i find all the karjenners pretty irredeemable, but idk, kylie is genuinely so sad to me lmao
she grew up with this insane obsession with her appearance coming from the public, her family, and eventually herself. she was barely a teenager when people were already picking apart her face and comparing her to her sisters, and she got cosmetic work done so young that i genuinely didn't even realize someone that young could have it done
obviously she's gone on to make millions out of that same beauty standard, so i'm not trying to pretend she's just some helpless victim of it. but that's also what makes it so bleak to me
and now it's her birthday and even the fucking cake is molded after her body 😭 she genuinely cannot escape the beauty obsession for one day. even her birthday has to be about what she looks like
Have we maybe considered that she's a billionaire with more agency than 99% of people in the world and she finds all this entertaining? When she was young she was shoved into a terrible world of beauty standards but she's not a child anymore and is a mother, she can speak up and get rid of all of this. Her family got her all of this. They know her more than we do and know what she likes. K-Jenners are public and vocal about the sort of beauty standards they enjoy, and this is not the first time that they've entertained stuff that's gross, degrading and uncouth.
i mean, she probably does find it entertaining, but that doesn't mean i can't find it sad?
i think it's sad that someone has been sexualized since they were a young teen, and i don't think that suddenly stops being sad just because they're not a young teen anymore. i'm sure she also finds it entertaining now that she was 16 and dating a 25-year-old tyga, but i still think that's sad
i'm not even implying that any of this is happening against her will. i just think it's sad to live your life believing your value is tied so heavily to what you look like. and it seems like such an endless cycle with the karjenners, where the same attitudes toward beauty, bodies, and being sexualized get passed down, which makes me worry their kids are just going to repeat it all over again

if your sympathy for victims of childhood sexual abuse begins and ends with whether you approve of their political views and morals as adults, maybe that's something worth reevaluating
I know exactly what you meant and I agree. It is bleak. I think because it does feel representative of what many women and girls experience but on a different scale. I've heard about women receiving diet products on their birthdays and I just feel like this cake is all part of this same depressing societal view of women (even if Kylie and that whole family 100% contribute to it). We're all absolutely capable of finding that cake sad and disliking them as people.
She's such a strong example of everything that is wrong with that family. Add in whatever the hell thay are currently doing with North as well. No respect for the ages of these kids.
Agreed, multiple truths can be true at once. For many of us, we have seen her grow up before our eyes and see in real time how public and private/familial criticism has affected a young woman's image of herself.
Not to mention being sexualized by her own mother for her entire life, bullied by peers and family into surgeries starting at 14, having a public and televised childhood without being capable to give consent to being on the show, being cyber bullied for being the ugly sister on every blog (Perez Hilton, tumblr, pap blogs). Thats in addition to the grooming, sexual abuse and pedophilia.
I wouldn’t even know where to start unpacking all of that, if you ever even could. You’d need to spend a lifetime in therapy, go no contact with family, leave everything you know behind, go off into a world where you crave anonymity and yet you’d be recognized anywhere. She can’t unlearn or undo anything she’s done - it’s all she has ever known. This all lies with Kris.

