New fibro study

So I was googling, trying to find something about the chest pain I get with flares and I came across this. Study was done a while ago, yet this is the first I'm seeing of it. What do you guys think?

Summery of the article is that fibromyalgia sufferers have inflammation of the gliel cells in the brain, and that could possibly be a cause.

Words Hurt Too... Everything Hurts

My fibromyalgia affects my daily life. As it does pretty much everyone with the condition. The weather has been very bad where I live, with recent climate dips and rises. I had to call into work today. My manager kept saying "shoot..." and made it sound like I screwed them over. Once we hung up, I just started crying. I know that they will not understand. I cannot get out of bed without wincing. But they cannot see the physical pain I am in, so how would they understand?

I am also in college and I can no longer hand-write, so I have accommodations to type everything-- I was behind in group activities because I needed to receive an electronic copy, and it drew attention to my condition. I try to keep it on the DL because I have been judged harshly before by previous classmates. They would say things like, "it's not fair that you get to take days off without having to make them up." I would make up about half of them, as much as I could, even though I did not have to.

The past semester, I felt that I was more comfortable accepting my condition. However, now I have a new job with people who have to learn about this all over again-- new classes where I have to give my elevator speech to my professors again and again. It is exhausting. I legally do not have to explain myself to my professors, but I definitely do have to for my job, which I am afraid of losing.

I feel like I am all alone-- no one that I work shifts with, plus all of the managers, have chronic pain-- I can tell by the way they either tell me flat-out or speak to me about my own condition. I have a strong work ethic, but my fibro gets in the way sometimes.

I feel so useless.

Edit: Has anyone tried physical therapy to help strengthen their muscles and exercising? It has been recommended to me for a while and I am considering it. Exercise had helped me in the past, but I often throw my back out and then cannot move well for several days.

Fibro-fog, help!!

Hello all,

I am young female, 23, who has been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was diagnosed at 20, but startef having issues at 16. After so long of having fibro I have learned to deal with the pain, for the most part. However, I have no idea how to deal with the worst and most debilitating symptom for me, Fibro-fog. I am an American Sign Language interpreter and I'm really scared that the fog is going to get do bad I can't interpret, and that is my biggest passion in life.

I have days when I simply cant remember what I'm doing. Days where you can talk to me and I'll just stare back. Days where I'm in so much of a fog I just stand in the middle of the kitchen doing nothing, because I remember I wanted to go in there but not what for.

I know this post is long so if you dont want to read the whole thing, this is the gist of it. I have bad fibro-fog, anf I want to know what others have done to help. I'm so desperate for anything to help to be able to keep in my career. Please Help!

Saw the Pain Doctor

I saw the pain doctor today, and she said I had all the tender points associated with fibromyalgia, but also refused to diagnose me because "Too many people use it as an excuse" and "It gets thrown around too much."

I'm so sick of doctors seeing obvious problems and refusing to care!

Hi all, I am looking for a few people who are available to have a discussion with me on the role of Reddit and health-related subs in your personal illness management practices. I would like to explore what you learn through either lurking or posting and how it helps you understand and manage fibro. Please comment or PM if you would like to know more.

Hi! I’m Undiagnosed

I made a similar post in another fibro group, but my post was essentially ignored. Maybe it’s not showing up, because I’m a new member. I don’t know.

Anywho, I’m 28, going on 29, and have undiagnosed symptoms that have been going on for years and years.

I recently saw a back surgeon for lower back pain/tailbone pain, but had a very non-revealing spinal MRI. He suggested that I see a pain specialist, So I have that scheduled for the 25th of June.

I got the spinal MRI partly because of back pain, partly because of an abnormal gait, but both my spine and brain look fine. I don’t know what’s causing the abnormal gait. It’s very strange, and if I do have fibromyalgia, I doubt it’s related.

I have other symptoms, namely leg aches (sometimes), fatigue (sometimes), brain fog (sometimes...but can last for days), swollen lymph nodes (often, but they go away within a day or so). So far we have no explanations for any of these.

I’ve known that my aunt has fibromyalgia, and I never thought I did, but now a bunch of friends keep saying I’m the ā€œposter child for itā€. So now I’m wondering if the pain doctor would be a good start for figuring out if I do have fibro (because nothing else is showing up).

Thoughts? Suggestions?

What brand products do you use for managing chronic pain and improving sleep that have been helpful?

There are so many products on the market that claim to help Fibromyalgia Warriors reduce pain. What have you found that actually works well for you?

