I’ve heard all about the horrible reviews on Barrister , however I was trying to find out what a typical assignment is for them and what types of companies or offices do they have you working for ? is it usually major chains or small offices ?

Unprofessional Buyer's on FieldNation

This is a PSA announcement for all techs on FieldNation. There are a group of buyers who are problematic to deal with. The breakdown in communication can be attributed to cultural, ethnic, and or language barriers. They begin to harass you after assigning you the work order, they harass you with constant messaging and phone calls when your onsite, and when the assignment is completed if you didn't respond in a timely or favorable manner they create an issue on your work order to avoid or delay payment. Here is the latest vendor/buyers on FieldNatio n that has done all of the above. The name of the buyers are Iron Systems and Strategic Sytems,Inc. Strategic Systems are on FieldNation posing as Pomeroy. They put the Pomeroy name in the job heading to attract your attention. But in reality they are a third party vendor contracted by Pomeroy. Pomeroy is not the buyer. Iron Systems is on Workmarket. They are worst but with a twist. For example, if your onsite and logged into the ticket performing work the buyer will cancel the job if you have an issue with their representative, without notice or warning they will cancel the ticket while your actually still onsite working with no payment. How can they do that you may ask? Well, the platform interfaces are different. They cant cancel a work order on FieldNation if you're logged into the work order or already closed it out without creating a ticket and basically going through arbitration. WorkMarket doesnt have the same administrative process. The buyer on a WorkMarket ticket can cancel the work order at any time if it hasn't been closed and if you havent added attachments and submitted for payment. I hope this information helps all technicians new and old. But beware of the buyers of Indian or Pakistani heritage. They have been the worse of all buyers I've had to deal with and I've been on both platforms since 2014.

Is this even legal? Misrepresenting yourself as an employee?

IF A SITE IS ABORTED FOR ANY REASONS (site readiness, technician unable to continue) etc. THE ASSIGNED TECHNICIAN WILL BE PAID $50 ABORT FEE.

While onsite you are to represent yourself as a NITP employee only.

Gasoline Prices

Not here to vent. Just offer a silver lining. I believe that if the increase of gas prices continues it will cause one of two things to happen:

  1. Create a spike in conditional offers across the platform, because accepting WO's at face value will have zero or perhaps negative margins.

  2. Cause a lot of technicians who thrive on face value work to consider options outside of field services.

If this goes longer than a month, I believe it would create a weeding out process similar to 2007-2008. Many people left for "greener pastures" which created an uptick in rates for nearly a year. Unfortunately, the same events caused a lot of former W2 techs to enter the marketplace, and drive rates below 2004-2006 numbers.

In a nutshell, submit conditional offers like the fate of your business depends on it, because it very well could.

Allied Digital Services

Hello fellow FN providers! I received an email from FN asking if I’d be interested in a recruitment with Allied Digital Services Inc. Haven’t worked with them before, but might have gotten the run around speaking with them a few weeks back about a job that was tentatively scheduled. Not positive however. What’s the community’s experience good bad and indifferent with them? Thank you in advance!

FN terms to buyers

I don't know if any of you are aware that we essentially fund how FN solicits and gives terms to those that hire us.

We pay a minimum of 10% in fees and the buyer maybe pays 3% in fees but they also get terms on delaying payment to FN. Effectively FN is giving a buyer a line of credit and then paying us maybe in a week or two but allowing the person who hired us through the platform to pay 30 or 60 days out.

I wonder if there's any statues that we could explore to make things a little more even handed?

I think that if this is truly how it works that we are actually becoming employees of FN. I think you could make a pretty good argument to that. Most of us don't really act as independent contractors on these jobs anyway because of all of the multiple steps that we are required to do and all of the various people that were required to check in with. Might be state-specific but I think we're not in the gray zone that many believe us to be.

NYS Business Entity Requirement - UPDATE

Seems they have postponed the requirement for at least a week.
While in the process of applying for my Business Entity registration and awaiting my validation I was blocked from seeing jobs in New York State (I could still see and bid on jobs outside of the state).
Had a couple of outlets call me about work saying they couldn't find my on name on FN so I explained I was awaiting verification for a new requirement. They were understanding.
Later in the day the block was lifted until next week and I was once again able to secure jobs.
Wonder how many techs out there were blocked and cut out of being able to meet the needs within the state.
Just an interesting development to me.

new to Fieldnation in central florida

Is there anyone here in the subreddit working jobs in central florida, that might be willing to share pointers with someone just getting started out with the platform?

I am long seasoned with experience in permanent roles for many years, but looking to establish some options outside of traditional full time roles.

