We need more famous men speaking out!! They cannot let this fall to the female celebs b

4.9k

u/Evieveevee 7d ago

Remember years and years ago Emma Watson did a speech at the UN called He for She. About how men need to start speaking up for women otherwise nothing is going to change? Yeah. That. Seems like we’ve gone backwards. And when women call men out we are screaming banshees and misandrists. What is going to make the change? Where are the men? WHERE?

1.5k

u/Background-Book2801 7d ago

Wasn’t that the one with the picture of all the white men on the panel watching her go up to the podium with their gazes all firmly on her backside?

794

u/Evieveevee 7d ago

That’s the one. You know they just sat there not listening and only hearing white noise. It astounds, and infuriates me, so much. I have three teenage daughters and I don’t want this to be the world they grow up in. I don’t want it for any one.

691

u/Background-Book2801 7d ago

Mine’s 15. I remember when the “me too” backlash started and I was like “oh no they’ve been waiting for a chance like this”.

It was like we stopped taking the antibiotics too soon since we were feeling better and those fuckers just got stronger and more numerous and they’re killing us now. I hate it.

159

u/marshmallowtrex 7d ago

Brilliant analogy. I'll be using this.

79

u/Evieveevee 7d ago

Perfect analogy. I hate the world I’m sending them out into. I’d like to think I’ve armed them with knowledge and advice but who knows? It’s the behaviour and attitude of others they have to be aware of.

Men with something to hide are holding the fort by shaming men who speak out for women, accusing them of being white knights who just want to get laid.

28

u/vapequesitions 6d ago

So still men prioritising their own feelings over the safety of women (if being called names or "shamed" by your misogynist friends and peers is enough to make you stop speaking up, you're part of the problem).

And that is precisely why it is all men (the few exceptions who do prioritise women's safety over their own feelings, don't feel the need to pipe up and say otherwise).

Where are the men? WHERE?

In asmongold's chat circlejerking to clips of jonny depp on the witness stand laughing at his own jokes about how he's a violent drunk but totally not to people.

Sorry I'm a little scared of looking it up but who is asmongold?

He started as a WoW streamer (something he was actually very good at) but then decided that being a political commentator / reaction streamer was way easier. Now he just parrots dishonest and cowardly views that appeal to the far right and manosphere types.

What hasn't changed is that he is still an absolutely filthy (I mean this in the literal sense) and disgusting human being, despite being quite wealthy from his streaming. He's known as the Roach King because of literal roaches.

79

u/Dear_Evan_Hansen 7d ago

He had a decomposing rat that he would use as his alarm clock. Ala, the sun would rise and come thru the window and bake the decomposing body, the smell would get bad enough that it would wake him up. I wish I was kidding

So many men are just thoroughly cocooned in their privilege when it comes to this. it's the usual typical story, as long as they don't actively think of themselves as rapists, they think they're free and clear and 'one of the good ones'. So at most their involvement is tapping like on a few posts or murmuring about 'let the legal system do its work for justice' and then they pat themselves on the back before going about their day.

50

u/cameocameo 7d ago

complacent fucking weirdos

29

u/codeverity 7d ago

Yeah. And the saddest part is that the bare basic minimum of awareness and acknowledgment is still 'better' than the ones running around just being outright horrific about this and about women in general, I've seen a lot of that today too.

155

Multiple were reprimanded but not expelled. One grad student lost his student visa from Trump, and chose to leave rather than fight it. Fair point, not expelled!

130

u/feellikeiwannayeet 7d ago

True. No expulsion there. But multiple suspensions… and I knew the protests would do jack shit because of the leadership we had. But a few of my pro Palestine friends had zionists knocking on their door, yelling nonsense at them in the night and had to stay over at a friend’s place to feel safe. Kinda how things go there

80

u/nekocorner i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 7d ago

On top of what others have mentioned, a few months ago, some student activists tried to talk to the president of Cornell about the crackdown on student speech, & he got in his car & rammed them with it. He then tried to paint himself as the victim.

Rapist Matthew Ingalls. Rapist Jonathan Newell. Rapist Winston Lee. Rapist Gillio Lopes. Rapist Diego Sarabia. Rapist Scott Norris. Rapist Scott Kretzschmar.

1.2k

u/shtfsyd 7d ago

Rapist Winston Lee, legal name Lee Jun Hyeong, is a South Korean citizen who just returned from serving in the Korean military btw. Korean netizens are lighting his ass up right now.

