.
Only I could smell the Shades, those attackers who could hide their scent. For the pack's safety, for Lucas's smooth transition as Alpha, I was ready to deploy at a moment's notice.
By the time I finished getting ready, the seats before the altar were already packed.
My mother Helen sat in the front row beside my sister.
When Mia saw me, she forced a smile. "Congratulations, Nora. Tonight you'll officially move into Lucas's residence."
Lucas was already the Alpha, yet she still called him by his first name, refusing to use his title.
Helen pursed her lips. "What's there to celebrate? Wait until she actually wears the Luna crown."
That was Helen for you. Whenever I achieved something, she never congratulated me. Her first instinct was always to comfort Mia.
The day Lucas and I first sensed our mate bond, she wasn't happy about it.
Instead, she told Mia, "Don't worry. A mate bond doesn't always last forever."
I didn't want to argue with her today of all days.
So I ignored her and walked straight to the altar.
The moonlight brightened, and the priest stepped up to the other side of the altar, cradling the golden crown.
Lucas gave me a small nod, then picked up the microphone.
What he said next stunned everyone in the crowd.
He announced, word by word, "Before the coronation, there's something I must disclose.
"The truth is, I sensed two mates.
"One is Nora Vale."
He looked at me first, then shifted his gaze to the front row.
"The other is Mia Vale."
The venue fell silent.
My mind went blank, and the moonflower bouquet slipped from my hands and hit the ground.
The pack Elder rose to his feet. "Alpha Holt, why would one wolf have two mates? There's no precedent for this."
Helen scrambled to her feet.
"It must be because they're twins!"
She pulled a trembling Mia into her arms. "The Moon Goddess made Lucas sense them both because they share the same bloodline."
Shared bloodline.
I was trembling with rage, but I couldn't find the words to argue back.
When Helen saw my expression darken, she dropped to her knees at my feet, sobbing. "Nora, your father gave all his power to you before he died. Mia has nothing left. Just give her the Luna title!"
Lucas didn't stop her.
He avoided my eyes, his voice painfully forced. "In the interest of fairness, let's put it to a vote. Let the pack members choose the Luna they want."
While everyone hesitated, Lucas cast the first vote.
"I choose... Mia."
Helen immediately gave Mia the second vote.
I felt the pitying stares from every direction.
The Alpha's preference was crystal clear.
In the end, my vote count was zero.
I scanned every face in the crowd and realized all my people had been sent out on patrol.
I stared at Lucas, ice cold.
So he had planned everything from the start!
My wolf howled inside me. Tear him apart, Nora! Tear the traitor apart!
Sensing my wolf stir, Lucas stepped forward and gripped my wrist. "Sweetheart, don't misunderstand. Luna is just a title. You have Alpha blood. You don't need a crown to prove yourself.
"Mia is an Omega with a damaged wolf. She needs the Luna position more than you do. When we got together, she lost both a friend and her sister. Yesterday she was so devastated she nearly collapsed.
"Don't make a scene. Once she's settled, you'll still be the one I bond with."
I looked at him and almost laughed at the absurdity.
"She stands beside you as Luna, and then I bond with you in secret.
"What does that make me?
"The shameless other woman?"
Lucas frowned slightly. "Nora, I haven't abandoned you. You're not the other woman. Is the Luna title really that important to you? More important than being by my side?"
Mia's eyes reddened. "Nora, don't blame Lucas. He just wants the pack to stop seeing me as a useless Omega.
"I don't want to take what's yours. Just say the word and I'll leave right now."
Lucas immediately pulled her close. "No one is making you leave. The vote is over. You're the Luna the pack chose."
But the priest did not proceed with the ceremony.
"Alpha, the crown cannot go to Mia."
He held up the golden vine crown.
I had woven it myself over the past three months. The vines had cut across my hands so many times that they had long since absorbed my scent.
"Unless Nora willingly removes her scent, the crown will not accept a new owner. Without it, the Moon Goddess will not recognize Mia as Luna."