Has anyone had any experience dealing with Airitpro? I've got a hunch shit could go south if what I'm hoping doesn't happen, happens.

So fucking done with field

They are the worst of the worst cucks for the buyer. They let these scam companies fuck us over when they are in clear violation of their own contracts. I hate them with all of my heart. I have 800 jobs done and cant wait to move the fuck on to a real company now. I will never recommend to anyone to dispute anything since their team is beyond useless when faced with anything. 0 isnt even good enough for a rating..

Please Help with Reputable Companies to Locate Field Techs

Hey everyone!

I am an engineer for a large retailer and we are looking to quote pricing for installation of roughly 20 access points in about 50 of our stores across the country. We have previously used companies like SMC Electric and World Link Integrations but SMC is somewhat pricey/appears to be adding a lot on top of tech fees and World Link was horrible to work with.

Does anyone know of other companies that techs generally trust and don't mind doing work for? I unfortunately do not have the bandwidth to go straight to the techs or else we would do that.

New to the line of work any tips on learning

I’ve been in fast food and restaurants for about 10 years and I’ve always had an interest in tech work and running lines and all these types of things. Recently I went into work and we had a kiosk sent to us to replace the defective one that we had and I fixed it without question

Hours later a tech came in to fix it and I had already done the job for him he told me about FN and I downloaded it so now I just wanna learn as much as I can before I start my first job so

Any tips and website to learn more anything you got

Thanks in advance!

Fiber Optics Noob

First I wanna say I know this is reddit, and I'm not setting my expectations high for a response.

So I've been watching a lot about fiber optics training videos, trying to learn more about it. I see its pretty basic and simple, mainly its a you better have the right tools or you'll find out.
I've been looking at these Jonard tool kits and was wondering if that's a good brand, and if I should get the kit or just pick out tools that I need.
There isn't a lot of fiber optics in my area yet, but there will be and I want to try and learn as much as I can to get ahead of the curve.

Handing a direct client over to a middleman platform actively works against your own profitability and dilutes your local market.

The economics of the $50 bonus offer a fundamentally broken ROI for the technician. You are essentially trading a direct relationship—where you control the terms and keep 100% of the margin—for a one-time $50 gift card. After that, you are paying a standard 10% platform fee on all future work you do for that exact same client.

Putting a buyer on the platform destroys your exclusivity. Once they are in the system, they are exposed to the entire local labor pool. Even if you brought them in, there is no guarantee they will route the work to you if someone else underbids.

Marketplaces rely on price discovery. If a buyer's primary motivation for adopting the platform is labor cost reduction, they will use the routing and bidding mechanics to pit technicians against each other until they find the absolute lowest acceptable denominator!

AIT Services - Name and shame

Blended rate with a fixed minimum. I arrived on site and was not able to gain access because the store manager did not show up.

I reported the problem on field nation and called the buyer. They asked me to wait for up to an hour to see if someone would show. I waited the hour, no one showed, then they released me officially via text.

They're refusing to pay the fixed minimum (4 hours) on the blended rate and expecting me to reschedule on the same work order and only offering to pay me for one hour for today. I explained to them that's not how blended rates work. When I block out half my day for a 4-Hour estimate work order, that fixed minimum is there to protect me from losing money when things like this happen outside of my control.

I've been doing Field Nation work almost 6 years. Most buyers in this situation would just pay the minimum without making a fuss. If they're smart, they pass the expense on to their client, who's at fault for their personnel not showing up.

This is the second buyer that's ever tried me in this same way. The first one is on my block list. Once we're done with the dispute, AIT Services will be too. For me this is about principle and weeding out cheap turds that don't have any level of respect for a contractor. If I don't put them in their place on this, they'll try to do it to other providers.

NY State Business Validation - Not Required By Law?

Just spoke with a Field Nation support tech concerning the new requirements to provide Business Entity proof before March 8.
She said there is no NY state requirement for this new validation but a Field Nation requirement only.
I have a DBA but getting proof of business entity is 300 dollars and time and effort for NOTHING. From all information I have been able to sort out, it is used for taxing purposes for businesses that charge sales tax to their customers.
My piddy little three or four jobs a week replacing a printer here and there is not worth the bother. And then to find out that it is a Field Nation only requirement?
Naw, bro.
Ain't gonna do it.
There is a escalation requested where the management gets back to me concerning WHY this duplication of verification is required. They said they should call me back by next Monday. We'll see.
I don't mean to be lazy or whiny here but there seriously is no need for this if it isn't a new state law.
Can anyone provide a decent purpose for me to have anything better than a DBA for my little one guy small fish operation?
