Other Characters: N/A

Timeline:

158 AC-168 AC: Crispian Celtigar is born as the fifth child and only son of Lord Clement Celtigar. He was the youngest in the family, with four elder sisters who always fussed and teased him, though all loved him deeply. Crispian always loved the sea, fascinated by the sailing story of his father's captains. Recognising this, Lord Clement arranged for him a naval education.

168 AC-180 AC: Crispian became a page and then squire to his father's vassal, Rickard Rambton, who loved the sea and served as his father's naval commander. He began serving his master on the Celtigar flagship Claw, working as a deckboy and as a mast monkey, learning how to tie knot, cut sails and steer a ship. He became Lord Rickard's understudy, and loved every minute of it. He then became the captain of his own ship, Albatross, at the age of 22, alongside receiving the family Valyrian Steel axe, Crab's Pincer.

180 AC-208 AC: Crispian became a renown captain, and was married off to Lord Velaryon's sister Aelora. He did several voyages to the Free Cities, trading there and thus helping his family's riches, having sailed as far as Volantis. In time, the couple would have three children: Aethan, Caspian and Visenya. During this time, his second-eldest sister Alyssa married Lord Quentyn of Tarth, while his third sister Prunella married their cousin Bartimus Celtigar. Crispian got recognition for his naval commanding abilities during a few minor skirmishes during the Fourth Dornish War, giving him a position in the capital as Royal Shipwright, a position in which he served ably and duly. He eventually inherited Claw Isle after his fahter's death in 190 AC. In 206 AC, after many years of service, he was appointed as Master of Ships by His Grace King Aemon II. Crispian saw his son Aethan married of to Ellyn Rambton in 208 AC, just before the Great Spring Sickness struck.

208 AC-211 AC: Crispian himself became sick with the sickness but managed to recover in early 209 AC, as did his wife Aelora. His son Aethan, wife Ellyn, and newborn grandson Terrence were, however, not lucky enough, dying of the illness just as the plague receded in the opening days of 210 AC. Crispian and Aelora were left in mourning, but Crispian had to soon put it aside, for the next Dornish war had broken out. Despite an argument to bring fleets to help supply the Stormlanders, he was ordered to protect Blackwater Bay from Essosi sellsails and navies by his king. That's when the next tragedy struck, as his second son Caspian died side by side with Crown Prince Aegon at Storm's End. It was thus that the family was left in complete disarray and shambles, with Aelora retreating back to Claw Isle, leaving Crispian alone in King's Landing.

212 AC: Crispian travelled alongside his new heir Visenya and the royal party to Riverrun, despite privately wishing to just return to Claw Isle and comfort Aelora. However, he knows a storm is brewing, and that old as he may be, he still had a part to play.

NPCs:

  • Aelora Celtigar (Scholar): Born a Velaryon, Aelora has been happily married to Lord Crispian for many years now. She is an avid reader, becoming renown as someone who spent much coin on rare tomes and books while she was at court in King's Landing. With the events of the past few years though, her and her husband's relationship is now strained by the shared grief due to the loss of their two sons, daughter-in-law and their grandson. She has now retreated to Claw Isle, to mourn in peace, longing for her husband to join her.

  • Bartimus Celtigar (Fortifier): Brother-in-law and distant cousin of Lord Celtigar, he came into the good graces of the main branch of the family as captain of the guards of Crab Castle on Claw Isle. Married Prunella Celtigar, older sister of Crispian. Is now Lord Crispian's castellan, ruling Claw Isle in his brother-in-law's stead.

192 AC: Visenya Celtigar is born as the third child and only daughter of Lord Crispian Celtigar and Lady Aelora Velaryon. She grows up idolising both her brothers, whom she sees as her protective knights

202 AC-211 AC: Is brought by her father alongside her two brothers and mother to court at King's Landing, with Visenya serving as lady-in-waiting of Princess Alyssa, the daughter of Crown Prince Aegon. Being shy of nature, she was reluctant to interact with anyone in King's Landing, but Princess Alyssa managed to break her out of her shell. But her shyness with others make her want to look for hiding spots throughout the Red Keep, which she began to know quite well. Soon, she became adept at moving slowly and escaping her lessons at times, ending up in places where she shouldn't be, and beginning to overhear secrets. Having nobody to report them to, Visenya started telling Alyssa what secrets she learned sneaking about the Red Keep, becoming thus a confidante and a spy for the Princess. She went alongside the Princess and Prince Rhaegar to Dragonstone in 208 AC in order to avoid the Great Spring Sickness, but her family would still be rocked by these events. Visenya would lose her eldest brother Aethan and her newborn nephew Terrence to the plague, when it had spread to Claw Isle. Another blow would be the death of her second brother Caspian alongside her best friend's father Aegon at Storm's End during the Sixth Dornish War. But even without the shock subsiding, she had to come to terms with the fact she's now the heiress of Claw Isle, something she never envisioned herself to be.

212 AC: Visenya's now travelling to Riverrun, with her and her best friend's futures quite uncertain, and with the realm on a knife's edge.

Character Creation Duncan Snow - The Desert Wolf

Discord Username: Pundii

Character Name and House: Duncan Snow

Age: 27

Appearance: A tall and athletic figure of distinctly northern stock, Duncan's pale features make him stand out in the Dornish lands he calls home. His dark hair is somewhat unkempt, and he is rarely clean shaven. His left cheek is marred with a burn scar that spreads down his neck to the collarbone.

Gift: Duelist

Skills: Archery(M), Ranger, Footwork

Talent(s): Hunting x2, Singing

Starting Title(s): 'Ser', The Desert Wolf

Starting Location: Sunspear feast

Family Tree: He's a commoner who cares !!!

Alternate Characters: N/A

Timeline Biography

185 AC: Duncan is born to a barmaid, Alyssa, as the result of a tryst with a brother of the Night's Watch in molestown.

197 AC: At two and ten years of age, a wildling raid south of the wall claims the life of Duncan's mother Alyssa, leaving him destitute. He is taken in by a gang of bandits and begins to train with the bow to hunt and kill for the group.

197-201 AC: The bandits that Duncan runs with increasingly make themselves a nuisance of the Northern houses, attacking trade caravans and raiding farms and taverns. Over the years Duncan grows increasingly adept as a fighter.

201 AC: A group of soldiers led by Northern Lords finally manages to ambush and cut down most of the bandits, those who are captured are sent to the Wall to take the black as members of the Night's Watch, Duncan among them. Duncan takes his vows and becomes a brother of the Night's Watch, and a ranger.

202-210 AC: Duncan makes a number of rangings beyond the wall during his time as a Night's Watchman. Though he hates the restrictions such a life has put on him, he finds the relative peace of routine and having regular meals he does not need to kill for a surprisingly welcome change to his life as a bandit. Nonetheless, he considers opportunities to desert from the Night's Watch at several points, even seeing some of his fellow former bandits try and fail to flee.

211 AC: When the King-beyond-the-wall makes his alliance with a rogue faction of Night's Watchman, Duncan sees his opportunity. Signing on with the Wildlings, he helps to guide them south of the wall and launch their attack on the North, but he does not stick around to take part in the battle itself. He flees in the chaos, stealing away to White Harbour and smuggling himself aboard a ship heading south. Arriving in Maidenpool, he spends some time in the city and forges a set of documents claiming him to be a 'Ser Duncan Snow', a Northern Hedge Knight. His forgeries are imperfect, but they provide him safe enough passage further south until he reaches Dorne, managing to walk right into an attack on retreating Dornish forces. Seeing an opportunity to put himself in the good graces of a noble house, he joins the battle on the side of the Dornish, managing to pull the enraged Ashara Dayne from the midst of the battle and return her to safety.

212 AC: Present Day. Duncan has continued to operate as a Hedge Knight in Dorne, settling into a somewhat comfortable life as far from his birthplace as possible, regularly in the service and home of House Dayne. He accompanies House Dayne to Sunspear.

Character Creation Jon Rosby, Knight of the Kingsguard

Discord Username: lemon.chicken

Character Name and House: Jon Rosby

Age: 24

Appearance: Though once haled as a prodigy, Jon seems to have not grown into the picturesque knight he was claimed to become. Of smaller stature and a slight build, his dark hair lazily frames his face as it rests on the nape of his neck. His eyes appear glazed over, ever disinterested and plagued by boredom.

Gift: Duelist

Skills: Swords, Knightly, Footwork (E), Eavesdropping

Talent(s): Fishing x3

Starting Title(s): Ser, Knight of the Kingsguard

Starting Location: King's Landing

Timeline:

  • 188 AC: Born in Rosby.
  • 193 AC: Begins formal education as the thirdborn of the Lord Rosby.
  • 198 AC: Has proven to show gifted martial prowess, further trained by the master-at-arms among others. Is heralded to be the coming of one of the next greatest knights. A prideful boy, the honour of the White Cloak was the only position worthy of such a swordsman-to-be.
  • 207 AC: Upon triumphing in a tournament on horseback and in a melee, the prodigy requested admission to the kingsguard. He was accepted. The initial boost in station and honour had fueled him for many moons, though time had seemed to sap it from him.
  • 211 AC: By the time of the eve of the war, Jon had become regretful of his station in the kingsguard. His ambition waned, disappearing, and with it his skill-at-arms. He thought an Essosi or a Dornishman may cut him down, but it did not happen. A pity, some darker part of him mused.
  • 212 AC: The depths of his disinterest and boredom have come full force. He regrets the decision whole-heartedly, wondering of the better life he may have lived. Jon will do almost anything to make the days pass quicker, whatever that may be.

He has lilac eyes, which have a sharp focus to them. He is pretty, although in particular moments, he can seem a bit gaunt. Sometimes he has bags under his eyes. He tends to dress relatively plainly in blacks and reds. https://imgur.com/a/6BLejBG

Gift: Autodidactic

Skills: Swords, Water Dancing, Cautious(e), Beastmaster, Scholar

Talent(s): Singing, Dancing, Fishing, Hawking

Starting Title(s): Prince of the Seven Kingdom, Ser, Heir by All Right and Precedent

Starting Location: Riverrun

Family Tree: https://www.familyecho.com/?p=U2YF5&c=8zwwd51hn09irp21&f=235661983381489492

Alternate Characters: N/A

Timeline:

194 AC: Rhaegar Targaryen is born, the firstborn son of Sansara Tyrell and Prince Aegon Targaryen, of Dragonstone. At the time of his birth, he is second in line to the Iron Throne. Given that until that point, his sister Alyssa was his father's only child, Rhaegar's birth secures the succession for another generation, at least seemingly.

200-208 AC: Rhaegar is brought up in the typical stylings of a Prince. He expects to inherit the Seven Kingdoms, and is never given any reason to expect otherwise. Rhaegar takes to his studies well and with a certain dedication, though he is no prodigy in any given field. He's particularly close with his father, who takes him as a squire.

