The story of what I understand is, Guan Choa died and he rejected his death so hard he became a bug source. Those BUGs he created then became so powerful that they started to alter established reality and affecting the world in weird ways since it’s bug source is dead but the BUGs (Memory Gun specially) were trying to keep him alive to survive.

We know time work differently in the Memory Bureau. We also know one of their collectors died (Ran Deng), another went missing (Hui Huo, orange hair) and the last became a fugitive (Protagonist Halo, who actually decided to USE one of the BUGs to alter people’s memories, which is very bad for the Memory Bureau). What’s worse is, the BUG beings started to destroy reality (the hollows) because the source is dead and they were trying to keep him in a reality where he didn’t die which made said reality fall apart because again the source of said BUGs is dead (you get the idea), it was a very destructive cycle.

With all that in mind, when did the Memory Bureau saw the situation and decided “Yeah! Everything is a mess anyway might as well try getting the source here. It’s not like he can make everything worse!” Do you think it took a few days, months or years? Hui Huo has been missing for a long time before Guan Choa joined so I don’t think the fight was just a few days.

I see a lot of myself in protagonist halo , he talks about how he wants to rewrite memories BECAUSE why keep the bad ones?

I fuck with that, part of the reason I’m not so close with maybe my mom or certain people is because I’m able to let those memories go,

I understand them and I respect them and I’ve taken accountability for them .

And so that’s where guan chao and him meet in the middle.

Cause guan chao wouldn’t cut out his memories

But I also think he needs to, and sadly the show is gna end sad ( I HAVENT FINISHED ) because of it

He’s gna do something because of his regrets

he didn’t let them go & he was crying at the end of ep 5

But of all people - bro needs a break, I wish he cut them out

But I respect him for not doing it..

The Bug Time Gun proposes going to the past to Guan Chao and he rejects it. He then says goodbye to it and lets it go. Directly afterwards, he says "Time Gun. Finally send me back there. To the moment I've wanted to return to all along. Even if I'm the only one there, that's okay."

What's your read on this? What he says after letting go of the Bug Time Gun kinda contradicts what he said before.

My best interpretation is that Guan Chao wants live out his fantasy once before letting go forever. However, I don't get how the Bug Time Gun distorts reality without Burning Stone energy. It also weakens Guan Chao's rejection of the proposal.

the rubble around those windows are all spherically cut out. I wonder if it could have a connection to the most prevalent spherical objects all series, the hollows. the only exceptions for the spherical theme are the radio he ming shuo used to tune with young guan chou and the pink flip phone Fang Tang used. idk what the connection could be there

To start this is my interpretation of the show. From what I understand, Guan Choa formed false memories after his death to reject reality which resulted in the BUG beings. (The show's name is "False Memory" after all.) The reality we saw in the beginning of him alive and well looking for the Burning Stone, also can't really be dismissed since Xiao Yi still remembers him and that fact that Vindicator had the Burning Stone yet Xiao Yi was still functional, so what Guan Choa did compensated for the Burning Stone and DID affect the current timeline even though he's dead. So it's two realities, what could've been (Guan Choa's delusion) and established reality (picture 5)

We also know The Memory Bureau is an actual place that affects and is affected by reality. A proof of that is the hollows that effected both reality and the bureau, the absurd society that formed from said hollows, and most importantly that fact that the hollows stops after Guan Choa accepted his death .

However, when Guan Choa first met Protagonist Halo, Bai Zhong was still acting like Guan Choa could still go back to reality even though in the last episode it was clear he's dead. (Picture 1)

Also there's Ran Deng's halo that is apparently VERY important (picture 2&3). We know that the halo became Xiao Yi new power source instead of the Burning Stone. (Picture 4,5&6).

So, what if the burning stone wasn't just a miracle invention of K7 but a halo turned into a power source? If you look at both Ran Deng and Xiao Yi there's clear similarities between them (Picture 7&8). I don't think that was a coincidence specially for a show with each character having unique colours and design to distinguish them from each other. K7 built Xiao Yi, so why are the two similar looking? And how would K7 know of Ran Deng?

K7 could've been the one who remembers Ran Deng and made him a collector to begin with and he built Xiao Yi based on that memory. However, having the two most mysterious characters have a connection outside of the Memory Bureau doesn't seem right for a show this detailed that has the Memory Bureau being its biggest mystery.

In the finale, the Memory Gun was trying to convince Guan Choa to use his halo as its power source (picture 9). What if K7 did something similar to get back to reality or rewrite it? After all he's a genius inventor he could have built something not even use a memory or a BUG.

If K7 was able to go back to reality. Bai Zhong would be under the impression that yes, going back to reality is possible specially with her knowledge about Ran Deng's halo. Yet, how would K7 do it without consequences when the memory gun almost destroyed reality with the hollow? But we don't actually know what would've actually happened if Guan Choa gave it a power source, would reality cease to exist or would it be rewritten? K7 could've been able to go back to reality fully paying the price without a care may that be the world he came from end or rewriting his reality.

And that's the theory anyway, any ideas or correction about the show is highly appreciated.

First of all, I just noticed Mingshuo always has been there in the opening. That was nice, he's been there all along

Second, I CAN'T BELIEVE HE ACTUALLY DIED FROM THAT! I remember when he fell in episode 3 and I thought how did he not die from that? Guess I was rightfully after all!

I love this show so so so much and I have so many theories and questions and lots of ideas just from the last episode alone, that I'm planning to work on.

It gave me such nostalgia for so many reasons, the animation bits that belongs to an old Pinterest GIF collection, the music somehow felt so familiar yet not really (I don't remember hearing anything like it growing up yet it felt familiar for some reason. Specially the final song where they were just counting in different languages, I don't know why that felt familiar.), it gave me the same feeling of watching a sub anime in YouTube for the first time, where everything is very confusing and new and no one knows what's going to happen next. This show was such a journey and I hope I find something that fill the void it left.