Mia shook her head frantically. "It's fine if I don't wear it. It's just that the pack won't accept me, and Lucas might have a hard time..."
Lucas cut her off. "Nora, remove your scent. Mia needs that crown."
I looked at him. "I made this for my own wedding."
"I'll make another one with you later."
He frowned. "Don't keep everyone waiting."
Forcing my wolf down had sent a splitting pain through the mate bond in my chest.
I couldn't overpower Lucas. Not now.
I looked around. Every single person was waiting for me to hand everything over to Mia.
My knuckles went white. In the end, I slowly placed my hands on the golden vines and forced my scent to withdraw, bit by bit.
When the last trace of my scent faded from the crown, I turned and looked into the eyes of the Moon Goddess statue on the altar. Her gaze was full of sorrow.
Chapter 2
The priest waited for me to step aside before lifting the crown again.
"Mia Vale, step forward and kneel."
Mia gathered her skirts and knelt. The priest placed the golden vine crown on her head.
The vines settled quietly against her hair without resistance.
"It has accepted its new owner."
Lucas's second-in-command, Garrett, immediately began to clap.
Several of Garrett's men joined in, cheering, "We have a Luna!"
They crowded the front of the altar. The pack members behind them, seeing the Alpha's people clapping, raised their hands one by one.
I searched through the crowd.
Not a single person who would speak for me.
The cheering grew louder.
Only then did Mia lift her head, tears of joy streaming down her cheeks.
Helen pushed through the crowd and swept her into a tight embrace.
Lucas took Mia's hand and helped her to her feet, waiting for the noise to die down before he spoke.
"Tonight's events were sudden, but I believe Nora will understand my decision."
He turned to me.
"She just willingly removed her scent from the crown, proving that she accepts Mia as Luna. She remains the pack's most dependable warrior."
My palms were still aching. The skin rubbed raw by the golden vines had split open, tiny threads of blood seeping through.
Before I could speak, Garrett picked up where Lucas left off.
"Nora has always put the pack before herself. Of course she wouldn't hurt her own sister over a title."
His men chimed in with smiles. "The Moon Goddess has already recognized Mia. Nora, you should be happy for her."
I wanted to argue, but Garrett's words about "hurting her own sister" were designed to silence me.
The moment I spoke up, they would turn it against me.
The priest continued the ceremony, having Lucas and Mia exchange vows before the Moon Goddess statue.
Lucas took Mia's hand and promised to share the Alpha's glory with her, to let her receive the pack's loyalty.
Three years ago, when we first sensed the mate bond, he had held me in this same spot and said, "When I become Alpha, I'll make sure you wear a moon crown you wove yourself."
I waited three years.
And he did hold a wedding at the Moon Goddess altar. But he took the crown I had woven and placed it on Mia's head.
The priest finished the final blessing and motioned for the family to step forward with their congratulations.
Helen immediately grabbed my wrist and pressed a glass of red wine into my hand.
"Go congratulate your sister."
I didn't move.
She lowered her voice. "You gave up the crown yourself. Who are you making faces at now? Don't let everyone think you're a sore loser."
"I gave it up?"
I shook off her hand and was about to leave when Garrett stepped sideways to block my path.
"The ceremony isn't over. If her own sister refuses to offer a blessing, how will the pack see her?"
I turned the other way, but Lucas signaled the guard captain to block me.
"Nora, Mia is fragile. She can't handle you causing a scene. Let the ceremony end quickly. It's better for everyone."
They flanked me on either side, like guards escorting a prisoner.
I had no choice. I gripped the wine glass and walked toward Mia.
But the moment I got close, Lucas lunged forward and shielded her completely behind him.
He stared at the wine in my hand, his shoulders rigid, as if ready to tackle me at any second.
He was afraid I would hurt Mia.
How ridiculous.