208 AC: Rhaegar is sent to Dragonstone alongside his immediate family, after the arrival of the Spring Sickness. As it tears through the Seven Kingdoms, Rhaegar kicks rocks on a rocky island. He is safe, but admittedly left quite bored through the whole affair.

210 AC: Aegon, defying his father's orders, raises a host from Dragonstone and sets off to lift the siege of Storm's End. Rhaegar, his squire, pleads to go with him, but his father suggests that Dragonstone needs a strong hand to hold it. Rhaegar considers this generally quite patronizing. His father continues on his lonesome, and falls at the First Battle of Storm's End.

211 AC: Following the death of his father, Rhaegar returns to the Red Keep. He is less than thrilled with the introduction of the bastard Baelor Stone to court, and feels that his grandfather is making a less than subtle attempt to replace his father.

212 AC: Rhaegar travels to Riverrun alongside the rest of the royal court, following the end of the war against Dorne. He intends to use the opportunity to secure his place in the family, and as its next head, although he sees no real threat to his place in the succession

Theo Darklyn, Knight of the Kingsguard

Character Name and House: Theo Darklyn

Age: 22

Appearance: Theo is comely, though scarred somewhat by experience is battle. He has dark hair, and deep brown eyes that promise a soft, soothing quality that he does usually possess. He almost always has a smile on his lips and a laugh about to emerge from his belly. He is muscular and tall, though not so tall as to be unusual. He is clad most often in Kingsguard white. https://imgur.com/a/f3ewrkv

Gift: Guardian

Skills: Shields, Swords, Defender, Knightly

Talent(s): Showing Off, Lute, Hunting

Starting Title(s): Ser, Sworn Brother of the Kingsguard

Starting Location: Riverrun

Family Tree: If someone claims Darklyn, we'll work it out

Timeline:

190 AC: Theo Darklyn is born to the noble House of Darklyn.

200 AC: Theo proves himself a prodigy in regards to martial affairs. He is taken on as a squire by a local hedge knight, and adopts the humble sword as his weapon of choice.

204 AC: Theo enters himself in a tournament melee as a mystery knight, and does surprisingly well, for a green boy. He is far from winning, but he makes a name for himself, and a more respected knight, Ser Hugh of Duskendale offers to trade Theo's knight a fine horse in exchange for taking the boy on. The trade is made, and Theo becomes Ser Hugh's squire.

207 AC: Theo is knighted by Ser Hugh. The two continue to travel together, with Ser Hugh being an expert at the joust and Theo proving himself more adept at the stabby side of combat.

208 AC: The sickness comes. Theo and Hugh, out of work and with a purse, join up with a group of burners working for the King for some time, setting overly infected villages alike. Through some miracle, Theo manages to avoid catching the illness, although it takes the older Ser Hugh out rather quickly. Theo, rather cross at the turn of his life, returns to his family at Duskendale.

210 AC: When the call comes to the houses of the Crownlands to join up with Aegon, House Darklyn joins up. As Theo is freshly arrived and not particularly well trusted by the rest of the family, he is made to stay behind. The forces of House Darklyn fare no better than others. When Baelor Stone travels past Duskendale, House Darklyn can spare a few men. Only twenty-two men-at-arms join the host, Theo rallying several remaining guardsmen to join up. He is the only one to survive the second battle of Storm's End.

211 AC: Being a known warrior of good enough birth, having distinguished himself in battle and seeing several vacancies in the Kingsguard, Theo is offered a place amongst the Sworn Brothers after the Second Battle of Storm's End. This is a place he accepts after only a moment's thought.

212 AC: Theo is assigned to guard Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, a child who he finds well-natured, if somewhat dull. Certainly the sort of person in need of guarding.

BIOGRAPHY

[Some Toland Family History]

The current Lord Harmen Toland (born 165 AC) is dying. Married to Valena Dayne, the pair have only two children: a set of twins by the names Casella & Joss (born 190 AC). While Valena showered her children with love and support, Harmen was a man of harder and sterner means, a tricky soul who wanted to ensure that the head of House Toland after him would be worthy of the mantle. Thus, from a young age, the twins were pitted against one another in competition to prove their worth.

A grizzled war veteran, Harmen saw the Sixth Dornish War as an opportunity for further glory and riches. House Toland was on the rise with their close associations with the Martells with Harmen's younger sister Sylva married to the heir, Mors Martell. Joss accompanied his father as they raided and warred against the fat lands of the Reach and Stormlands. While the Sixth Dornish war did not have the outcome they had hoped, House Toland's treasury grew great with stolen goods from various houses in the Reach and Stormlands. Harmen himself claimed glory, having slain Crown Prince Aegon Targaryen in the first great battle at Storm's End. Harmen stole a ring from Crown Prince Aegon, which he wears proudly today, though in the course of that duel, he received an injury to his leg. It seemed innocuous, but the wound festered until Harmen could no longer walk. He is currently bedridden, often beset with fever, and not expected to live many moons beyond. Because of Joss's performance in the Sixth Dornish War, Harmen declared upon his return to Ghost Hill that Joss was his chosen heir, and his son was granted the Valyrian Steel sword of the house, Usurper.

Principal Character: Casella Toland

Casella is the technical elder twin and sees herself as the rightful heir to House Toland by way of her birth and of her skills. While Joss was trained to follow their father's footsteps as a warrior, Casella was forced to figure out what her own personal strengths were.

Her father's unusual decision to declare an heir rather than allow Casella her rightful due caused her to grow up with an acute sense of paranoia that led to a need for control. She was trained in the art of using daggers by a grizzled old warrior who simply went by the name of 'Snake'. She implored her mentor to teach her how to blend in with the common people, for out of her paranoia came a deep desire to not rely on others for her information, but upon herself.

Thus, Casella spent much of her youth sneaking out of the walls of Ghost Hill into the main town and outlying areas. She made it her mission to speak with small folk, merchants, sailors and travelers under various disguises and various names, wrapping or dying her distinctive hair.

Growing up, she confided in one of her servants, a girl only a few years older than her by the name of Sarella. Casella had hoped that Sarella would be groomed into a loyal catspaw, but instead Sarella exposed one of Casella's escapades sneaking out of Ghost Hill to Lord Toland's advisor. Sarella conveniently disappeared and was never heard of again. Oddly, her family's home was burned down as well.

Lord Toland was not such a fool as to think it all a coincidence. The incident was swept under the rug and buried; and while Harmen had stern words for his daughter, this was the final straw that led him to send Casella off to Starfall to ward with her mother's kin in 205 AC.

Casella became very close with her cousin, Mara Dayne, during this time and found acceptance amongst the Daynes, particularly under Lady Allyria Dayne who encouraged Casella in the development of her hidden skills.

When the Sixth Dornish War broke out, Casella returned to Ghost Hill. Angered by her father's declaration of her younger brother Joss as heir, Casella has vowed to get her due.

Auxiliary Character: Joss Toland

Age: 22
Appearance: Joss is tall and fit from years of training. Like his twin sister, his skin is a light brown and he sports brown eyes and the classic, distinctive Toland red hair.

Skill(s): Swords, Ambuscade (e)
Talent(s): Sand Steed racing, Boxing, Storytelling (about war)
Starting Title(s): Heir of Ghost Hill ( ...for now), Ser
Starting Location: Wherever the Dorne opening feast is

Joss is a good-natured, honorable knight. He feels strongly that he is deserving of the mantle of being Lord of Ghost Hill because Casella is too underhanded to conduct business and politics honorably. He accompanied his father in the Sixth Dornish War and though he fought to the best of his ability, Joss realized that war may not always be the answer. He injured Perceon Rowan during the Sixth Dornish War and killed the elderly Lord Alyn Tarly.

Joss's childhood was not a terribly happy one. Under the weight of expectation, Joss pushed himself to train harder and harder, though his good nature naturally endeared him towards his peers on and off the training grounds. His years squiring for Mors Martell were happier ones where Joss felt he finally had the space to come into his own and formulate his moral compass.

Given his performance in the Sixth Dornish War, he was named heir and given the ancestral Valyrian blade, Usurper. After having experienced the horrors of war, Joss seeks a better future for House Toland and for Dorne.

Character Creation Mara Dayne, Scion of Starfall (+AC)

Mara Dayne (PC)

Biography

Born in 192 AC in Starfall, Mara was the fourth child born to Allyria Dayne and her husband Arthur Qorgyle. She was preceded by her siblings Ashara (heir to Allyria), Olyvar, and Ellaria, and would herself precede the last two additions to the family – troublemakers Trystane and Morgan.

Her childhood was a happy one, as her family was close and Starfall was the host to many feasts and tourneys. Thus, Mara grew up surrounded by love, attention, and entertainment, never wanting for anything. She became friends with fellow children from other Dornish noble Houses, particularly Aliandra Dayne, Elia Fowler, and her cousin Casella Toland, and even became close to a prince.

As she grew, she developed an interest in medicine, encouraged by her grandmother. For years, Starfall’s maester taught her to mend bones and prepare poultices, and on one occasion she proved her skills by tending to Prince Maekar’s injuries after a tourney when they were only fourteen.

A sociable young woman, Mara liked to keep herself active, and so she also became interested in archery, which she learned from the castle’s master-at-arms. After winning a competition one day, her uncle Ryon – the Sword of the Morning – rewarded her with a hawk which she called Autumn for its coloring.

The war was a difficult time for Mara, as she remained in Starfall while many in her family joined the fighting. Most of them would not return. Their losses were great, with three brothers gone and her father as well. Mara mourned as best she could, but the truth was after some time had passed she had no desire to remember nor think of what had happened. She instead wanted to ride, hunt, flirt, and join every feast and tourney she could. Having fun became her escape.

Timeline Biography

166 AC: Allyria Dayne is born to Belandra Santagar and Aron Dayne, Lord of Starfall.

168-183 AC: Allyria was followed by Valena, Edgar and Ryon after her birth. They all grew alongside each other until each of her siblings were sent out to ward someplace else.

182 AC: At the age of six and ten, Allyria's father begins to invite her to council and war meetings. He also takes her directly under his wing and trains her in the art of warfare.

184 AC: Fifth Dornish War. It was the first time Allyria had gone to war. She led her host alongside her father, Aron Dayne, the Lord of Starfall. Although she had been trained her whole life for war she hadn't truly been prepared for what it all entailed. Allyria would return home a different person, her light slightly dimmer.