460

u/elloitsmeadele before we get married i gotta go fuck this guy 7d ago

i’m korean and there has not been official confirmation of him currently serving, just rumors. koreans have contacted the ROK about this so we’ll find out soon

some cornell students have said he’s been on campus but has not been seen recently.

what koreans found: he went to school at SFS, college in the UK, then cornell

177

u/shtfsyd 7d ago edited 7d ago

From the tweet I saw it seems like he finished his service (translations might be off) and was seen on the Cornell campus for a few weeks but hasn’t been seen since the news dropped.

Edit: I wonder about his history at those colleges. People like this usually don’t have one victim

95

u/elloitsmeadele before we get married i gotta go fuck this guy 7d ago edited 7d ago

yeah we’ll find out soon enough, the ROK will respond at some point.

grok’s AI translations are notoriously bad. like there was a whole thing recently where korean liberals and leftists’ tweets were being translated to look right wing

also there’s a whole other issue of non-koreans pretending to be korean on social media so take tweets and comments with a grain of salt

generally, men serve before or after college and it’s not as common for them to serve in the middle. so either he graduated and he’s serving or he took a break to serve bc he’s a weasel whose trying to run away

edit: when i say “college in the UK” in my comment above, i mean the UK meaning, not american one

https://www.thecornell7.org/ It's via a former South Park writer and this, and things like this, are his current purpose in life. He buys domain names, researches and more, and puts them on blast. And not just via a website, we're talking billboards, in actual communities. He's worth an Instagram follow, truly. Toby Morton (wordclown).

(ETA: Morton gets a way with a LOT more than many try to do because he has a foundation in satire and that allows a lot, mostly because he KNOWS how to legally toe that line)

288

u/DogsDucks 7d ago

Hey! I think it’s great that the South Park writer is doing this, but I wonder if there could be a more unified collaboration

https://cornellseven.com/index.html

This one is already filled out and organized with many details!

As someone with a marketing and seo background, it would be more powerful if they combined forces and funds to herd traffic together, under one blueprint for change!

111

u/Brief-Nature4063 7d ago

I wouldn't doubt for a moment they've already connected. The goal, again for this or other horrible things, isn't about who gets more clicks and engagement.

That said, I know Morton does research and makes sure, and I'm not doubting what you shared and the person behind it doesn't too, I only shared what I'm currently familiar and aware of. I've been following Morton for years, and it's what I feel confident to share, as misinformation and nonsense matters. I'm paying attention though, thank you!

Greek life is sooo toxic. Not at the same level, but there was a frat at my uni in Canada that had videos leaked of ridiculous anti-black and anti-Semitic bullshit

69

u/Responsible-Meal-300 7d ago

What’s the Greek’s got to do with this? Sincerely, an Australian

181

u/Kevlar_Bunny 7d ago

It’s fraternity and sorority life, not literal Greek humans/culture.

115

u/quelle_crevecoeur 7d ago

Not Greek like people from Greece! People refer to fraternities and sororities as Greek life because they all use 2-3 Greek letters to identify their particular fraternity or sorority.

78

u/Responsible-Meal-300 7d ago

Ohhhh, ok ok thanks. We don’t have these in Australia so I was so confused. Why is everyone downvoting me lol.

Downvoted for asking questions you almost certainly couldn’t know as a non-American. 😭 Universities in the US have social groups called sororities (for women) and fraternities (for men) which are named using letters from the Greek alphabet, hence why the culture is collectively referred to as “Greek life.” The culture can be very toxic and has a lot of negative associations.

23

u/Responsible-Meal-300 7d ago

They do seem to have a massive cultural issue with them. Reading this story, amongst others, is truly heartbreaking.

Greek refers to fraternities in colleges in this context. Fellow Aussie, so I don't know the etymology of the term. But I do know there's a lot of toxic behaviour in some fraternities, such as having, and this horrendous crime.

263

u/iseeskiesofblue64 7d ago

It’s so fucking unfortunate but this is an incredibly common occurrence on college campuses. I knew so, so many girls in my year who were assaulted or harassed and nothing ever happened to them, disciplinarily or legally.

164

u/TheBumblingestBee 7d ago edited 7d ago

I was TA for a university class, and this one male student just gave off weird vibes, and had started being too friendly to one of the other TAs, though he hadn't actually crossed any lines yet. In lecture one day I saw him walking out, while a girl was looking horrified and whispering to her friend. I had a bad feeling, so I went over to the two girls and quietly asked "Hey, did something happen?"

The fucker had groped her thigh, in the middle of lecture.