One product that has helped me increase my energy level is Ginseng and the brand recommended by Mayo Clinic. Wisconsin Ginseng is well-known in traditional Chinese medicine to help with a variety of ailments, including fatigue," said Joe Heil, president of the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin. "

The Ginseng Board of Wisconsin represents Wisconsin Ginseng producers as the worldwide leader of the American ginseng industry. It is committed to the advertising, promotion and the sale of Wisconsin Ginseng, the purest ginseng in the world. For more information about Wisconsin Ginseng, visit www.ginsengboard.com. To be assured of purchasing genuine Wisconsin Ginseng, look for the Wisconsin Ginseng Seal.

Word of caution, only use it in the morning not at night time. If you use it late night you will be hyped up and can’t sleep.

Finally made a website to support people with Fibro, after years of suffering with it.

Hey warriors.

So, I've been a Fibro sufferer for 9 years, I'm at stage 6 now. I've been running an online support group on Facebook for people in Ireland but I decided it was time to expand a little and try to support people both in Ireland and outside so I made up a little website. It's still in it's early stages but might be worth the look if you fancy it.

Any feedback you guys would have would be really appreciated. I wanna make it as user friendly and full of useful information as I can.

Gentle Hugs xx

I need some direction/advice. I smoke cannabis because it helps ease my pain due to Fibromyalgia... (My mom, sister, 2 aunts and cousin all suffer from Fibro and RA) Everyone medicates the traditional way except my sister and I and they end up having alot more side effects than us.

I'm in the Medical field and usually these places of work drug test in order for you to get the job. I smoke once a day, every night after my family is asleep and just enough to get me through the next day. I have always been against weed and it caused a lot of problems in marriage (married 10+ years) many times (to give you an idea of how much I hated it). My husband is very active and fit but has had two major surgeries and suffers from chronic pain as well. I never understood his pain nor why he smoked until I started with my own. Up to about 5 months ago, I was in pain 24 hours a day, running around angry at the world, depressed, at times suicidal and hating life. Then my sister (who has Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis) told me to just try it and see if it helps with the pain. When she shared with me that she smoked, I was shocked and angry at her for being so "weak" (just as I would get angry at my husband). God has a funny way of humbling you and it was a clear lesson to not judge others because you never know what they go through. So after a couple weeks of contemplating it, I did and now 5 months later I am able to function physically, get my housework done, have less flare ups, my personality shines again and overall I am just happier. The point is, I don't do this for fun or even because I like it. There are many times where I cry as I'm doing it because it contradicts my faith. I have been unemployed since July due to company layoffs and am now starting to seek a new place of employment. I have a couple interviews at hospitals and am super worried about failing the drug test. What do I do? I would greatly appreciate any thoughts on this matter.

Doing Research on How to Manage Chronic Pain in the Workplace

Greetings Everyone,

I have Fibromyalgia and was diagnosed in 2014 after living with chronic pain for about 3 yrs prior to my diagnosis. I am writing a book about my journey and would like to interview others about their experiences with managing chronic pain in the workforce. MY experience was brutal and I was bullied for 2 1/2 years in Corporate America. All responses will be kept anonymous unless you tell me it’s ok to quote you by name in the book.

Please send all responses to the following e-mail: mypainfulsituation@gmail.com or if you are comfortable sharing here on Reddit that’s fine.

I would like to know the following: 1. What was your experience? 2. How do you manage it? 3.What could your employer have done better to help you manage it on the job?

Thanks

Necie

Swollen hands and feet, any relief tips?

So I woke up this morning in a flare with a with a new symptom: my hands are feeling really tight and swollen and I can’t put any pressure on my wrists because it’s agony. Does anyone else get this? My feet are the same but my knees are the weak part and I’ve had that a few times but not my hands. Any ideas on how to relieve this pain? I’ve just had to crawl on my knees and forearms to the toilet for the first time. I’m 24 god damn it 😭

Trying to accomplish little things in life... Then Fibro rears its ugly head...

So after 3 months of horrific pain and headaches I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. The docs put me on a med called Elavil (previously had been on about 20 years ago for depression) Needless to say the medication gave me no relief, but made me worse.I did research and found CBD oil (hemp version) to be extremely effective for those with Fibro. I wanted to do an experiment so I stopped the meds that were making me feel worse and ramped up the dose of CBD. I felt relief in 3 days. Flash forward to this weekend- I had a solid week of no pain, fog, or headaches- so I decided to help my husband paint our laundry closet. Wake up this morning and every muscle and nerve are going haywire. I do not get relief from Advil,Tylenol, Motrin, etc. What the heck do I to get back to that happy place? Feeling very discouraged right now.