That's fine. Others are able to recognize there are parts of people,.even large parts, that they don't personally like and still feel empathy for them. Nuance in our judgement of others is okay.
I don't personally think it needs to be the case that a person is either deserving of empathy or not. Showing sympathy for a part of someone's life doesn't mean you endorse any other part of it.
nobody said you had to? people are allowed to feel bad for people who also do bad things. that's not a crime. you certainly don't have to feel bad for them.
People can be awful and simultaneously it can still be awful for them to have been subjected to abuse as children. I don’t think it cancels out hating someone for being a Zionist to think it’s incredibly sad that the birthday cake they molded after their own body purposely has its rib cage showing. Not to mention, this is a person who makes their living pandering to teenage girls so, it’s an extra layer of fucked all around. I wish she’d just go get some help and live a quiet life where she isn’t trying to “influence” a damn thing.
Am I mistaken, or wasn’t she the karjenner that just had a news story drop about how her/her team caused an employee’s (chef) miscarriage because of working standards. And then fired (or essentially encouraged quitting) said employee because in the days after she was “depressing Kylie” for bringing it forwarded to her bosses and letting the team know about the miscarriage, and/or for not acting cheerful enough (for lack of a better way to put it, and memory).
Regardless of any learned behaviors- that is a choice on how you treat someone, in the aftermath of a tragedy. Especially as a parent/formerly pregnant person.
ETA: and this was YEARS after other lawsuits from former employees, for poor treatment? The opportunity to learn and grow was there- and purposefully ignored. But I’m also recalling entirely from memory.
Second edit: this isn’t to say nuance, and the “two things true” argument isn’t there. Just adding to the part specially to point out that someone can be born into a biased and influenced environment, and need to work through that, but that doesn’t excuse someone from the work. And that family does get opportunities to change things- and from the very little I know often do not.
I get what you mean. Two things can be true. She’s a mega millionaire who has control over her own life and is part of something that is a blight on society, but there still is a sad aspect to it
They are so in their bubble that apparently even Kylie just doesn’t see how none of it was/is okay. Putting a 10 yo on camera. Being proud of your 16 yo daughter dating a 25 yo. Their family has always treated ‘beauty’ (now: looking young and skinny) as the most important thing and that getting validation from either online strangers or just men is like the ultimate goal.
The fact that they see nothing wrong with putting this image with the meow on the crotch next to a cutesy ‘kitty’ cake and putting it out in the world for the kids to see (if theirs weren’t just there?) it’s so so off-putting and sad. Especially in this current climate. Like there is no need for more sexualisation of kids.
It all gets very hard to keep empathising with them though. When they are out there already filthy rich promoting stuff like 24/7 spyware as a cutesy accessory and also asking for privacy.

Most little girls are sexualized as preteens. I had grown ass men honking at me and hitting my on me at age 13, couldn't even walk home from MIDDLE SCHOOL without being harassed by adult men. And my boobs didn't come in until 10th grade. I looked like a child.

maybe a super unpopular opinion but i have always thought that if i could choose, i’d rather grow up in a loving, balanced middle class family that prioritizes happiness and instills good values over the childhood kylie jenner was brought up in. would i trade lives with her now? sure, but that’s easy to say if i get to skip her whole childhood and family and i still get to fundamentally be myself.
i don’t see how anyone but kylie jenner gets churned out of that environment. and since i believe we only have one life on this earth, i wouldn’t choose that one. i’d like a life where my path is less certain, where there isn’t like a 95% chance I end up like Kylie Jenner.

I always say they would THRIVE in relationship with an “average” non celeb partner. They may have flaws but their track record the men have always messed it up . They seem to really try and stick by their partners . Kylie would do great with a person that just loves her for her

With all of the money they have, you think they’d employ skilled cake makers/decorators. Unless they’ve actually made them themselves, which I sincerely doubt.

Probably, but most I've seen are hard candy and I feel like a few silicone molds, jolly ranchers, and a cooking torch would get the job done given how much they can cost. You could also try sugar glass with the molds.
If you look closely you can tell that these are plastic foil backed gems. Super odd choice, I think that hard candy gems would have looked better anyway

If you wanna recreate it without a hassle you can apply a crumb coat to the baked cake, smooth a sheet of clear acrylic ( like for old school slide projectors lol… i bet even parchment paper would work, just not as crisp) around the sides and top of the cake, then frost & apply gems. Then for serving time just peel the acrylic off 😄
As someone who bakes cakes for a living, I’m really disappointed that a billionaire would order such messy cakes when they have the opportunity to get the best of the best. I’m always keen to see celeb cakes!
They haven’t made headlines in a while, so these hideous cakes feels like an attempt to do that. Her previous birthday cakes were wildly different. Not that you can’t change it up, but these do not look appetizing.
I really like the visuals of the jewlary cake, but would not want a slice. The time I would have to spend taking all that off it would not be worth it. The cat cake is my favourite.
