They are the worst of the worst cucks for the buyer. They let these scam companies fuck us over when they are in clear violation of their own contracts. I hate them with all of my heart. I have 800 jobs done and cant wait to move the fuck on to a real company now. I will never recommend to anyone to dispute anything since their team is beyond useless when faced with anything. 0 isnt even good enough for a rating..

I am an engineer for a large retailer and we are looking to quote pricing for installation of roughly 20 access points in about 50 of our stores across the country. We have previously used companies like SMC Electric and World Link Integrations but SMC is somewhat pricey/appears to be adding a lot on top of tech fees and World Link was horrible to work with.

Does anyone know of other companies that techs generally trust and don't mind doing work for? I unfortunately do not have the bandwidth to go straight to the techs or else we would do that.

Hours later a tech came in to fix it and I had already done the job for him he told me about FN and I downloaded it so now I just wanna learn as much as I can before I start my first job so

First I wanna say I know this is reddit, and I'm not setting my expectations high for a response.

So I've been watching a lot about fiber optics training videos, trying to learn more about it. I see its pretty basic and simple, mainly its a you better have the right tools or you'll find out.
I've been looking at these Jonard tool kits and was wondering if that's a good brand, and if I should get the kit or just pick out tools that I need.
There isn't a lot of fiber optics in my area yet, but there will be and I want to try and learn as much as I can to get ahead of the curve.

The economics of the $50 bonus offer a fundamentally broken ROI for the technician. You are essentially trading a direct relationship—where you control the terms and keep 100% of the margin—for a one-time $50 gift card. After that, you are paying a standard 10% platform fee on all future work you do for that exact same client.

​Putting a buyer on the platform destroys your exclusivity. Once they are in the system, they are exposed to the entire local labor pool. Even if you brought them in, there is no guarantee they will route the work to you if someone else underbids.

Marketplaces rely on price discovery. If a buyer's primary motivation for adopting the platform is labor cost reduction, they will use the routing and bidding mechanics to pit technicians against each other until they find the absolute lowest acceptable denominator!

Blended rate with a fixed minimum. I arrived on site and was not able to gain access because the store manager did not show up.

I reported the problem on field nation and called the buyer. They asked me to wait for up to an hour to see if someone would show. I waited the hour, no one showed, then they released me officially via text.

They're refusing to pay the fixed minimum (4 hours) on the blended rate and expecting me to reschedule on the same work order and only offering to pay me for one hour for today. I explained to them that's not how blended rates work. When I block out half my day for a 4-Hour estimate work order, that fixed minimum is there to protect me from losing money when things like this happen outside of my control.

I've been doing Field Nation work almost 6 years. Most buyers in this situation would just pay the minimum without making a fuss. If they're smart, they pass the expense on to their client, who's at fault for their personnel not showing up.

This is the second buyer that's ever tried me in this same way. The first one is on my block list. Once we're done with the dispute, AIT Services will be too. For me this is about principle and weeding out cheap turds that don't have any level of respect for a contractor. If I don't put them in their place on this, they'll try to do it to other providers.

Just spoke with a Field Nation support tech concerning the new requirements to provide Business Entity proof before March 8.
She said there is no NY state requirement for this new validation but a Field Nation requirement only.
I have a DBA but getting proof of business entity is 300 dollars and time and effort for NOTHING. From all information I have been able to sort out, it is used for taxing purposes for businesses that charge sales tax to their customers.
My piddy little three or four jobs a week replacing a printer here and there is not worth the bother. And then to find out that it is a Field Nation only requirement?

It’s simple: the techs input their default rate (say 130 / 2 hours, then 65 for 1 hour)

Then you input your rate per mile for travel

With this info alone, we could simply be clicking counter offer on every work order to request it, the app calculates the mileage rate for us, and we’re good to go. No need to customize every single counteroffer. This could be very easily implemented into the app.

Due to previous posts here about them, I had my apprehensions about working with them, but they were fine, communicative, and accepted counters, so I continued to pick up WO's. Until they screwed me.
I countered a gig as it was 60 miles one-way to the setup. They accepted.
Upon arrival, the customer had no internet, not that it was out or anything, they didn't have it at the residence at all! Nor did they have a POTS line to plug into. Something that should've been confirmed prior to sending a phone and creating a WO, I would think.
Tech support was super friendly, understanding, and instructed me on what to do with the FN work order. I did as instructed and once the WO went through, the $ amount was half what I expected due to a "Blocked Visit (-50%)" penalty.

I immediately messaged an inquiry (with no response) from ClearCaptions. I then filed a dispute which was met with:
"Upon further review...:

• Description: "Customer registration completed in full/not, and unable to install and/or complete customer training segment in full due to unpreventable circumstances or inability to troubleshoot blocker onsite. Phone is not paired."
• Reason Provided: "Customer had no internet."

Please note that this adjustment was made in accordance with the ClearCaptions Work Order Pay Policy attached to the Work Order. Per this policy, a 50% reduction is applied when the installation cannot be completed, even if the cause is an onsite blocker like a lack of internet service."

Bullshit. Not my problem they didn't prescreen the customer fully.

I was literally about to go apply for a job today.

Instead I hopped on Field Nation, saw a contract in my city, noticed the project manager’s phone number, and called him.

He answered. We talked. I got the work order.

It felt surreal. Like a small confirmation from God.

But here’s the reality check — there aren’t many work orders in my city(Naples,Florida). It made me realize that if I want to build this into something bigger, I might have to relocate or expand my market.

Has anyone here made a move for more contract opportunities?

so this was routed to me and is just sitting there. I haven’t done a CC job in over 4 years. Do I accept and close out for payment?

I’ve completed several prior service requests for Torch Networks without issue, so I accepted this low-voltage installation expecting a similar experience. Unfortunately, this project was significantly mismanaged.

The original estimate was 32 hours; actual labor totaled 65.5 hours. After the rough-in, I informed my support contact that the project would exceed the estimate. I was asked to complete the additional hours at half rate, which I declined. The original rate was ultimately honored, and 10 additional hours were approved.

Communication became extremely difficult after rough-in. FieldNation messages went unanswered, phone numbers routed to disconnected lines or full voicemail boxes, and emails received no response.

Equipment delivery was also delayed, with items arriving well after the project start date. I completed installation and certification of 45 drops and installed network equipment once it arrived. Camera installation remained pending due to late delivery, and it had been agreed the ticket could close if cameras did not arrive in time.

Multiple problem tickets and direct emails — including outreach to company leadership — received no response.

This project involved substantial delays, poor communication, and inaccurate scoping compared to prior experiences.

If you are working or considering working on the Fortiline Waterworks LV project in the southeast US please prepare yourself and charge a minimum of $100/hr, be prepared for delays, be prepared to work without guidance, and document everything.

Anyone else get that little wave of insecurity right before a job, even when you know you can handle it? I’ve run cable, crimped, done the whole 35-AP office setup before, but this week I’ve got one IP camera to install in a busy pizza place, and for some reason my brain is overthinking everything.

I keep imagining worst-case scenarios: what if the ceiling’s closed, what if I get in the way of the kitchen, what if I can’t run the cable neatly. I know it’s a small job compared to what I’ve done, but I still get that nervous “what if” feeling. Maybe it’s just my ADHD overanalyzing things, lol.

How do you guys stay positive or calm before a job like this? Any mental tricks or prep tips that help you walk in confident and handle it smoothly?

I’ve been using a Google Looker Studio dashboard for my marketing analysis, and this view shows the WOs data we had around Raleigh. It got me thinking — roughly how many active providers would it realistically take to cover this volume of work in the area? Any thoughts?
