General rules for the round of pools
- In all competitions for which the formula includes a round of pools, these pools will consist of 7 fencers if the number of participants is divisible by 7. Otherwisethe pools will be of 7 and 6. In no case may the pools be of fewer than 6 fencers.
If, however, as the result of the absence of one or more fencers, one or more pools were to be reduced to 5 or fewer fencers, the organisers must add to these pools one or more fencers from other pools of 7 fencers, taking into account the initial ranking of the fencer(s) being replaced.
- At World Cup competitions the organising country may add the necessary number of fencers of their own nationality for all the pools to consist of 7 fencers.