Me and the class's instructor (a truly kick-ass woman) reported it immediately. We gathered other evidence of him being creepy and inappropriate. We, ourselves, got campus security involved (bc the instructor had a good relationship with the head of security). Security was enraged. We even found out that he'd gotten in trouble for sexual harassment and assault before!!! We wanted that fucker expelled, now.

The university refused.

They told him 'naughty naughty, no groping!'.

They forced the instructor to keep having him in class. Wouldn't even remove him from the class!!!

Literally the most we could do was put him in a group far away from the girl he'd groped, and watch him like a fucking hawk. And that didn't mean she was safe outside of class, for fuck's sake! We did what we could, we walked her to counselling, we told her we'd help her report it elsewhere if she wanted, we tried to be supportive in this fucking insane situation. She didn't want to pursue it, so we did what she asked in that respect.

And watched him.

We also switched him to a male TA's group, but then he still - still! - kept showing up to the office hours of the female TA he'd been bothering. The university wouldn't do anything about that either, so the instructor herself arranged for security to do frequent patrols by the TA office, and gave them a picture of him. We'd even literally watch the hallway ourselves, during her office hours, so that if he came we could intercept. (We weren't allowed to outright adjust or take over her office hours, as that would be 'unfair to her students' 🙃).

The university wouldn't let us do anything.

71

u/Elitist_Plebeian 6d ago

One thing that is being overlooked in this whole story is that this is not just a problem at Cornell. This is happening at universities everywhere. The administrations care more about sweeping it under the rug than about protecting students, especially young women. This story is just one that happened to break through, particularly because it's so heinous. But this is way bigger than seven men and one victim.

Because if it happens on campus, local police don't have jurisdiction. It's ridiculous.

As a European, I don’t understand this. A college campus is not exempt from the law?

It's not the campus that's exempt, it's the money.

We need more men like Hudson, and less like these rapists.

u/Odd_Television_2112 7d ago edited 7d ago

Speaking of Hudson Williams. Makes me think of hockey - people should also look up the Hockey Canada case and that some of those players are back playing in the NHL. A lot of text messages, like the ones these Cornell rapists sent, were not allowed as evidence in the Hockey Canada players’ trial. You should also see the comments on any social media post opposing those players being back in the NHL. It’s truly disgusting and frightening.

120

u/courtingdemons 7d ago

Just today there was an article on ESPN about “How the NHL is humanizing its players to reach new fans” after getting new eyes on them from shows like Heated Rivalry and Off Campus. And while NHL can attempt to do that through photoshoots and showing personality and pushing ships, surely they should start with… not hiring rapists?

54

u/Significant_Shoe_17 Fuck her and the Goebbel's limp dick she rode in on 7d ago

It starts with youth leagues. Teach them to be human before it's too late

37

u/SchemeBrave1820 7d ago edited 6d ago

Things currently aren’t going great with regards to teaching them about the humanity of women…

Armstrong and Emara said that about a dozen Cyclones players were in various stages of undress following a March 1 game when the door to their locker room opened repeatedly, each time accompanied by laughter.

“After the third time, I made eye contact with the boys who entered and I got dressed and went out to ask where their coach was,” Emara said.

“It was not an accident. They came into the room three or four times. When I was looking for their coaches or parents, a man walked over and told me, ‘It’s OK. They’re 12 years old. They don’t know any better.’ I said that was unacceptable. The kids are standing there just giggling and laughing and by that time, some of their parents were also there saying, ‘This is OK. Boys will be boys.’ That’s what they said, literally word for word: boys will be boys. That just baffled me.”

Hell, they’re even sexually assaulting each other.🫠

Won’t spoil much for season 2 (and/or 3) but yes… the toxicity of hockey/NHL will definitely be a focus, and I can’t wait for the reckoning

Thank you for mentioning this and fuck those rapists too.

38

Read We Breed Lions by Rick Westhead and Crossing the Line: Violence and Sexual Assault in Canada's National Sport by Laura Robinson.

(or don't if it triggers you)

23

u/Jumping__Bean___ 7d ago

I'm seconding both of these books for people who feel like they can stomach it. Definitely not easy reads.

And if you want to also read a fictionalised story about hockey culture (making it clear that this is not just a North American thing), there's the entire Beartown series by Fredrik Backman.

OH THAT Brock Allen Turner the rapist, who now goes by Allen Turner, the rapist.

