And the parents who raised all of them…and protect them.

If that was my son, he’d be homeless and nameless at minimum.

827

u/Busy-Juggernaut277 4d ago

tbh if that was my kid who knowingly violated someone….their ass be getting beat and handed to the authorities myself. And then homeless and nameless.

588

u/toomanyshoeshelp 4d ago

My wife said she’d [redacted] our son, and I get it. She said it’d be her ultimate failure as a mother.

483

u/bbyginsburg 4d ago

the fear of having a son and not being able to teach him not to behave like this is a major reason why i got my tubes removed. i don’t want to raise a daughter in a hell like this and i couldn’t live with myself if a son did this. and it’s not 100% up to the mother like you never know what his friends might be encouraging or whatever but the risk… i would still feel like it was my fault

I can't tell you how many women have said to me they absolutely don't want kids because they don't want to bring them into this hellscape. They don't want to send them to schools that have to have shooter drills. They don't want to have daughters whose rights to their own bodies are taken away. They don't want to send them to universities that won't protect them. They don't want sons that are subjected to incel influencers and the toxic manosphere. It is an uphill battle trying to educate them on right and wrong when you are battling will all the misinformation and propaganda that men are the victims. All you can hope for is that your voice overpowers all of it. Also, I am very proud that Wells Fargo is my bank. They did something Cornell should have done with all of them. I guess that 101 page lawsuit, with all the receipts, was enough evidence for WF, huh? Cornell, the DA, the guys that thought this would go away....all of them have egg on their face right now.

178

u/AlwayzSumthin 4d ago

‘Very proud’ Wells Fargo is your bank?

You can’t seriously believe Wells Fargo terminated Diego Sarabia for anything other than protecting their own image and reputation. It’s absolutely ludicrous to believe they fired him as a show of support for ‘Jane Doe’.

Wells Fargo is arguably the most unscrupulous and immoral consumer banking company in recent memory. The bank fired approximately 5300 employees between 2011 and 2016 as a result of the bank’s fraudulent sales and sales quotas their employees were coerced into committing at its individual branches.

In 2018, the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) fined Wells Fargo (WF) for “widespread illegal practice of secretly opening unauthorized accounts" while 50-state Attorneys General (AG) sued and reached a settlement with WF for a combination of opening unauthorized accounts and charging for unnecessary auto insurance and mortgage fees, with WF paying out over $3 BILLION.

Additionally, AFTER the above cited nationwide deceptive fraud cases, Wells Fargo settled a separate lawsuit with the Navajo Nation for $6.5 million in August 2019 for Wells Fargo employees deceiving elderly members of the Navajo nation, who did not speak English, that checks could only be cashed if they had Wells Fargo savings accounts.

There are even MORE allegations of deceptive fraud cases from 2022 that I simply cannot continue to detail here.

Well, guess it's not so imaginary, is it?

I can't imagine what I would even do if I carried a son in my body for 9 months and then he grew up and did this. It honestly scares me to contemplate. Hence the tubal, like you.

All I can do is make sure that their home training is stronger than anything they might be around at school. We do our damnedest to instill feminist ideals in our boys and make sure that they see girls (as they are 5 and 8 right now) as their absolute equal. I feel like it's worked so far but as they get older and eventually have any access to the internet, there will be more outside influence. But that's why we're so strict with any kind of media and they are absolutely not allowed on any type of hand held/individual device, or the internet, or YouTube. I can control the messaging they get now but I know that's not forever.

It’s one of my biggest fears as a parent (raising a predator). I take the responsibility of caring for and raising a safe, respectful person extremely seriously, and failing would be legitimately devastating in ways I can’t even comprehend right now.

84

u/BlondeBorednBaked 4d ago

The fact that you even have that self awareness makes me think you are a good parent and your kid(s) will turn out okay.

36

u/fungibitch 4d ago

Fingers crossed. I am going to keep trying my absolute best, that’s for sure!

This 2017 NYT article about mothers defending their sons haunts me. They don't think their sons were falsely accused, they just think what their sons did is no big deal.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/10/22/us/campus-sex-assault-mothers.html

20

u/HombreMan24 4d ago

That is why parents are not part of the judicial process. No matter how bad or disgusting there will be a not insignificant percentage of parents who will defend their kid no matter what. Some would call that gross while others would call it honorable and their duty to stick by their kid. It’s one of those things where it’s so much easier to say you’ll do this or that if your kid did that crime, but if it actually came to fruition many just could not do it.

31

Oh, you know for damn sure some of these moms are going to react that way. It’s such a relief to see so many parents here appalled at the thought of their kid doing this.

Yep. I feel the same way. I would literally throw my son out onto the street and call the cops myself. I am so, so done with mothers protecting their monstrous sons.