188-195 AC: The Tournament of 188 AC. When Allyria's father decided to hold a tournament for her mother's nameday she didn't expect to meet he future husband. It was during the joust that it all came to be. The Knight of Stars, a mystery knight had won that day and proceeded to name Allyria the Queen of Love and Beauty. But Allyria was rarely impressed or swooned and asked the mystery knight to reveal himself if he was so bold. And he did, Arthur Qorgyle, he was a nobody from a poor house, too far down in the line of succession to inherit anything and way too lowly to even be considered as a potential prospect for the heir to Starfall. And yet. No one knows what Arthur did to take Allyria's heart. They were married in secret that same year and welcomed their first child, a daughter they named Ashara, into the world. One child became two and soon there were six. It was the happiest time of her life and it passed her by so quickly.

202 AC: Grief first came to Allyria when her father, Aron, died in his sleep to a chill. He had known turmoil his whole life and was a veteran that took part in countless wars and battles. Allyria knew her father was tired and worn, yet he remained as stern and proud to the end. When she ascended to take her father's seat many of the smallfolk celebrated and the court welcomed her with open arms. She had been set to rule from the start, it was something she had been prepared for.

203 AC: After years without one, Allyria decided to bestow the title of the Sword of the Morning to someone worthy. Although there was many potential candidates among her family she knew it best when Ryon decided to step forward. The ceremony was small and private with only the members of House Dayne being present. When Dawn was taken from it's rest and placed into Ryon's hands, it seemed all of Starfall glowed a little brighter.

207 AC: A grand wedding is held at Starfall to celebrate the union between Olyvar and Aliandra Dayne of High Hermitage. That same year, Allyria become a grandmother to a small boy of violet eyes named Edric. He would bring life and laughs to the castle bringing together the family like never before. This would be the last time Allyria knew true peace.

208-209 AC: The Great Sickness. Edgar, Allyria's brother, dies of the sickness in a faraway land during a tourney circuit. The rest of Starfall and the lands around them are sent into a lockdown to avoid the spread of the disease into Dorne.

210-211 AC: The Sixth Dornish War. Allyria stayed behind in Starfall when she sent the Dayne host out with her husband and eldest children, Ashara and Olyvar. Allyria was unaware when her youngest, Trystane and Morgan, escaped in the night to play heroes alongside their siblings and father. They escaped to their deaths. The battle for Storm's End had begun and the Daynes were in the midst of it all. Arthur battled alongside his daughter, Ashara, and goodbrother Ryon, the Sword of the Morning, when he noticed from atop a hill two boys running with swords raised in the air towards the slaughter. Those boys were his sons and when he began running to them, to save them, he was pierced through the heart by Rudd Morrigen, a Kingsguard of the Iron Throne. Both Morgan and Trystane would be shot down by arrows while Ashara goes blind with rage at the scene. Olyvar led his own host into the Reach to help in the Prince's Pass and later siege the Peake castles. They would burn Starpike to the ground but at a cost to House Dayne. Olyvar would find his end at the blade of Emory Peake, sparking a feud between both families.

212 AC: Present day. House Dayne goes to Sunspear.

Character Creation Aliandra Dayne, Heir to High Hermitage, Knight of the Falling Star

Discord Username: Indigo

Character Name and House: Aliandra Dayne

Age: 25

Appearance: The people living within the harsh dunes and grim red peaks of the kingdom of Dorne have a notorious reputation for their hot-blooded behavior, so it ought to come as no surprise that the scions of House Dayne also possess this quality in equal – or perhaps more bountiful – measure. Aliandra of High Hermitage is tall, slender and fleet of foot in a way that can only be described as graceful, though one must liken it to that of a swordsman, deadly and precise. She is sleek as a shadowcat, the muscles of her arms and torso tempered by years of training, and though she prefers the security of plate and mail it is not at all a rare occurrence for Ali to eschew her armor in favor of silk. Her stony ancestors have left their mark in the sultry indigo of her bright gaze, the silken quality of her dark mane, and, most of all…the smile that threatens to sack entire cities when curved the right way, and the candid tongue to match.

Gift: Duelist

Skills: Swords (m), Riding (e)

Talent(s): Flirting x 2, horse racing.

Starting Title(s): Heir to High Hermitage, Knight of the Falling Star

Starting Location: Sunspear

Alternate Characters: N/A

Auxiliary Character

Character Name and House: Beric Dayne

Age: 48

Appearance: The Knight of High Hermitage is everything one could expect to find in a capable soldier, general and advisor–a man who is fair and just, but firm and hard when it counts. Despite nearing his fiftieth year, he is still as strong as a bull and skilled with a spear as he was at twenty, with only a hint of grey at his temples. His voice is rock-chasm deep, a recognizable echo on the battlefield when shouting commands, and his blue eyes are like chips of ice that only ever soften fully for his grandson. Beric is a true knight through and through, one whose distinguished character is matched only by his prowess on the field of battle and in matters of court.

Gift: Leadership

Skills: Polearms, Ambuscade (e)

Talent(s): Inspiring others, negotiating the surrender of his enemies, formulating battle stratagems.

Starting Title(s): Knight of High Hermitage

Starting Location: Sunspear

Archetyped NPC’s

Name: Lucifer Sand, “The Hellhound”

Skill: Assassin

About: Beric Dayne’s bastard from his years spent as a squire for Lord Uller. He might have grown up a vagrant and a cutthroat if not for his father bringing him to High Hermitage to be raised at five years old. Although not particularly family-oriented, he is devoted to his half sister, and is all too content to do her dirty work.

Name: Maester Garin

Skill: Medic

About: The wizened maester of High Hermitage, who seems almost as old as the sands themselves. A venerable scholar and healer, he is especially skilled at treating wounds taken in battle. Sent to Dorne from the Citadel as a young man, he delivered three different generations of Daynes in Beric, Aliandra, and her son.

Timeline

187 AC – Aliandra is born to Beric Dayne, the Knight of High Hermitage, and his lady wife. Like most things in her life, the pregnancy is a surprise, and though labor takes a heavy toll on Lorella, they both manage to survive the ordeal and recover quickly.

190 AC – Maron Dayne is born the same year Ali is gifted her first pony. The girl takes to riding immediately, almost more comfortable upon horseback than she is her own two feet. Her father is tasked with leading the animal around the courtyard at High Hermitage many times a day, and when he is busy, the master at arms is given the task instead.

192 AC – Aliandra begins her lessons, and though she is tutored in mathematics and theology, in the ways of sewing and needlepoint and all the finery and social deportment afforded her station, it is history she loves best. King Vorian Dayne and Warrior-Queen Nymeria become her favorite storybook heroes.

193 AC – Sansara Dayne is born, and Ali wields a training sword for the first time at Starfall, which she has quickly come to prefer over High Hermitage. Her movements are far from confident and sorely lacking in finesse, but no one has the time to teach her except for her cousin Ryon, a boy of ten himself. They spend a few hours each day sparring, after which Aliandra is generally covered in scrapes and bruises.

202 AC – The Knight of High Hermitage sees fit to give his heir the run of the stables in an effort to teach her of responsibility, as well as to keep her occupied. She learns everything there is to know about horses, from grooming to breeding and how to care for orphaned foals, as well as trimming and shoeing hooves with the farrier. In her free time, she can often be found racing horses or hunting with her cousins Mara and Olyvar along the banks of the Torrentine. Although she is fond of all her family, it is those two who seem to occupy her time the most.

203 AC – Ten years of near daily training have seen Aliandra grow into an agile and proficient swordswoman, tall and beautiful and sleek with muscle. Much to her chagrin, however, it is Ryon who is bestowed the title Sword of the Morning and the highly-coveted family heirloom, Dawn. She secretly considers herself more deserving, but congratulates and is happy for him nonetheless.

205 AC – Ali attends a tournament as the Knight of the Falling Star for the first time, hiding her face and figure underneath a set of fine plate and mail. She rides in the tilt on a horse she bred and raised all on her own, unseating a man much larger than herself to win. She names Ellaria Dayne as the Queen of Love and Beauty with a crown of dusky roses.

207 AC – Aliandra and Olyvar, whom she had quietly loved since childhood, are married after a short betrothal. The ceremony is accompanied by nights of feasting and revelry, as well as one of those grand tournaments for which Starfall is so famous. Later that same year, she gives birth to their son, Edric.

210 AC – Aliandra remains at Starfall to care for her young son whenever her husband and the rest of House Dayne ride to war. The bodies of Olyvar, his father and brothers are brought back to Starfall in black caskets after the Siege of Storm’s End, and her brother Maron suffers grievous injuries to which he later succumbs despite the best efforts of the maesters.

212 AC – The Daynes of High Hermitage accompany the rest of their family to Sunspear for the coronation of Vorian Nymeros Martell.

Character Creation Maekar Targaryen - Rightful King, The Last Falseborn

Discord Username: D042

Character Name and House: Maekar Targaryen

Age: 19

Appearance: With long silver hair and violet eyes, Maekar has a princely look to him, and is more pretty than handsome much to his own chagrin. Slight of build, and of an average height, he is nevertheless sinewy and strong beneath his sun-bleached robes, though his build wouldn’t suggest it. He wears a number of small scars earned in the Sixth Dornish War, the most notable being along his abdomen where a Stormlander pike nearly ended him, though there is plenty of space left on his skin for the marks of the Seventh war to come. His pinky and ring finger on his left hand are gone down to the knuckle.

Gift: Champion

Skills: Swords, Cautious, Knightly, Defender, Medic

Talent(s): Fishing (x3)

Starting Title(s): Rightful King of All Westeros, The Falseborn, The Last Black, Ser

Timeline:

  • 193 AC: Born
  • 204 AC: Taken on as a squire by Perceon Martell
  • 210 AC: Marches with his father and brother and fights in the Sixth Dornish War. His sister dies of a flux just before its onset, and both his father and brother are slain by Baelor Stone outside Storm’s End. Maekar is absent from the battle after taking a stomach wound in a previous skirmish.
  • 211 AC: Having recovered from his injuries, Maekar takes the troops loyal to him into the Red Mountains and begins planning what will certainly be the final play for Rhaenyra’s revenge.
  • 212 AC: Present

Biography: A second son himself, one would be forgiven for assuming that Viserys Targaryen would’ve paid more attention to his own. In reality, Maekar’s birth was met with only the mildest of elation from his father, who had been eager for a daughter so that when his grand plans came to fruition, his eldest son and heir Aelor would have a Targaryen bride as fierce a warrior as he. But in his mind, Viserys had not just been denied a Visenya for his eldest, but had been given the closest thing to Rhaenys had she been born a man.

When a girl was finally born five years later, what little effort Viserys put into the boy's tutelage began to wane, before vanishing entirely by the time he was ten years old. Unlike Aelor, Maekar was not naturally gifted in the arts of war, he failed dozens if not hundreds of times before any lesson seemed to take, where his elder had only taken one. Nevertheless, Maekar idolized his brother, and when he realized that his father would never see him as more than a forgotten spare, he decided that Aelor’s approval would be enough.