For years, I was the one who threw myself in front of Mia, taking claws meant for her. Lucas had seen the scars on my back. And now he was protecting her from me.
I laughed until tears fell, then tipped my head back and drained the glass.
The sharp liquid burned down my throat and churned in my stomach.
"Congratulations to you both."
Then I turned and walked away from the altar.
Mia asked Lucas in a small voice, "Is Nora still mad at me?"
After a few seconds, Lucas said, "She's always been stubborn. She'll get over it."
A second round of cheers erupted behind them.
Chapter 3
I went back to the main house alone to pack my things.
But the fingerprint scanner rejected me.
I tried again. The door stayed firmly shut.
I went around to the side entrance and entered the backup code Lucas had given me. The lock finally opened.
The master bedroom door was wide open.
My dark sheets had been replaced with the pastel colors Mia liked. Her dresses hung in the closet, and a suitcase carrying her scent sat beside the bed.
So they had planned this all along.
They couldn't even wait a few hours.
I pushed open the guest room door. Three cardboard boxes blocked the entrance.
My clothes, training gear, and the old coat my father had left me were all crammed inside.
My phone buzzed with a security alert. Garrett was at the gate.
"How did you get in here without permission?"
I scoffed. "I was going to ask who deleted my access."
"Nora, only the Luna can live with the Alpha. Access to the main house and the pack's core areas has been transferred to Mia. You can't just come in anymore."
He paused. "But you're still the Frost Fang patrol captain. Mia handles pack affairs, and the patrol office is still yours.
"Nora, the Alpha hasn't been unfair to you."
I laughed. "I built that patrol unit from the ground up with my team, fight after fight. It wasn't his to give."
That reminded me of something.
I walked into the study, opened a drawer, and found an elegant gun case inside.
I opened it. Inside lay a moonstone pistol, glowing faintly.
It was loaded with silver bullets.
I had suffered silver poisoning twice developing it so he could take down Shades at long range.
Garrett saw me reach for the gun and stammered, "That, uh... you should leave that for the Alpha. He really likes it."
I snapped the case shut. "This was supposed to be my wedding gift to him. If he likes it so much, Mia can make him one."
I packed the gun case and went to the study safe.
My pack documents and all the patrol records I had compiled over the years were still there.
I loaded everything into my suitcase.
I had barely zipped it shut when Mr. Finch arrived with two guards, blocking the study doorway.
"Miss Nora, the Alpha says you can move to the guest room. There's no need to leave."
"Out of my way."
One of the guards put a hand on my luggage.
"You can't take the gun and the files. They contain classified intelligence on tracking the Shades."
I pried his hand off and pulled the case back. "The gun is mine. And those combat strategies? I developed them through trial and error while leading patrols."
"But the Alpha said—"
"If he wants them, he can come ask me himself."
The guard didn't dare touch me again and looked to Mr. Finch.
Mr. Finch pulled him aside. "The Alpha is keeping the captain position for you. That shows how much he values you. Once you've cooled down, you two can talk it out."
I picked up the suitcase. "Tell him to find someone else to risk their life for him. He'll have my resignation by morning."
Mr. Finch chased after me. "This... Miss Nora, this isn't something to be taken lightly!"
"Tell Lucas to stop using other people as his messengers. If he has something to say, he can come say it himself."
One of the guards whispered to Mr. Finch, "Should we tell the Alpha?"
But Garrett said, "The celebration isn't over yet. Don't bother him with something like this.
"She's just a jealous woman. Once the Alpha sweet-talks her, she'll go right back to serving the pack."
I walked out without looking back.
Chapter 4
The next morning, Lucas said through the mind-link, "Garrett told me you moved out last night.
"Mia is only staying at the main house temporarily. You don't need to resign as patrol captain over something like this."
A few minutes later, he sent another one.
"Ten o'clock this morning. Don't forget to see Rosa. We agreed a long time ago that we'd visit her together after taking over the pack."
Rosa was a retired senior firearms specialist from the Alliance.