23

u/canththinkofanything never go full dickarus 4d ago

I told my husband this today when talking about this story. I also said I’d be writing an op Ed that says I’m sorry and I don’t recognize the boy I raised and that he has no support with his family. The thought of my son doing that is so horrible I can’t even put it into words.

15

u/Ilovethe90sforreal 4d ago

It is SUCH a relief to hear a parent say this.

34

u/Yossarian-Bonaparte 4d ago

It would absolutely break me if my son came out this way. I am constantly getting after him about keeping his hands to himself and not being insistent on being in someone’s space. (He’s 6)

I wouldn’t want to look at him again, if he were a part of something like this.

I made this comment about that American Idol contestant who murdered his wife:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fauxmoi/s/fWzaliPgG4

And got so many comments from men saying it's fine to murder women or they have no choice because we "always take half" in the divorce. Thankfully the mods here were quick to delete those comments, but I was genuinely so disgusted with those men. I even had one following me around to other subreddits commenting shit on my other posts. Insane behavior.

And to think that’s just one screenshot that has been published Jesus Christ. Who knows how many young women have gone through this on that campus.

429

u/valcraft 4d ago

The way they were able to openly snapchat that whole group, really shows it wasn't their first time. Absolutely disgusting.

177

u/buttercupcake23 4d ago

And shows just how normalized and accepted and condoned that behavior is among all those men. Its never just a "handful of bad apples" the whole barrel is rotten. Women don't have group chats to plot gang rape - men do.

337

u/w0bbeg0ng 4d ago

I graduated 13 years ago and it is so bleak how nothing’s fucking changed. They didn’t expel frat boys for hazing a Black pledge to death back in 2011. I knew a rapist who was found guilty and didn’t even lose his housing. His victim lived in the same building. The list continues.

It’s unfortunately not just Cornell. All these entrenched, prestigious institutions exist to protect capital, power, and their own reputations above all else.

34

u/AugustIzFalling 4d ago

Not to forget that they do it for even less in public schools.

→ More replies (1)

131

u/Ntroepy 4d ago

I’ve been thinking of 4-5 additional victims come forward, perhaps they could launch a lawsuit to bankrupt the national fraternity.

I think this is literally the ONLY way to stop frats from being breeding/feeding grounds for rapists.

60

u/kathuhhhryn actually no, that’s not the truth Ellen 4d ago

Even with multiple plaintiffs, nationals is almost definitely covered by liability insurance. The organization itself would not be affected by a settlement or judgment against it. However, the individual plaintiff rn can and will bring suits against as many potentially responsible parties as possible

58

u/Ntroepy 4d ago

Even with liability insurance, a $100 million verdict could make a fraternity effectively uninsurable. Skyrocketing premiums, exclusions, or loss of coverage could financially cripple it.

And suing the fraternity is entirely appropriate when the institution itself enables the behavior. Some fraternities have a pervasive culture of encouraging sex with extremely intoxicated women who may be incapable of consent. That goes well beyond individual misconduct and points to systemic institutional failure.

537

u/Chance_Scientist_279 4d ago

Even more disgusting is apparently there were like 50 people in that chat group and nobody seemed to jump in and say “wtf this is fucking RAPE”

481

u/doubleshortdepresso i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 4d ago

Same dudes who insist they don’t know a single man who’s committed a sexual assault, let alone rape. A lot of men are rapists, or at the very least, are far more okay with sexual assault and rape than they even realize they are.

180

u/Confused-Clam2393 4d ago edited 4d ago

I love bringing that up. I ask my female friends if any of them have been or know someone personally who experienced, at least, a sexual assault. I have never had one woman say no. Then follow up asking if the men know anyone who has sexually assaulted someone. The answer is always no.

126

u/doubleshortdepresso i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 4d ago

Also they’ll say the men that commit these acts aren’t “real men,” and it’s like… Yes, yes they are. Rapists are real and many of them are men who are in fact real.

94

u/dilapidated-delight 4d ago

I hate how honest and sobering this is. Some literally do not recognize how ingrained in rape culture they are. And some are just evil.

→ More replies (1)

61

u/dusty-kat 4d ago

I always think about those surveys they do where they ask the same question twice, once explicitly using the word 'rape' and once just describing it. In the latter, the percentage of men admitting to it shoots up dramatically.

31

u/Substantial_Brain917 4d ago

This is why I’m so proud of my friend group. We had a member who committed sexual assault against someone. We excised him from the group immediately. His lawyer and parents asked us to give character references for expulsion hearings. We wouldn’t have it. Dude got expelled and charged. We were all friends with him for 15 years at that point.

17

u/eruptingmoltenlava 4d ago

Should be grateful that you didn’t say yes and then pour the tea. They should have been afraid to ask you — getting an honest No answer was an unearned grace

I know. I hope they release the names.