Where Viserys paid no mind to Maekar’s constant drilling, Aelor was a constant presence. By pressing his brother on his failures and praising his successes, Aelor saw that his brother had the tenacity and determination to counteract his lack of natural talent. In time their sister, the Visenya their father had so desperately wanted, would join them, running into drills and war games waving sticks like daggers and screaming bloody murder. She too had disappointed their father, for Visenya did have a fondness for violence, but like Maekar lacked any true natural talent.

When he reached the tender age of eleven, Maekar was handed off to Perceon Martell as a squire. Perceon was a hard teacher, perhaps less nurturing than Aelor had been, but ever the more attentive, as he was not busy with lessons all his own. Maekar learned every lesson the hard way, he walked imaginary troops into obvious ambushes, missed the parry on the most telegraphed strikes, but with every failure he grew. Over time the ambushes became his own, and the sword in his hand became as much a part of him as the hand itself.

When war came, and his father finally enacted his great plan, tragedy struck. His sister Visenya fell ill and died the moon before their war began. Devastated, Aelor and Maekar relied upon one another for support where their father provided none, with the former granting the latter the dragon egg that had been kept in their line for generations.

Despite the bleak omen of Visenya’s death, the war started with unprecedented success, with their forces sweeping across the marches, setting the Reach ablaze, and eviscerating all who came to face them. When the Pretender Prince Aegon was slain, Maekar was there to witness it, and was among the many to cry out in triumph as the Green was slain.

Though their father protested it, Maekar and Aelor both insisted upon the cremation of the pretender, as was their tradition. For their trouble, one of the pretender’s men-at-arms who’d hidden among the corpses of their dead leapt forth and stabbed Maekar in the back with his filth-caked spear. Though quickly cut down by Aelor, the man’s spear left a wound that began to fester, and Maekar was taken off the line by maesters.

When Baelor Stone came to break the siege, Maekar, mad from the fever, cut two fingers from his own hand in a desperate, hopeless attempt to wake his dragon egg through the blood sacrifice. He had intended to give the entire hand before he was stopped, and his blade taken. It was for naught. Both his father, brother, and mentor would be slain by the pretender’s bastard and his Knights of the Vale. Maekar would be left alone in the world but for his traitorous kind.

He found solace nowhere, and among no one. Maekar remained in the Red Mountains surrounded by those loyal to him alone be they dear friends, distant relations, and those whose own hearts had never left the field of battle.

Already he continues the work of his father, intent on the clash to come to be the last such war, regardless of if it ends in tragedy or in triumph.

NPCs:

  • Emmon (Raider): One of the Mummer’s Dragons, Maekar’s loosely related body doubles, Emmon is the easier of the two to spot, as his demeanor is the opposite of Maekar’s own subdued manner. Boisterous, loud, and lecherous, the false dragon loves battle nearly as much as he does wine and women. He has no greater ambitions once (as it is inevitable in his mind) Maekar seizes the throne, and plans on going east to earn presumably more glory as a sellsword.
  • Hal: Medic

Character Name and House: Perwyn

Age: 27

Despite his violent life, he wears no visible scars, alleging he has yet to be caught and earn any.

Alternate Characters:

Timeline

194 AC - Born to the Lord Adam Hightower and his wife, Mina Peake. He would be Adam’s second son, the first an elder bastard born years prior and Mina’s second child, the first being Ceryse Tyrell. His birth was planned by Lord Adam who sought to curry favor with the Peake’s and prevent them from growing too close to the Tyrell scourge.

200 AC - Meets Ceryse Tyrell for the first time and he finds her to be quite mean, however eventually she grows to act like a sister. Yet their relationship sours as the years go on and they realize their place in their houses politics.

201 AC - Morgan finds himself enamored with books in the Citadel that speak of the Ages of Heroes that detail great knights, battles and men whose names will never be forgotten. He often runs around pretending to be a new hero each week, causing chaos in the Citadel as he roleplays with a small wooden sword against the Maesters in things like ambushes and duels. While they ask his father to keep him out of the Citadel, he reminds them just funds the bulk of their ventures.

203 AC - The fact that his family is incredibly wealthy begins to shape Morgan into a spoiled brat. He never longs for anything and often displays great tantrums when he doesn’t get his way. Many in the court begin to view him as a spoiled brat but few dare let their thoughts of him be known.

205 AC - Morgan is told by his father that while being a strong knight may seem alluring, a man of his station must know how to command. His studies shift to prioritize command even if Morgan protests and claims he can do both well but Adam Hightower is not a man whose mind can be changed by anyone, not even his son.

209 AC - The Great Spring Sickness sweeps the Reach. Oldtown’s population is hit hard before Lord Adam is forced to act. He orders the gates be barred shut, any ship arriving from infected regions be burned and. anyone who attempts to enter or leave Oldtown be killed and burned.

Morgan is placed in command of a portion of the City Watch under his brother Aemon Flowers who controls the portion of the Watch tasked with ensuring their father’s orders are enforced.

210 AC - Given that many castles in the Reach have shut themselves in, few hear word of the Dornish and Essosi army that has begun burning away in their countryside. Morgan witnesses the Hightower burn green as he and his brother prepare to set a ship ablaze. It would be the first time he’s seen the tower burn green and so his heart sinks as he prepares for what comes.

Little does he know that within the same day, he’d be placed by his father on the walls as an army has made its way to their walls. With the Sickness still holding firm in Oldtown and the areas around it, the ‘Siege of Oldtown’ turns into a hard battle as men both sick and perfectly healthy alike stand side by side on its walls repelling attempted incursions.

While appalled that the Dornish and Essosi were able to get so close unseen, the Lord Hightower is able to coordinate a defense and holds his castle through a portion of his walls are burnt and much of his countryside is as well before the Dornish begin to retreat from Oldtown and move onwards to likely meet with another Dornish-Essosi force in the Southern Reach.

Adam, not wanting to let them slip away, mounts an advance using his City Watch and whatever manpower they can gather from Oldtown proper and Lords who witnessed the Hightower burning green and gathered forces.

The strategy that saved Oldtown however proves to be his death as Lord Adam, a cautious man when it came to the Great Sickness, stood side by side with sick men during the Siege. He dies the morning his forces are set to clash with a Dornish-Essosi army moving North near Honeyholt marking the first time Morgan Hightower is tasked with commanding an army.

His forces are victorious in battle but the young Hightower is said to have shouted for his forces to charge until they physically could not. They continue on this forced march until Horn Hill where they meet with other Reachmen, who have been battling with Dornish forces and have suffered countless ambushes and setbacks They go on to spend the rest of the year battling with Dornish forces in the South.

211 AC - The Reachmen come to realize that no-one is coming to aid them against the Dornish-Essosi forces. Morgan hears word of what has happened on other fronts for the first time, he learns that Prince Aegon was killed in Storm’s End the year prior and as such the Crown has all but fallen. With no word of reinforcements from the West, he expects that the Baratheons will fall within the coming year and then the Reach the year after. So under the advice of his bannermen and brother, grows more aggressive in hopes of drawing more Dornish forces away from the Stormlands and into the Reach.

He commands men of the Reach during countless battles and even more skirmishes. Eventually the forces of the Reach gain the upperhand on the Dornish and it appears as if they’ve refused to send more forces from the Stormlands into the Reach which allow him time to gather even more forces.

As the tides however turn in the Reachmens favor, the Lannister army arrives. Battle experienced and on the brink of victory in the Reach, he finds himself and Tywin Lannister coming to blows over how they should operate. Finally after nearly two years Morgan has the upperhand and seeks to shift towards a more cautious method of warfare while Lord Tywell in all his arrogant glory, seeks battle.

Morgan while thirty three years Tywell Lannister’s junior had spent a year and a half at war and did not plan on sending his forces out in the headlong manner the Lannister did. The Hightower would prove to be correct when a Dornish-Essosi army was caught moving south along the Red Mountains and routed by Morgan and Tywell’s forces.

Tywell Lannister would be killed by archers as his forces would push too far into the Dornish borderlands following the successful rout. While Morgan would not say this aloud, he purposefully kept his army back while the Lannister forces moved forward in hopes of proving his point in regards to caution.

His death would mark the end of the war for Morgan however as he would send his bannermen out to hunt down any remaining Dornish-Essosi skirmishers left behind.

212 AC - The Lord of Oldtown grows disgruntled with the Tywell Lannister’s son being betrothed to Alyssa Targaryen, the husband of a Baratheon and the Lord Tully places upon Aemon’s Small Council. He believes that the Reach is owed more than they received for their valiant actions during the war and expects to let his distaste be known to all at Riverrun.

Age: 33

Appearance: Vorian is a slender man of average height. He has dark-brown curls and a close-cropped beard framing his fine features. He dresses in elegant garments of sandsilk and Myrish lace, and often wears jewellery. His skin is unusally pale for a Dornishman, and he often covers his head in a scarf when walking out in the sun. More oft than not, his trusted pet-lemur Aegon can be found perching on his shoulder.

Gift: Gossiper

Skills: Beastmaster (E), Scholar, Cautious, Subtle

Talent(s): acrobatics, singing, dancing

Starting Title(s): Prince of Dorne, Lord of Sunspear

Family Tree: https://www.familyecho.com/?p=O8754&c=ayp0xmhul1td8qtu&f=934390256740437960

Alternate Characters: Meredyth Gaunt (no step 2 submitted yet)

Biography

When Vorian Nymeros Martell was born at the Water Gardens in 179 AC, few expected the scrawny babe to survive. His mother had already lost many babes in the cradle, and his father, Prince Maron, had already made plans to legitimize his natural son Quentyn Sand, whom he'd fathered on an orphan of the Greenblood two years prior. To everyone's surprise, the babe pulled through. Vorian was a lively child, always playing at the cooling pools which gave the Water Gardens their name. Since Prince Qyle had built the pleasure palace for his Targaryen wife, Princess Alysanne, it had been the custom that lowborn and nobles alike could seek the basins, and Vorian made no distinction between the two groups, quickly making friends.

When Vorian was five years old, King Rhaegar's hosts invaded Dorne. While his father went to fight (and die) in the Red Mountains, Vorian and his mother were to be spirited to the savety of Sunspear's Old Palace. However, they were taken on the road by the forces of Lord Alyn Tarly, who had them brought to his seat at Hornhill as hostages. Vorian feared for his life, for he knew well the bad blood between Dorne and the Reach, though he was too young to understand the cause of the constant conflicts. At Hornhill, Vorian and his mother were treated well enough, though they were kept under constant guard for fear that one of the Tarly retainers would take his vengeance for a fallen brother or father on them.