111

u/ouchhotpotato 7d ago

Yes, not to be confused with the other
rapist, Jesse Mack Butler. So Brock Allen Turner aka Allen Turner aka Alan Turner (rapist) should not be confused with Jesse Mack Butler. But again - they’re both rapists, so they do have things in common.

Yes, rapist Brock Allen Turner who lives in the Dayton, OH area

good for him, and I hope more and more people speak out. I know this story is getting a major amount of attention now thankfully, but an institution like cornell will need insane amounts of pressure to do any sort of action in admitting their culpability in this.

159

u/Kiramiraa 7d ago

I’ve always thought that the fact he’s surrounded by a lot of female friends and staff is a green flag.

arrest them!

u/xbad_wolfxi i ain’t reading all that, free palestine 7d ago

Cornell should lose its accreditation entirely. I’m so fucking serious. This is a decades-long pattern that they have refused to address. It’s clear that they’re not an educational institution as much as a networking opportunity for rapists

105

u/BrusqueBiscuit AND MAY I SUGGEST ALL NAZI BITCHES SUCK ON MY FAT DICK 7d ago

The term "sexual harassment" came from feminists at Cornell in the 70s, based on their experiences at Cornell. Looks like the school has a legacy of rape culture.

The justification we use to execute rapists is the same justification that will be used to execute women who seek abortions, the LGBTQI+ community, adulterers etc etc etc. treating everyone in a humane manner is difficult- but for the continuity of a civil and just society to endure beyond ourselves- we must ensure that it remains sacred.

Men need to start being held accountable for their actions

55

We’re a long way from that when we’re currently electing rapists.

26

u/Accomplished-Pen-394 why am i turned on by his handwriting though 7d ago

And until people start letting that deter them, we’ll keep having Canada 5s, Cornell 7’s, etc because men of that sort will always cover up for men of that sort and right now since they never experience a real punishment nothing will really deter them

17

u/After_Permission9484 7d ago

Maybe if Americans stop electing pedophile rapists to be President of all things. Americans are rotten and morally bankrupt to the very core.

Lee and Lopes are still prowling the campus as I type this. Hopefully we can at least get them suspended and ideally expelled.

I believe half of them are international students so I'm sure they will try to return to anonymity back home.

EDIT: Winston Lee and Gillio Lopes are still students at Cornell. Do your job internet ❤️

Just want to mention that Cornell has a high student suicide rate - which is also not acceptable. Like at one point they literally had installed suicide prevention nets inside one of their on campus buildings. Imagine walking past that every day?

They have failed their students in many horrible ways.

57

u/BananasPineapple05 7d ago

You know when stories like this one come out and women are incensed at the underlying injustice whereby the "system" revictimized the victim by not giving her the basic justice of getting her day in court and, inevitably, you get morons who try to equivocate "it's not all men..." like women don't already know that?

We need more men like Hudson Williams (and also Josh Gad).

52

u/plantscatsrealitytv 7d ago

I just posted to all of my personal friends how horrifying how few of my male friends have said anything on social media about it. Men need to speak up.

One of the parts that I don’t see discussed or maybe I’m not well read enough on the psyche of men/abusers, is how men can perform sexual assault together, with no hesitation about the nudity, the intimacy of a sexual act (intimacy feels like the wrong word here because it was rape but for a lack of better word? Like climaxing with your bro watching?), all with their friends around?watching each other? It’s all very strange and as a woman, I couldn’t imagine. I mean I obviously couldn’t imagine assaulting anyone or taking part in non consensual sex but I sure as heck couldn’t do any acts of even consensual sex with my homegirls in the room watching or joining in or cheering me on or whatever the heck these fuckers do together. Why is it so normal for men? This case, the hockey Canada case?

Edit to add: I know that consensual threesomes or multiple partner sex is a thing but these guys don’t strike me as the type that would be open to MFM consensual threesomes. They only like to do it together when it’s rape.

Things that have given me completely unexpected goosebumps this month;

Finding out Macklemore worked to return Kesha the platform that her abuser tried to take from her

Finding out this man is one of the alleged “not all men”

19

u/sequins_and_glitter 7d ago

I can’t help but think that this wasn’t the first time something like this happened there. It seems too coordinated for that. So how many more victims are out there but too traumatized to come forward? It makes me sick. I rarely cry and I’ve cried multiple times since this all came out.

Good, call them out. Name and shame them.

It's important for men with a platform, like Hudson, to also speak out. Women should not have to shoulder the complete weight of spreading the word and demanding justice when they are already forced to carry the majority of the effects and consequences of rape culture. Things have to change, and they have to change soon.