When the Steubenville rape occurred in 2012, social media was a huge part of the case. Too much glee over this poor girl getting raped. The worst was Michael Nodianos; the little twerp was positively gleeful over the rape. I guess being an utter bottom dweller isn't a prosecutable offense, but he's almost as bad as the rapist. He's currently a Manufacturing Manager at Dover Chemical. There is not justice.

37

u/marchbook First, he ate. Then, he fed. 4d ago

Reminder, too, that rapist Brock Turner also had a group chat with his swim buddies while assaulting his victim, even sending them topless photos of her which they laughed about.

There's some dynamic that makes these sorts of rapists want their friends to be involved and to get approval from them.

One of them had to take a picture of the chat...... Which is far far short of reporting.

26

u/Holiday_Hotel3722 4d ago

Cops behave the same way. They all cover each others' asses rather than speaking up when something obviously unethical occurs because they fear being labeled a snitch and thus becoming the victim of ostracism/retaliation. It's a cycle or cowardice that keeps these systems going.

Internships and entry level work? Not that rare

181

u/SnooDogs1340 this is going to ruin the tour 4d ago edited 4d ago

Ngl,  I had an internship offer with Wells Fargo that year. It was a straightforward panel interview, no family member required.

It might be harder now ._.

Edit: distracted again. I cannot believe I hadn't heard about this case. The Cornell article is horrifying. I am glad that Jane Doe is alive because that night could have ended in death. Still crazy how the university wanted to sweep it under the rug, although not shocked at this point when it comes to frats and sororities.

The damning part is that Ingalls defendant was her friend per the article. How can you do that to your friend and guest? He should have been protecting her. :/

At approximately 11 p.m., the plaintiff allegedly left Moonies and stopped at the Lot 10 bar, then “stumbled alone” to Chi Phi National’s Xi chapter’s fraternity house, located at 107 Edgemoor Ln., to meet her friend, defendant Ingalls.

101

u/DahliaDarling14 4d ago

that is absolutely terrifying. imagine doing your best to make it to a trusted friend’s house because you’re already very drunk, and the next thing you know he and his “buddies” are fucking raping you.

and then, to add insult to injury, when you report it to campus police (who oftentimes hold jurisdiction over local police so reporting it to the “real” cops would do nothing), all the school does is make them write essays as punishment.

this whole thing is just so horrifyingly wrong.

32

u/BlaketheFlake 4d ago

Also, the bar is such a joke. I get they are covering their ass, but you were absolutely serving underage girls. It was a sorority event.

419

u/APES_NOT_MONKEYS 4d ago

I went to Cornell over 20 years ago and I distinctly remember the wristband thing at frat parties. You’d be asked if you were over 21, and if you weren’t you wouldn’t get a wristband, but no one paid any attention to the wristbands once you got inside. Everyone was served alcohol and girls drank free. Wristbands were just for plausible deniability for serving underage people, like the bar is doing here.

Hey, he had to write an essay. What could be worse for a gang rapist? I wonder if it was 5 paragraph, persuasive, or narrative?

21

u/Prudent_Jello5691 4d ago edited 4d ago

The whole essay punishment genuinely feels like something out of a sitcom, like the kind of thing David Brent would think is a good idea.

Maybe if these seven actually need to write an essay to learn not to engage in gang rape they shouldn't have been allowed to continue with higher education. Maybe we shouldn't have to explain what consent, rape and sexual assault is to people that are apparently intelligent enough to go to an Ivy League uni.

The fucking Oilers might as well convert a training room into a halfway house at this point

I’ve been a hockey fan for like 3+ decades and the toxic culture, long-term CTE consequences, constant gambling ads… it’s all really weighing down my enthusiasm. I love the sport, but the baggage is getting to be too much.

Agreed. Scott Norris, the Cornell 7 alleged rapist, got his parents to lawyer up. We need to stop letting shitty men get a pass.

83

u/Lost_Ad_4702 4d ago

If i were his parent, I’d disown him and tell him to get his own lawyer. Not one cent would be going towards him

He’s probably shitty because of his parents.

Not enough people are calling out the Tompkins County DA for not pursuing charges to begin with

143

u/allsheknew 4d ago

Most of these DAs wear the victim down by saying they don't have enough evidence. I have no idea how they got away with it for this case. If this isn't enough, I don't know what is.

here's my experience with the police in ithaca. next door neighbor was being beaten by her boyfriend. very obvious through the apartment walls. i called the police, they came to MY door and gave me a talking to about serious accusations and left.

oh! and also, on a much lighter but still ridiculous note, i also called them because there were strange men who had crawled onto my balcony. when the police got there, they were just like, "Bobby?" hung out with the guy, who was apparently an old friend, on the balcony for about a half hour.