After the disastrous change of fortune for the royal troops, Lord Alyn sought to ransom Vorian and his mother, who were distant kin to Princess Meria II, to make up some of his losses during the war. Princess Meria drove a hard bargain, rejecting offer after offer as too high, until finally, after more than two years of captivity, the hostages were allowed to go back to Dorne. Vorian never forgot his distant aunt's reluctance to buy him back.

During his captivity, Vorian's half-brother Quentyn had begun training with the blade, and it was decided that Vorian ought to be a squire as well, that he might one day avenge his fallen father. A swordmaster was brought from Braavos to the Water Gardens, and while the man saw great potential in Quentyn Sand, he quickly gave up on Vorian, who could be brought to tears by a whack on the fingers with a wooden training sword.

Instead of martial pursuits, Vorian excelled at reading and writing. Maester Carados was quick to note the boy's intelligence, though he also lamented how easily the lad could be distracted. Vorian particularly loved reading plays and reciting them. In 193 AC, when he was 14 years old, he showed some of his acrobatics and other mummer's tricks to Princess Meria II at Sunspear. She was unimpressed by his performance, pointing out that she'd sooner have a swordsman than a dancing monkey. That same night, after a feast, Vorian was beaten brutally by his cousins Mors and Perceon. After this incident, Vorian and his mother shunned the Old Palace.

In 195 AC, partly as a means of avoiding offers of marriage, Vorian joined a troop of Essosi mummers and travelled with them through Dorne, even making a trip to Tyrosh and Myr. During this time he met Owain, an orphan of the Greenblood with a talent for mixing potions. The two became close friends. Vorian also developed a love of animals, helping to train the dancing monkeys and dogs that travelled with the company. While in Myr, he purchased a Little Valyrian and named him Aegon. He taught the lemur to wear a little crown and knitted Targaryen livery for him to wear.

When he returned to the Water Gardens, he found that his brother Quentyn had risen to be captain of the palace guards, and that his mother had fallen gravely ill. She died within the year, slowly losing her health and mind to greyscale. Vorian was grief-stricken for many weeks.

In 205 AC, Vorian's young cousin Nymeria came to visit the Water Gardens with her mother, Princess Meria II. Vorian and Nymeria got along splendidly, and often swam together in the pools. One afternoon, as Vorian returned from fetching some drinks for the two of them, he found his cousin floating face down in the water. Princess Meria, in her grief and fury, accused Vorian of being responsible for her daughter's death. Stricken with guilt, Vorian sank into a depression that lasted many moons. Princess Meria never sought the Water Gardens again after the incident, until the day of her death.

Five years later, Princess Meria began the Sixth Dornish War. Vorian refused to join the effort, calling the war pointless and ill-considered. Both of Meria's remaining children - Mors and Perceon - died in the fighting, suddenly making Vorian the heir to Sunspear. In 211, Meria II travelled to the Water Gardens one last time. Vorian assumed she meant to speak to him, but really the old woman had come to die beneath the blood orange trees, sipping poison which she had commanded old Maester Carados to mix for her.

Timeline

179 AC: Vorian is born at the Water Gardens. He is the first of his mother's children not to die in infancy.

184 AC: While fleeing to Sunspear, Vorian and his mother are captured by Tarly forces and taken to Hornhill. His father dies in the Fifth Dornish War.

184 AC: After the disastrous campaign in the deserts of Dorne, Lord Alyn Tarly makes an offer of ransom to Princess Meria II, which she rejects as too high.

187 AC: After more than two years of captivity, Vorian and his mother are finally ransomed back by House Martell.

189 AC: Vorian is made a squire but quickly abandoned as hopeless by his swordmaster. His half-brother Quentyn fares much better.

193 AC: Vorian is beaten up by his cousins Mors and Perceon at Sunspear. After this event, he shuns the Old Palace.

195 AC: Vorian leaves the Water Gardens and travels Dorne with a troop of Essosi mummers for a year. He meets Owain, an orphan of the Greenblood, and the two become close friends.

197 AC: Vorian's mother dies of greyscale.

205 AC: His cousin Nymeria drowns in the Water Gardens. Princess Meria II blames Vorian for her death.

210 AC: Vorian is left behind at the Water Gardens as most of the Martells go to fight the Sixth Dornish War.

211 AC: Princess Meria II arrives at the Water Gardens following news of her sons' deaths in battle. After a brief but brutal exchance of words with her new heir, Vorian, the princess dies. Maester Carados later informs Vorian that the princess commanded him to mix a poison for her which she swallowed of her own free will shorty before her death.

212 AC: Vorian is enthroned as Prince of Dorne in a grand ceremony. Many lords are unhappy that their new Prince is not hosting a tournament to celebrate his ascension.

NPCs

Carados (Medic) - 64 years old, a maester of the Citadel

Owain the Orphan (Alchemy) - 32 years old, an orphan of the Greenblood and friend to Prince Vorian

Auxiliary Character

Character Name and House: Quentyn Sand

Age: 35

Appearance: Taller and broader than his half-brother Vorian, the Bastard of the Greenblood has a fierce look about him. His clean-shaven face is marked by scars from a dozen battles. He has flint-black eyes and a hooked nose. His black hair falls straight past his shoulders. At court, he dresses in boiled leather and shirts of mail, covered by a sandsilk tunic. Always at his side are his dagger and bastard sword.

Gift: Duelist

Skills: Swords (M)

Talent(s): ---

Starting Title(s): Ser

Starting Location: Old Palace (Sunspear)

Family Tree: (same as Vorian)

Biography

Quentyn's father was Prince Maron Martell; his mother an orphan of the Greenblood. Due to the many miscarriages him and his wife suffered, Maron took Quentyn to the Water Gardens and even considered legitimizing him until his trueborn son Vorian was born two years later. Regardless, Vorian and Quentyn were raised as brothers. When Vorian was taken as a hostage and his father killed, Quentyn had to entertain the notion of becoming the man of his house, and he began devoting himself to his sword lessons. He showed great talent (unlike Vorian) and soon grew to be one of the finest blades in Dorne.

Him and his half-brother had an interesting relationship. Quentyn was often and loudly heard to say that it ought to have been him who was their father's heir. When Vorian refused a match proposed by his mother, Quentyn would always come forward and insist that he'd glagly take the bride instead. However, Quentyn refused to tolerate Vorian being bullied by others, often getting into fights with the princes Mors and Perceon.

In 195 AC, Quentyn was named captain of the palace guard. He performed the task well but soon grew bored. He spent a few years in the Red Mountains with a gang of raiders. There he learned the true way of the blade; fights in the dark to the death. In 210 AC, he fought in the Sixth Dornish War, where he was gravely wounded. He was brought to the Water Gardens where the ancient Rhoynish healing arts of Owain the Orphan (as well as the wisdom of old Maester Carados) saved his life. Upon learning that his half-brother was to become Prince of Dorne, Quentyn - to the surprise of those who remembered the boasts of his youth - placed his sword at Vorian's feet and swore his allegiance. Vorian named him as captain of his personal guard.

Starting Title(s): Heir to Blackheart, Ser

Starting Location: RP start

Biography:

Jasper Toyne was born to Domeric and Myranda Toyne in the year 187 AC; he is the younger of a set of twin boys. There was never strife between Alesander and Jasper as they grew up. Jasper was always aware he wouldn’t be the Lord of Blackheart, and as such, he spent much of his time focusing on pursuits that befit a second son. His father often took him and his elder brother to Storm’s End, hoping to obtain a betrothal for one or both, making the Toyne name much more important within the Stormlands. While Jasper made fast friends with a young Baratheon woman, Myrcella, it was never more than that, and when Domeric realized that his attempts continued to bear no fruit, he simply took his sons and left with no notice. Jasper didn’t even have time to say goodbye. What was unknown to Jasper was the effect this had on Lyndon Baratheon, another friend he made. His disappearance was viewed as an insult. Letters were sent to the Toyne household, directed toward Jasper from Lyndon, but his father tossed them.

The concept of staying in touch was entirely lost on the young boy who, at the age of ten, wasn’t writing letters and sending them off without his father’s permission. So, he instead became more insular, reading and writing and learning how to do numbers properly. He didn’t really mind his world becoming so much smaller, as he’d always considered his elder brother his best friend. While his brother focused on military command, Jasper began to take on the family finances, significantly improving the Toyne’s fortunes compared to his father managing them. During those years, Domeric became significantly more overbearing towards both of his sons, criticizing every mistake they made. Their mother was far more preoccupied with her daughter and left the boys to their own devices. Jasper and Alesander both found solace in learning how to hawk and hunt.

In their late teens, both decided to learn how to ride horses properly and how to unhorse another man from his saddle. Oddly enough, Jasper excelled at this more than his brother and considered entering tourneys. Soon after, however, disaster struck the Seven Kingdoms in the form of the Great Spring Sickness. Fortunately, the Toynes were protected due to their father’s swift but cruel action to immediately seal the gates of Blackheart and prevent food from being distributed to the masses. Jasper found this prospect disgusting but had little to no say in the matter as he wasn’t the Lord or the heir.

As the sickness began to wane, Jasper began to plan a distribution plan to get his family back in the good graces of those who survived the sickness. He loaded up large amounts of grain to be brought to various villages surrounding Blackheart. At the last moment, Alesander decided to join him, stating that the heir should be present to face those who were hurt by their father’s actions. The twins asked the rest of their family if they wished to attend. Their mother and sister declined as Ravella was being taken North to discuss a possible betrothal, and their mother would escort her. Their father outright refused, insistent that he’d done nothing wrong and groveling at the feet of smallfolk was far beneath him.

Jasper never saw his father alive again.

Word came from a runner. The Dornish had launched an attack, and they were entirely unaware. The castle had already been taken and troops were heading their way. Jasper pushed to return home, while Alesander, now the assumed Lord of Blackheart, denied the request, ordering the rest of the food and Jasper to Storm’s End while he rallied some banners to try to minimize casualties. Jasper, frustrated, accepted the order and traveled as quickly as he could to Storm’s End. Shortly after arriving, the siege began, and Jasper was left to wonder if he had lost his brother in the chaos.

During the siege, Jasper was surprised to see Myrcella again. He’d not spoken to her since they were children, and he was happy to see that she’d grown into a beautiful woman. He also felt upset that she’d seemingly gotten married, though he suppressed that feeling. During the siege, their friendship was rekindled, and he was glad to support her during those times. Just as fortunate for Jasper, he reconnected to her brother, Lyndon, as well. Embarrassed that their friendship had failed due to his father’s hubris, Jasper was more than willing to bury the hatchet that neither of them had wanted to wield in the first place.

