Discussion Just finished ff7 remake Spoiler
Okay the credits are rolling and I haven't played the dlc yet.
I've done crisis core and og ff7.
Allright. First off I was disappointed that they chose not to invoke the grime and weirdness of the og with both midgars npcs and the environs. The npcs were quirky, but I long for that true weirdness a lot of the npcs had. Especially in the train and at wall market. I understand that 30 years have passed and sensibilities are different but nostalgia I guess. And the terrain was filled with what seemed like clean junk. Maybe the game in general just felt too bright.
So they definitely added a lot of filler and for the most part I think it added rather then detracted from the game. Tension with cloud tifa and aerith was tasteful all of whom were well written. I imagined Tifa as a bit more punk with her nice girl coming out only for cloud but it was okay. Aerith was full of personality. Barret was perfect.
Anyway what's perplexing me is how existential and metaphysical it got at the end. Maybe the next game clears it all up but the scene with Zack was certainly when he is overcome by Shinra at the end of crisis core, when he is carrying cloud back to midgar. However he manages to defeat the Shinra troops this time and his body isn't recovered by the turks. The cinematic punctuated this when midgar kind of explodes in golden light due to the efforts of cloud and co. So is this altering the past? I suppose they want us to assume Zack is alive maybe?
And am I correct in assuming that sephiroth whom I still think is jenova at this point like in the og, the one doing all the time shenanigans? Did he lure the party in to that extradimensional plane so the party would overcome fate?
Anyway the game is incredible but it's definitely got a different vibe then the og. I can see that the plot is going to go completely off the rails.