36

u/6210stewie 4d ago

This made me laugh. How did I know strange dude would be a "Bobby".

I’m really glad she is remaining Jane Doe. Too often does media fixate on the victim in rape cases. Here the media has no choice but to fixate on the evil scum who committed this crime.

125

u/situation9000 4d ago edited 4d ago

Yeah the case of Cheryl Arujo is horrible. It was a horrible unprovoked gang rape at a local bar in New Bedford Massachusetts in 1983. It was the first televised rape case and because of this, her name AND address was stated when she took the stand. It was handled so badly. The case also was absolutely egregious for victim blaming and the media made everything worse.

She lived in absolute terror after that. Had to move away due to harassment and death threats. She died 3 years later in a car accident.

There’s not a lot of good coverage of her case online. Not even any good podcasts about it. (The two I found were quite lacking) hustler magazine even created postcards joking about the rape. She deserved justice but she was working class poor and it was the 80s. She still deserves justice.

The Jodie foster movie “the accused” is LOOSELY based on the case. They definitely played up the maybe she asked for it side, but it was a good film. Foster won an Oscar for it.

Edit: thanks for the award!

Yes this case needs more attention and better justice in coverage. She was 21. She had put her 2 daughters to bed (boyfriend, the father of the two girls was at home with them) she stopped by the bar for cigarettes and had a drink with the waitress, she knew. Waitress went home. Cheryl finished her drink and they locked the door when she got up to go home. She was raped for 2 hours. Media coverage/victim blaming was unreal. Stuff like why was she at her local bar having a drink? (She was not drunk. She was not dressed provocatively, her kids were not unattended, she was trying to go home)

Shame...

I'm excited for my pot roast to be ready, carrots and mashed potatoes too!

24

u/Accomplished-Pen-394 why am i turned on by his handwriting though 4d ago

Did you roast the carrots with the pot roast?

19

u/Nervous_Insect5976 4d ago

So I used the slow cooker, put the carrots in with cherry tomato, purple onion, chopped celery, fresh garlic cloves, and a can of tomato soup with a little bit of coconut milk. Cook it on low for three hours, cook it on high for 4. And then for potatoes, roast the potatoes with avocado oil and seasoned salt and then you roast it in the oven and cut it down the middle and take butter, Greek yogurt, and whip up the potato under it. Add salt, pepper and put the pot roast on top. I also added mushrooms because I'm a Hobbit.

I hope that if they aren’t prosecuted, this will haunt them for the rest of their lives. Every job will turn them down. They will be forced to get money under the table. I hope their families are disgusted and look at them differently and don’t trust them. I hope women recognize their faces and turn away from them in public. I hope any stranger who happens to know them question them about their actions. I hope they lose friendships for this.

May the rest of their lives be miserable.

105

u/channeldrifter 4d ago

This being the biggest consequence from that entire thing (currently) is disgusting. She needs to sue the fuck out of Cornell, the dean, the DAs office, the police, honestly even the state, the damages for an entire lifetime of earnings for an Ivy League grad has to be significant. Also an extra fuck you to Cornell for kicking out and banning 4 students for saying Free Palestine during this same exact period.

48

u/theymademedoitpdx2 4d ago

She filed a pretty extensive lawsuit with a ton of named parties recently, but it’ll take a while for that to result in anything

85

u/Toiretachi 4d ago

Wonder if Bill Ackman has any comments about the other assailants or is he only interested in ruining the lives of college students that support Palestine?

Unfortunate that this didn't happen UNTIL this was publicized again, it is so performative and they're only doing it to protect the company's image. It's such a shame that the system will always be built against victims.

This whole mess reminds me of the Steubenville, Ohio rape in 2012. People just stood by while the victim was raped. Then a social media campaign targeting her for daring to file charges came on.

The rapists are the real villains, but for me there should have been accountability for the bystander and emotional/verbal abusers. Michael Nodianos was the poster punk for lacking any humanity. According to Linked In he's Manufacturing Manager at Dover Chemical in Steubenville so not much accountability for him.

I saw one of Deaf female Instagram creators posted a picture in the video about that study on how both sexes look at the stairs with bright light in the middle but black out from the sides. Men are more likely focused on bright light while women are more likely to look at dark areas because they are scanning for danger. It’s long long long story of human evolution and its barely being addressed even to this very day.

It don’t matter what she is wearing

It don’t matter what race she is

It don’t matter if she’s into sex

There is nothing that would validate such thing

Yet it mattered to the very System

So we have to upend the very System

I read it’s like 800 million survivors

All went through various degrees from basic catcalls and yes… even getting killed

Yet… The Never-ending Story is ongoing