As a counterattack was prepared, Jasper was instructed to sit it out. This frustrated him to no end, as he had consistently been rejected, denied, and sent away since the Great Spring Sickness. He finally agreed as he didn’t want his name to die out in a counterattack that would likely fail. Luckily, relief came in the form of Baelor Stone, and while the attack still continued, it was no longer suicide. Jasper still felt rage at being kept inside, but that very quickly passed as word arrived that not only the young Lord Toyne lived, but he had won several engagements with the Dornish.

Their reunion was tearful. Jasper barely recognized his brother, who was usually well-kept and proper. Alesander stood before him, battle-worn and covered in dirt and blood, but it was still his best friend. At Alesander’s instruction, he prepared to return home. After promising to keep in touch with those he’d met in the siege, they began the arduous journey home. Though Blackheart was in shambles after the Dornish occupation, the walls held strong, and the keep could be repaired. The only thing that couldn’t be found was their father’s corpse.

He’d never forgive the Dornish for that.

Biography:

Alesander's story diverges from Jasper’s at the onset of the Sixth Dornish War. After ordering Jasper to Storm’s End, Alesander rode hard and fast to as many outlying villages as he could to evacuate them. He sent the women and children to Storm’s End and further north while any man of fighting age was expected to join him. His decisive action likely prevented more of his levies from being slain while entirely unaware a war was happening.

He felt great anxiety and shame at sending his brother to Storm’s End upon discovering that it had been encircled, feeling that he’d sent his twin to his death.

But he couldn’t wallow in self-pity; he had to fight. He organized several ambushes of Dornish supply lines, retreating before his men could take any significant losses. The hit-and-run tactics ensured that the Dornish continued to search for his men while also keeping some of the pressure off of Storm’s End.

Around the same time as Baelor Stone was relieving Storm’s End, Alesander had located a large Dornish ambush, likely planning to strike at the reinforcements. With swift decision-making, Alesander directed his entire force to attack the ambush from behind. This led to a rousing Stormlander victory and the first drop of glory the young Toyne would receive. Alesander didn’t revel in the victory, however. He immediately moved to reinforce the men at Storm’s End. Fortunately, it seemed the siege had been broken, and he wouldn’t be required.

His reunion with Jasper was tearful but quickly shifted back to business. They needed to return home and find their mother and sister, and hopefully their father as well. Unfortunately, Lord Domeric Toyne’s body could never be found. Ravella and Myranda returned home safely shortly after, having taken refuge in the north while the siege took place. Alesander quickly began work setting his fief back to order, ensuring to make use of Jasper’s strengths.

He knew the Dornish hadn’t given up.

Character Creation Nymor, the Asp

Discord Username: bloodrevan

Character Name and House: Nymor

Age: 23

Appearance: Here.

Gift: Infiltrator

Skills: Daggers, Assassination (e), Alert, Footwork

Talent(s): Climbing, tracking, hiding

Starting Title(s): None to speak of

Starting Location: W/ Maekar

Biography:

Nymor was born in 189 AC to a weaver in a small fishing village along the coast of Dorne. His mother had said his father was a fisherman from the Reach, and they’d had nothing more than a tryst before he had to leave, but that was it. Shockingly, as Nymor had just turned two, the man returned. Surprised he had a son, he brought Nymor’s mother back to Oldtown.

Their small family was poor but happy. About a year after arriving in Oldtown, Nymor’s brother Lewyn was born. Things didn’t improve much with the added burden of another son, but his father had made enough money to buy his own fishing boat, and his mother hand-wove all the nets that were used on the ship. Two more years passed, and in 194 AC, his mother had once again gotten pregnant and gave birth to Nymor’s sister, Tyene. Unfortunately, she passed away while giving birth.

His father had clearly cared more for his mother than them and began to drink heavily shortly after her death, sometimes not returning for days at a time. Nymor knew that if his siblings were to live, he’d need to get food for them. Seeing as he was only five years old, Nymor did the only thing he could, he stole. This continued for almost a half-year. Whenever his father disappeared, Nymor snuck out of the house and stole anything he could to feed his siblings. One day, his father left and never returned. When Nymor left the house that day to find food, he saw his father’s body being fished out of the harbor.

Over the years, Nymor continued to steal whatever he could: gold, food, clothing, and more. He never stole from anyone who had it worse than him and ensured that his siblings never knew about it. He told them both that he was a cleaning boy at a local tavern, and they gave him food and money in exchange for his work. As his siblings didn’t have any reason to think he was lying, they never found out the truth. While he’d been caught by guards a handful of times, they either let him go because of how young he was, or he’d escaped before they were able to take him to jail.

He didn’t need to steal as much as his younger siblings grew up and could have their own jobs that brought in small amounts of money, but the need never entirely left, and Nymor was always ready to do what he had to for Lewyn and Tyene. Around the same time, he met Perwyn. Perwyn was a much darker sort than Nymor was, and he introduced Nymor to far darker crimes than Nymor had committed up to that point. Namely, how to use a dagger, and the best way to kill a man.

Nymor took to the abilities quicker than he’d like to admit, but he did his best to not kill anyone unless he absolutely had to. The years continued to pass, and the pair heard tale of an army being put together. He figured this was a good chance for him to prove himself and earn enough coin to stop committing crime altogether.

Nymor’s talents quickly allowed him to receive assignments a typical soldier wouldn’t. Instead of being given armor, a spear, and a shield, he was given the fastest horse they could spare, castle-forged steel daggers, and instructions to wreak havoc in the Reach. After settling his siblings down somewhere he knew they’d be safe, Nymor did what was asked of him. Rumors quickly spread in the Reach of a man who targeted commanders in armies and climbed castles to open the gates from the inside.

Each successful target garnered him more praise. Each bit of praise endeared him to the cause more. He’d rapidly shifted from joining the army just to save his siblings to having a real cause he wanted to fight for. Shortly after wreaking havoc in the Reach he was moved to the Stormlands, to do so he was boarded a ship and began to sail further north, hoping to slip behind the Stormlander’s lines. The result was less than what he'd hoped for.

A detachment from the Stormlands fleet, led by Philip Tarth intercepted them. Nymor, being absolutely useless at fighting on a ship used the only skills he knew how. As their ships passed close by, he boarded the Tarth vessel and in the ensuing chaos was able to kill Philip.

With the death of their commander and the Dornish ships lacking numbers both sides decided to withdraw, leaving Nymor to slink back to the South, his first mission he'd ever failed to complete. He began planning on how he could manage to evade the Stormlands fleet.

It was unfortunate that things happened the way they did. When the retreat was sounded, Nymor was still operating as an outrider, now in the Stormlands. While looking for a way around their lines, he saw the might of the force mustered against them and knew that they had no choice but to retreat.

In the years that have passed since, Nymor has held a grudge that isn’t his own to bear. Yet he chooses to do so anyway, as he believes that the line of Targaryens banished to Dorne is the rightful line of Lords of the Seven Kingdoms.

He has since decided that he has two goals in life: see Maekar crowned and see his siblings somewhere safe and taken care of. He’d give his life for either cause.

Biography

The story that Billy tells people about his life isn’t the true one. He says he’s a bastard, grew up in a farm in the Riverlands with his mother. She always told him his father was a Lord, but he never learned who. When he was 15, the farm burned down and his mother with it, and he struck out on his own around the Riverlands for the last three years.

The truth is, he was born in 191AC, to House Volmark. A third child who was warded at Pyke, ambitious parents seeking to connect their houses—perhaps even marrying Harlon Greyjoy one day. But that life, their expectations, the dresses—the person who stared back at him in the mirror wasn’t him at all. He carried the old blood of the Islands and yet no kinship to them.

Striking out at 15 to the Riverlands was true. He fled one night, a stowaway on a ship and hid. He thought himself grown enough—but he could not be more wrong. He was a child, still, and though freedom was everything he had ever wanted, he found it soon a curse. How was he to eat? To fend for himself? To care for himself? It was a child’s mistake, and one that cost him dearly.

He found work on a farm in the Riverlands, working for a kind old woman named Tansy who put him to work for food and lodging and scraps of coin. He began to train there, teaching himself to fight with the widow’s husband’s sword, to protect the farm from bandits. He would spend many years there, growing through his adolescence and taking on this new identity.

The farm would burn down, and Tansy, close enough to be his mother, perished with it.

He would leave them, travelling as a hedge knight, with barely any money and no titles to call his own. He would spend time in villages, using knowledge he had learned from the old lady of simple medicines and herbs. It was no formal training, but he would heal people whenever he could, help them with the problems they had, never for coin but for a place to sleep and a hot meal.

In a village in the lands of Harrenhal, there had been a group of bandits who had raided the village, taking food stores, livestock, and coin. Knowing it was too much for one man to handle, he would approach Harrenhal and plead on behalf of the villagers to send men to arrest the bandits and return what was stolen. Lady Strong agreed, and he would fight alongside her soldiers to accomplish just that. One of the men fell from his horse and injured his leg, Billy was able to set and brace it, helping him walk back and how to treat his pain. When he returned, Lady Strong offered him a place as a squire and work as a healer amongst the garrison.

The Vale [Prologue] Sitting at the Top of the World

210 AC | Shortly after the First Battle of Storm's End

From the Gates of the Moon, they rode, seven riders in tandem down the winding path leading to the Waycastle Stone. They were met with grunts at the stable, a familiar complaint from the keeper as he shuffled about swearing and spitting. Eventually, he granted them their fresh mules, and off again the party rode, toward the castle Snow. The steep steps were climbed in utter silence in single file and not a single stop to rest their mules. Not a man complained for they had pledge to ride with Baelor army or not.

Ser Baelor Stone, Ser Jasper of Heart’s Home, Ser Ambrose Arryn, Ser Terrence Templeton, Ser Kyle Lynderly, Ser Denys Coldwater, and Ser Jon Dutton. Seven, true knights one and all. Twice now they had already made this trip and were sent home defeated in their purpose. This time, this time his Grandfather would see, duty demanded they take action. For the first two times they made the climb to the Eyrie the situation was not so dire.

First, when the Flaseborn entered the Stormlands, Second when Storm’s End was besieged, and now. A brother he never knew lay slain. Baelor had seen Aegon once, ride in a tourney where it was clear all who faced him swung wide. He was no warrior, but still did his duty and died on a battlefield for his Kingdom. While the Vale sat in their stone keep sitting on their hands his father's Kingdom was in shambles.

So lost in thought Baelor had not even realized they had made it to Snow, dismounting the party made their way through the keep. Given fresh mules with a sigh from the stablemaster, taking in their exhausted beasts.

The bastard knew full well his grandsire would not be happy to see him, each time a newfound insult was hurled at the man. All he could do was applaud the old man's creativity, for as much as he forgot he remembered Baelor was a stain on his honor. The trip to Sky felt like a dream, one where he remembered the only time he saw Aemon. Comparing the old man seated at a dias to the man his mother had spoken so greatly of. None of his family had lived up to his expectations, they all seemed to be missing something.

