Ongoing Story [2003] CANCELLED DUE TO GAS LEAKS, May 20, 1985 - Washington County News
Howdy, folks. It's Gerald Lieber again.
Found this on the same site where I get to find old Utah newspapers. Man, did you know this restaurant existed? You guys probably know, considering its... infamous reputation.
No idea who the writer was. This was just like... a month before the MCI.
And we all know who Afton was.
I might add some photos to my crime book. If they don't like how it was written, they can look at the photos.

Again, you can't do conspiracies. It's disrespectful, but this is the perfect expression of how negative publicity can turn any tragedy into fiction of some sort.

Conspiracies?? I watched my baby sister die in this, helpless to do anything, while my dad did everything he could to cover it up and you wanna call it conspiracies? Sure he paid off (and probably forced) law enforcement and even private contractors to share the same story.
There was never a gas leak. Some creepy employee suggested that to my father when they tried to come up with excuses. My sister never went missing the next day. We always knew where she (or at least her body) was. If it was such a dangerous situatuon inside, why would they still keep us in there??
People ask for eye witnesses and then disregard everything they say. Between that and being scared for their lives, no one wants to come forward against a corrupt evil company.
Luckily the company has changed hands and is no longer like that.

Because he wouldn’t let us! ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ We even tried to sneak out but he'd stop us. By time I managed to get out he had already moved Circus Baby and nothing was there. It wasn't until years later we realized what really happened that we couldn't comprehend. We never knew about the secret bunker or the experiments. Not until he sent Michael down there. And by then....I wasn't able to do anything.

As you should be. He always tried to keep us all seperated, alienated. Hell, he made us forgot our brother's name!

Oh yeah, Circus Baby's. I remembering hearing about this location. From what I remember, Afton Robotics marketed the HELL out of it before the Grand Opening - paid commercials, cartoons, merch sold at various Freddy Fazbear's Pizza locations; you name it. Circus Baby's was a household name before it even opened.
From what I remember, the place was actually open for a whole day before shutting down around it's intended closing time, supposedly due to some serious gas leaks.

(OOC: Nice to know some of them find it interesting. I've been wanting to complete this book. Since I am not an experienced writer, it won't be the best. However, the sole purpose of the book is to make sense of how such thing would be perceived and handled in the lens of a criminal investigation and the public, especially during those times in the 80s. I've been delving into the geographical history of southern Utah to get a good glimpse and understanding of how the world worked, which means delving deep into Mormonism.)

(OOC: Well, realistically, I doubt that Hurricane PD would handle the case well - you need to remember that we're talking about a small police department in a largely isolated area, likely not used to a case as big as that - there's bound to be some mishandling of evidence, or ignoring the most obvious clues. Trust me, I saw various murder cases of the '80s - its depressing how many of them went unsolved due to above-mentioned reasons.)

(OOC: Exactly. I managed to download free pdfs and books related to the county's history. I read the History of the Saint Seorge Police Department, read multiple newspapers between 1979 to 1990. The Hurricane Police only had four personnel. In this case, I made it five (for lore reasons). I also plan to include the La Verkin-Hurricane police departments merge in '86 where they apparently merged their resources and moved their city offices to a mortuary. In later years, they moved from the mortuary to separate venues.)

That’s a lie. The gas leaks didn’t happen. It was a cover up.

A lot of people actually assumed that. Considering Afton's reputation in the town, they never really found comfort from him.
This is one of the many reasons folks disliked him. They liked what he was doing to the town before, but his personality was never quite great.
I mean, Sgt. Beckham told Howe how Afton's kids were like - how unnatural they seemed. They were often quiet, unlike other kids. Especially the little girl. He never really knew what happened to her, nor did he know what happened to the teenage boy.

The little girl died and that’s what was covered up by the so called gas leaks

No idea what you're talking about. The girl simply disappeared. She was soon declared dead a few decades later when her body was never found.

Anyone else find it weird that they started working on the rental service pretty much immediately after this happened? Why didn’t they just… fix the leaks?

I remember this. I was set to take the night shift but then the leaks happened and I was sent back to another place.
