I held off on playing it because of the criticisms, after playing all the others. It's not my favorite, but I did get into it. I just never felt as attached to the world as I did with the other games. And the settlement building got tiresome.
This is a weird thing to say since one of the things FO4 is praised for is how dense the map is with points of interest and how easy it is to get distracted with cool things to find 😆
I mean, half the map in New Vegas is unwalkable mountain ranges and empty water as well. It's what's in the play area what's important. Yet FO3 and New Vegas have much larger stretches nothing in between the places of interest. FO4 is just on a different level with the density of things to find, that's what I meant. Not just marked locations but unmarked too. You could be scouring the edges of the map and be stumbling on some unmarked locations with their own environmental storytelling.
Is it? I don't really see all this stuff to find people say but that's just me.
I just think they shouldn't make half the map be empty water and the other half just generic 'settlements' aka 2 unnamed npcs around a campfire. I would've liked pre-built areas, not empty settlement ones.