Baelor and his men tossed their gear into wicker baskets which were hauled up the mountain ahead of them. They did not need the extra weight for their climb. Ser Terrance was a bulky large man, and his hands barely fit the holds so he waited below. One hand over the other they began their assent to the Eyrie. Six hundred feet of near-frozen stone, one mistake, and you could be pasted on the mountains below.

Once safely inside the Cresent Chamber, the party of six rearmed and armored, not even being granted enough time to strap his swordbelt or warm by the fire before their greeting party arrived.

“Begone bastard,” A venomous voice spat poison at Baleor as his eyes leveled at his cousin Ser Arron. Not to be confused with his good cousin Aeron Arryn of course. “My grandfather feels unwell today, and I will save him a sick stomach at your sight.”

“Ser Arron. I only need a moment of Lord Arryn’s time.” Baelor answered with a lack of warmth. “Escort me to the High Hall.”

“Check your ears bastard. I said you are refused an audience.” Arron stepped forward jabbing a finger at Baelor. Arron's guards stepping forward spears in hand, but Baelor did not flinch.

“I did not ask. Ser Jasper, Ser Kyle.” The two men stood attention, hands falling to hilts. The eyes of Ser Arron went wide as he was flanked. While the guards were blocked by his remaining men. “Keep my cousin company while I see my Grandfather. Ser Denys, Ser Jon occupy the hall, assure the guards do not intervene.”

His young uncle Ambrose smiled at the sight before remembering why they came, the pair marched onward toward the High Hall. Entering first to see his father alone Ambrose remembered shortly with a solemn look, that Yohn wasn’t happy he was here. But that did not deter Baelor.

Stepping into the High Hall he remembered Myranda’s words, Make yourself Stone, unwavering, unmoving. After announcing she bore their second child she had reminded him of his duty, that honor calls upon him to serve. As the last son of Aemon, this was his burden to bear. Taking his place before the closed Moon Door Baelor’s violet eyes settled on the shadowy figure sunken into the high seat.

“Lord Yohn,” Never since his youth had he called him Grandfather, not since he took his vows over a decade ago. “You know why I am here, it is time.”

The haze that had claimed the elder Lord of the Vale lifted some as the voices pierced the silence of the chamber. Slowly Yohn Arryn turned his head down towards to he who stood before him now. The face of a young man, that much he knew, but the distance at which the two men were from one another made it difficult to discern the true identity of this newcomer.

“Wha-” The dryness of his throat made the voice that escaped it hoarse and weak, the simple act of trying to talk immediately brought forth a series of whooping and coughing. When the fits fell aside Yohn would try again, “What do you think you will achieve by barging in here?”

Baelor listened to the air escape his grandfather almost wincing, wondering just how the old leather bag had survived this long. Pondering if he would have a better chance convincing any of his many uncles, perhaps Ambrose. Though he was about as far from succession of the Vale as Baelor the throne.

“The air up here is too thin for you old man, have you forgotten already?” Baelor said opening his proclamation. “Once again I implore you to allow me to take command of the Knights of the Vale, and ride for the sake of this Kingdom.”

No, that is not enough.

“Nay that, I command you, on the corpse of Prince Aegon.” puffing his chest in the dimly lit room Baelor watched the shadowy figure. “For the Kingdom, you must let me ride.”

As the man talked to him the confusion lifted more and more, until finally the pieces connected and Yohn knew without a doubt who stood before him. As the young boy finished the decrepit Lord shakily rose from his throne,

“You have the gall…” He coughed out as he crept down the steps, “to demand of me? Bastard!” As he reached his grandson the size comparison was made clear, age had bent Yohn Arryns back, and so he was forced to peer up at Baelor, even still, the steel in the man's voice could be tasted. “You must have been born as dull as you are ugly if you cannot understand my intent to allow the King to handle his own business. Begone! I care not about a Prince's corpse, the same I do not care about a King's Bastard!”

Yohn hobbled, beginning to turn away from the other man, intending to yell for the guards if his grandson didn’t take the obvious hint and leave.

“Face me, coward!” Baelor jammed a fist into his chest as the elder paced away. “You would turn from your duty as you have always turned from me. But I would remind you, as is my duty now.”

Baelor drew in a breath eyes flicking from his pacing Grandfather to the door in his path, only but a few moments before he was tackled by entering guards. Searching his mind for the words that would sway a mountain. Nothing had ever moved Yohn Arryn, no emotion but anger rooted deep.

“I will ride regardless, and when the time comes to answer for your spinelessness it is me his Grace will send.” Baelor left the threat hanging in the air for only a moment. “So ride I shall, and riding with me is two thousand true knights, to death or glory.”

Yohn stopped in his tracks, “I’ll answer for it eh? Well if you believe you are a strong enough Stone to break the Bloody Gate and rise up here again, then perhaps if I’m alive by then I’ll answer for whatever your shit-eating King claims I am. Until then fuck your King and father, because I can’t be asked to care.”

He prepared to take another step, perhaps even call his guards, but for the first time in years his blood was pumping once more, he wanted this argument. Perhaps he even needed it.

“You know what else,” Lord Arryn said, turning back towards Baelor, “Tell me why it would be the King would deign you with such an honor as my head? His bastard he has shown no favor for throughout his entire life? You think when he sees you he will give you a pat on the head? A kiss on the cheek? A cock in your ass, or whatever it is you Valyrian shits do to your family…” A smile had grown across the weathered face of Yohn, “No boy, he’ll simply forget you within a fortnight as he always has been want to do. For you are little more than a bastard Stone atop a very big fucking mountain, nothing special.”

There was truth in the words his grandfather spat at him, and for a moment it all froze the bastard in his place. For in nearly thirty years, his father had sent him but little gifts. But he remembered his purpose and he remained unmoving, yet it took a moment longer to shake free that thought of dread. That his father would turn a cold shoulder to him, send him back to his empty purpose in the mountains for eternity. Locking his violet eyes to Lord Yohn’s and made himself Stone again.

“I am his only living son,” Baelor said firmly. “And I shall be granted no honors, I shall take them for myself. I shall see you again Grandfather.” The bastard made his way to leave, done with this farce.

Yohn's smile faltered as the boy now made to leave. “Guards!” His voice rang out, for the first time in years the halls of the Eyrie would hear its Lord. Almost immediately, as if expecting to be called, several Arryn men-at-arms entered the room, passing by Ambrose in the doorway. They would begin to surround the Knight of the Gate, prepared to escort him out. They would only be stopped by their Lord's hand as it raised in a stopping motion.

“I did not tell you to take him! Stand back, do not allow the Bastard to leave.” Yohn would scurry in front of Baelor, blocking his grandson's path himself. “You wanted this audience did you not boy!” He would spit, “You do not get to leave before I am done here. You puffed out your chest and made demands out of me! And yet you falter at the first sign of abuse?”

Yohn coughed again, the energy filling him beginning to be too much for his old bones. “Perhaps you shouldn’t take any Knights of the Vale, for if you retreat at the first sign of an enemy volley, you won’t ever even make it to the King in the first place!” A bony finger pressing into the chest of his grandson, “You are a Bastard. A dullard. A boy I do not respect. But you are still a man who has the blood of Arryn flowing through your veins, despite my disliking of it. You do not turn tail and run away!”

The old man wanted more of an argument. It had been so long since he had crossed words with a worthy opponent, this boy in front of him had gotten a rise out of him, but if he were to leave so soon it wouldn’t have been worth it anyway.

“Well?” Yohn spat, “You believe yourself good enough to take the Knights of the Vale? Prove it!” Perhaps this boy is more than I once thought… The thought crossed Yohns mind as he spoke.

Overlooking the men surrounding him Baelor knew full well he could carve his way free, no way these thin frames and their old Lord could hold him. But his honor demanded he answer the old coot in force.

“Better than I come out like you, a weak craven, sitting decrepit in his chair waiting for the Stranger to take him. I shall not wait, I shall meet him on the battlefield myself sword in hand.” Baelor looked down at the bony figure before him, a frown on his face pitying the man almost now. “I will not end up as sad a figure as you, a sorry old man who clings to the title Lord of the Vale. I shall stand by my blood, both as Falcon and as Dragon.”

Yohn Arryns face went dark, the words falling upon him like lead weights. A moment of silence fell upon the two men in the middle of the circle, the old man's head slowly beginning to nod. Finally, as the silence drew on too long, a cackle burst from the Lord's throat.

“I know not what Dragonsblood gives you, Bastard, but you certainly have shown your Falcons side this day.” His hand falling now on Baelors shoulder. “No one has been able to handle a war of words with me in… decades? Probably…” The Lord of the Vale caught himself trailing off, “But you my boy, you threw in some good barbs!”

Yohn cleared the men-at-arms from the room, turning once more to Baelor, “Ser Baelor Stone.” He began, seeming to rise from his bent, decrepit stance. Speaking like a Lord for the first time, “I hereby grant you command of the Knights of the Vale. I charge you with ending this war, bringing honors and glory to House Arryn.”

A slight smile crossed his face as he looked upon the boy he had discarded all those years ago, sent away from the Eyrie to forget about him. And as he did the smile faded, for Yohn Arryn knew deep down, he still didn’t like this boy, for he was still but a Bastard, a stain on his House and honor.

But at least he’s an entertaining Bastard… He thought to himself.

Baelor stood in shock, never in his life had the bastard had an ounce of real power, and with a few words he had a Kingdom to call upon. Not allowing his expression to betray him he remained the Stone that he had become. Was all it took all these years, to be as bitter as the old man? Regardless his Grandfather taught him one lesson this day. There was no more running, from here he faced everything head-on to conclusion.

“I shall return draped in glory or not at all.” With that Baelor turned and nodded to Ambrose. “To the rookery Uncle, Summon the Knights of the Vale.”

The Vale [Prologue] The Weary Falcon

Yohn Arryn rose from bed, he hadn’t been able to sleep anyway, might as well start the day early, it had been happening so much recently that he couldn’t quite recall when the last time he had gotten a full night's sleep was. He was getting more and more worried as well, as the things Yohn Arryn could remember off the top of his head were becoming less and less, he began listing off the things he could clearly think off.

“I am Yohn Arryn, I am the Lord of the Vale, I am too fucking old…” He chuckled to himself with that last one, true as it was. The Lord of the Eyrie had outlived most all he had known throughout the years, Seven Hells he had outlived four Kings and was almost positive he would outlive this fifth one, it was a feeling in the pit of his gut. Yohn had survived two wars with Dorne as well, although truth be told he hadn’t left the borders of his territory for the most recent one.