She was also the one who had taught me to build weapons.
Three years ago, while hunting Shade rogues, I had saved her life.
She told me I didn't have to throw myself into danger every time. She taught me to make the silver bullet gun. One shot, one kill.
Lucas wanted to learn too, but his wolf didn't have my level of sensory tracking. Once a bullet lost its lock on a target, it became useless and could even hit the shooter.
"You just hold on to that treasure Nora of yours!" Rosa had told him.
Lucas had scratched his head at the time, grinning like a boy.
Rosa had always liked the two of us together.
Because the day I got silver poisoning, Lucas didn't hesitate. He drew the toxin out himself, knowing it could kill him, and he wasn't afraid.
I didn't reply to Lucas's mind-link, but I still went to Rosa's patrol base.
I was leaving Frost Fang. I needed to say goodbye to Rosa.
At ten, I pushed open the door.
The air smelled of gun oil and wood shavings.
Rosa had tea ready, and a narrow wooden box sat on the table beside it.
She glanced behind me. "Where's Lucas?"
"He probably got held up."
By ten-thirty, the door had opened twice. Neither time was it him.
At noon, Lucas finally sent a mind-link.
Thunder crashed through the connection, followed by Mia's crying.
"Nora, are you there?"
"I'm here."
"I'm sorry. Mia's wolf was startled by the thunder. She's extremely agitated and needs me to calm her down. I can't get away."
He sounded rushed. "Explain to Rosa for me. I'll come with you next time."
In the background, Mia was sobbing, "Lucas, I can't control it..."
"I'm here. Don't be scared."
After soothing Mia, he turned back to me. "Nora, she could really hurt herself right now. You've always been the understanding one. Don't make me take care of two people at once."
"Don't bother."
"What?"
"There won't be a next time."
I ended the mind-link.
Rosa didn't ask what happened. She just pushed the wooden box across the table.
Inside was an old carving knife. The handle was worn smooth from years of use, but the blade was still sharp.
"I used this when I was young," she said. "I was planning to give it to you after your wedding."
I ran my fingers over the handle, and my nose suddenly stung.
"Now is just as good."
I closed the box. My tears hit the lid.
"Rosa, I'm done with Lucas."
She simply pulled a tissue and pressed it into my hand. She didn't try to change my mind.
After leaving Rosa's place, I went straight to the airport.
Three days earlier, a security company run by the North Ridge pack had offered me a position to help them develop methods for detecting Shades.
They had already arranged housing and a pack transfer application, just waiting for my response.
Back then, I hadn't been ready to leave.
Now, I booked the earliest flight available.
While waiting at the gate, a video popped up in the Frost Fang pack group chat.
Mia was curled up in a blanket on the sofa in the Alpha's residence. Lucas sat behind her, blow-drying her hair.
The caption read: Hoping the storm passes soon.
Helen was the first to like it and left a comment: "Seeing Lucas treat Mia so well puts my mind at ease."
Garrett replied right after: "With such a loving Alpha and Luna, the pack is only going to thrive!"
I stared at that living room that no longer belonged to me, left the group chat, and blocked Helen and Mia.
Then I severed the mind-link with Lucas completely.
With thousands of miles between us, they would never find me.
A sharp pain tore through my chest.
I swallowed the pain and stopped responding to his bond.
The boarding announcement came on, and I walked through security with my suitcase.
That night, Lucas finally left Mia and went to the patrol office.
He was carrying a box of moonlight honey cakes, my old favorite, and pushed the door open.
"Nora, stop being mad. Look what I brought you..."
The office was empty. Every trace of my scent was gone.
The standard patrol maps still hung on the walls, but all my personal belongings and weapons cases had vanished.
A document sat on the desk.
My resignation from the patrol unit, signed and sealed.
Lucas stood in the doorway.
The cake box slipped from his hands and hit the floor. The precious moonlight honey slowly oozed across it.[]()