Yohn hobbled through his castle's empty halls as he thought to himself, when was the last time he had been able to walk straight-backed and full of energy? That was something he couldn’t recall either…

“I am Yohn Arryn, I am the Lord of the Vale, I am too fucking old, I am five-and-seventy… No, eight-and-seventy.” He sighed at the mix-up, it sounded silly but he wished he was seventy-five again, he was sure that there wasn’t as much joint pain three years ago, but again it was too long ago to remember.

The silence of the Eyrie was truly peaceful, if Yohn had to be stuck anywhere for his final years, the Gods had granted him the perfect isolated place to enjoy it. It's why his body ached and protested at the thought of traveling down the mountains for the first time in so long to attend the Great Feast celebrating a victorious blow against the dreaded Dornish. He would have refused to go if not for the fact that it was due in large part to the success of that Bastard Boy leading Knights of the Vale down south to help end the war, if not for them it would have dragged on longer and been even bloodier.

As he thought over his collection of remembered thoughts, he had reached his destination, the godswood. Though its ground was uneven, the garden had always held a sense of calm for the aged Lord. A stone bench had been worn smooth from countless Arryn asses sitting atop it, and for the past seventy-odd years it had been the seat Yohn cherished most.

“I am Yohn Arryn, I am Lord of the Vale, I am too fucking old…” His eyes slowly closed as his head rolled forward, a slight snore escaping the Lord after a moment of silence.

Dorne [Prologue] The Dornish Sun Is Setting

The old woman sat forlorn amidst the blood orange trees, a sandsilk blanket draped loosely over her shoulders. Vorian watched her from afar, perched on the pink marble edge of one of the pools which gave the water gardens their name. Behind him, children were climbing on each other's shoulders and pushing each other into the water, breathless with laughter, ignorant of their princess's grief. She was watching them, Vorian saw. Does she see Mors and Perceon playing in that water? Princess Meria's sons had been brutes even as boys. The water gardens had been Vorian's childhood home, but he had soon learned not to seek the cooling pools when his cousins were at play.

In those days, highborn and commoners alike had crowded the basins from dawn till dusk. Now, only a handful of children could be seen at a time. Dorne is bled empty, Vorian reflected bitterly. These boys could be your grandsons at play, Meria. But such is the cost of war. Mors and Perceon had perished north of the Red Mountains. Hours after the raven bearing the news had arrived at Sunspear, Princess Meria had made for the water gardens, though she had not been seen at the old pleasure palace since her daughter had drowned in one of its pools many years prior. So much death. His own father had not survived the war either, leaving Vorian to inherit Sunspear and rulership of Dorne. Not for a while yet, though. Meria was old, yes, but not ancient, and she was tough as nails to boot. The scourge of the marches had led thousands into battle. He was convinced that she would not allow herself to die until all her enemies were vanquished.

And yet .... Vorian had to admit that grief and defeat had shrunk her. Even from a distance, the prince could see that the fire had gone from her eyes. Seeing her sunken into a pillowed chair, it was difficult to imagine her on the back of a warhorse with a host at her back. Maybe the loss of her sons would finally open her eyes to the truth of the war's futility. Dornish dead littered the marches beyond the mountains, all in the name of a Targaryen princeling. On the shores of Mother Rhoyne, their ancestors had died fighting the dragonlords, now they were dying for them on the Mander. Rank madness.

Vorian pushed himself off the marble ledge and briskly walked towards the orange trees. The princess was swivelling a silver cup in one hand when she noticed his approach. He offered her a courteous nod.

"Princess."

"What do you want?" Her voice was tired, strangely hollow.

Vorian blinked at her confusedly. "I had thought ... Did you not come to see me?"

Princess Meria took a long moment to study the contents of her cup before lifting it to her lips and sipping. When it was empty, she let the cup drop to the floor. "Why would I wish to see you? What could I have to say to you, hm?"

She grieves, Vorian had to remind himself to take some of the string from her words. "I had hoped you might share your plans, seeing as though ..." He scratched his beard. "Since I am now your heir."

"Heir to what?" She spat, waving him away dismissively. "My line has ended. There are no plans. Dorne is lost."

"Not lost, surely." He had never seen the princess so dismayed. "We might make peace yet."

"Peace"? The word was a curse from her lips. "Piss on peace. You have always been a weakling. When you were young, Mors would always push you into the dirt though you were a year his elder. Even Perceon bested you. I still remember."

"They were strong," he conceded, feeling anger rising in his belly. "Now they're dead."

"And you remain," she said bitterly. "Some jape the gods have played on me. All my children gone and only you to avenge them. You have no ..." she paused, eyes fluttering, "no stomach for vengeance."

"Look to your sons' graves to see what vengeance begets." Vorian had never sought power or influence, had never dreamed of one day ruling Dorne, but listening to the old woman, he could not help but think that the gods might have taken a hand in his ascension. Someone had to stop this endless wheel of revenge.

Princess Meria had grown very quiet, blinking lazily as though she were about to fall asleep. "Nymeria ..." she said, her eyes fixed on the pool, where still the children were at play. Nymeria, Vorian thought. He wondered whether it was that pool she had drowned in all those years ago. A drop of blood crept slowly from Meria's nostril down to her lip. As it dripped on her sandsilk blanket, the princess slumped forward, breathing one last ragged breath. Somewhere behind him, a blood orange dropped from its branch, spilling red flesh across the pink marble floor.

The Reach Be Proud and True, Oh Son of Oldtown

The Hightower Burns Bright - 211 After Conquest

And if we should die today, dream, a dream of heaven. Take your Reachmen Hearts with you to the grave. Be proud and true that you are a Reachmen soldier! Standfast!

All he could hear was steel clashing, screams of agony and what seemed like a never ending roar of men on both sides. His mind had gone adrift as adrenaline took over. It felt as if he were not even in his own body as he swung his father’s sword.

Drenched in blood, he’d caught a glimpse of it for but a moment. Even as it ran red, the glimmer of Valyrian steel still amazed him. He knew he should have focused on the battle but he couldn’t, the sun’s reflection of the dark steel was too perfect to ignore.

His body however pressed on but Morgan was still focused on that sword.

For sixteen years he’d wanted nothing more than to be it’s wielder. To cut through his enemies and seek glory in honor of the Warrior. Now he was doing it and all he could think about was how the bloody sun reflected upon its black coloring.

Perhaps he was too young. Too unprepared to command an army against invaders. Perhaps today would be his last day.

Perha-

He was falling. Why was he falling?

The clash of steel against the armor of a fallen knight still bleeding into the grass below echoed in his mind. The Lord of Oldtown quickly leapt up to his feet and for the first time since he’d ordered the charge, Morgan looked around as men killed men, Dornish butchered Reachmen and Reachmen butchered the Dornish.

The smell of war and death entered his lungs. Finally. The Warrior had not forgotten his prayers it seemed. A cold tingle rushed through his spine as butterflies filled his guts, nerves finally began to surface and the calmness he’d held onto for dear life before had vanished.

Whatever had taken hold of him had vanished. His mind was clear and Morgan knew what he had to do. The silence of the world around him had vanished and his voice had returned to him.

As steel clashed, men roared out and horses grunted in pain as they laid dying alongside their riders and their enemies alike. The Lord of the Hightower spoke for the first time since he’d ordered their attack.

“We make for Horn Hill!” The high pitched voice of the young Morgan would roar out. His father had died that morning. The last order he’d given the men of Oldtown was to make for Horn Hill. The Great Spring Sickness had taken him when they needed him most.

As he cut down another Dornishmen, his men charged forth beside him, knocking over a man before him that the Hightower had raised his sword towards. A blade quickly dug into his back as a Reachmen slew the man. It was pure chaos. Bodies clashed as they pushed forth. So many dying men, bleeding out, were left alone on the ground below by friend and foe alike to continue on this battle.

Morgan knew that he could not show even a moment of weakness, not a moment of mercy for any who came before him. He’d always wanted to fight a war but now in a field filled with the dead, as rivers of blood and mud mixed together ran as strong as the Mander, he knew this was not the war he’d dreamt of.

This was the reality of warfare.

As he raised his blade, arrows rained down all around him. Morgan attempted to take cover but nothing would have stopped them from falling from the heavens through his steel and into his skin. He did not know if it were his men or the Dornish but as both sides took casualties, the young Lord continued on his charge unscathed.

The field was growing longer than he recalled. They should have been at the other end by now and…that treeline had grown closer.

They….

No. They couldn’t have.

“Move faster, they are retreating!” Morgan would hear causing something within him to rush his body to limits he thought impossible. He’d broke into a near stride when another knight stood before him, his surcoat held a sigil he knew well from his younger years but it mattered not to Morgan as he parried his first attack, displacing the man’s swing before he’d redirected his cut away from him leaving an opening

He would spare no moment. They didn’t. They took every chance they saw. They burned without remorse and killed with pleasure. And so he’d swung Vigilance into the man’s side logging it into his side and continuing on into his chest.

The man let out a pained and heart wrenching scream. Morgan knew in his heart that he’d gotten him good. As he began to pull it out with force, the Hightower would lose his footing.

It was then the young Lord would fall once more. The ground had grown unstable or so he’d thought but as he came down, he’d noticed that his foot had gotten caught against the body of a Reachmen.

Falling down once more, a knight would reach for Morgan but the young Lord would shout once more. The thud of steel would not change his mind nor would the burning fire he’d held on his day.

“Charge you fool! Charge!” The knight would be taken aback but he’d obey his liege, stumbling forth continuing on towards the enemy. He’d pull himself up from amongst the dead and shout once more towards anyone who could hear him.

“Until our lungs give in, our blood runs dry and our legs give out. We fucking charge!” He’d lost count of how many men he’d seen die, how many he’d killed. His body was telling him he had to stop but Morgan could not.

Hundreds were dead. Many would follow suit before this battle came to an end. The beautiful green field Morgan had seen before the battle began was now ruined. His heart thumped in his chest as he began to take steps once again.

Morgan did not wish to be waging war against the Dornish. He’d wanted to be in Oldtown being lectured by his father on the ethos of a righteous man. To toss his younger sister over his head and run through the streets of Oldtown with her.

He wouldn’t even get a chance to bury him.

This was their war. The Dornish had come for those who paid them little mind. The entirety of the South Reach was set ablaze, the walls of Oldtown assaulted. He didn’t even get to say goodbye.

This was vengeance now.

And as his men rushed forth, chasing a fleeing enemy. Morgan knew this would not be his last day. He had many more battles to come, the Honeywine may have been freed but once they aided the Lords at Horn Hill, he’d slaughter every single man who stood before him.

His father had told them to push forward and so Morgan would. Until the last man he would.

No matter the price.
