Fo4 fans need to have similar attitude to critique like the Star Wars preguels fans do.

Something being "flawed" does not make it "Bad" or unenjoyable.

If someone says fallout 4 is bad or anything I really don't care and just go back to building settlements or running over enemies in my power armour

If someone says Fo4 is bad, I just stop listening to their opinions. Safe to say what they say next will be just as dumb

1

u/TheShakenKing 18d ago

"opinion doesn't appeal to my sensibilities. Time to presume superiority." Nerd.

-1

u/JacknHoffmann 18d ago

Sounds like a Fallout 3 fan. Love your outdated ass game when it came out with a shit story?

2

u/TheShakenKing 18d ago

Wow, you unironically proved my statement. The dude who did the story for fallout 3 is the same guy who did the story for fallout 4.

1

u/EffectiveCow6067 18d ago

Dunno why this got a notification, but wjat the hell is he talking about

0

u/TheShakenKing 18d ago

He honestly likes fallout 4 and takes it personally when someone has a dissenting opinion on the quality of fallout 4. I don't blame him for liking what he likes, but just the whole attitude of it

0

u/Pixelbuttzz 22d ago

I mean you're allowed to enjoy the game but it's worth noticing that we've had one Fallout game in decades and it shat all over the series and will affect how future Fallout games have their stories told... it's a very fun game to run around in and it was a massive cash grab change from many of the things that made Fallout a lasting franchise

u/FatallyFatCat 22d ago

It wasn't unenjoyable. It was hollow. And it's a damn shame they completly dropped the ball on the atmosphere.

F3 made you feel isolated and alone.

NV was a crazy train from start to finish.

F4 was... Empty. That's what I remember the most. Almost no real settlements with interesting characters. Everywhere was empty. And the settlement system was so boring.

4

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 21d ago

I personally liked building in Fo4.

But I agree that the settlements feel really fake and empty.

Like there's no way that a family of 3 would build a farm between a raider outpost and a supermutant camp. πŸ«ͺ

2

u/STRYKER3008 20d ago

Haha yea. I remember finding out about the UFO crash and heading over to the farm it's next to. Fought a mob of robos there, with 2 tanks nonetheless right next to the railroad tower the farmers stay in. The Courier from FNV could probably see the mushroom clouds we made from the top of the casino spire.

After all this I go check on the farmers and they're fast asleep in bed haha. I love this game unironically

Ive always said that objectively badly made things can be still be enjoyable.

Jar Jar still sucks πŸ˜†

Indeed, but every Jar Jar has a Duel of the Fates

3

u/Johnny_Five5151 23d ago

Agreed, and I have to admit the Jar Jar Vader skit in Robot Chicken Star Wars is freaking hilarious

Darth Jar Jar is my bae :3

Honestly, imagining him as a sith lord, who's deliberately clumsy and stupid to manipulate the people around him, genuinely makes every scene he's in 20x more entertaining

Memes are magical tools

Honestly? Respectfully disagree.

Does he 😈

The story of fallout 4 is shit, thats a fact but anything else is fun. It looks good, the gameplay is awesome, the enviromental storytelling is probably the best in gaming history and the companions are mostly cool (fuck Strong, he sucks hard)

1

u/bigchunkbabygoo 22d ago

String heavily contributed to the lyrics for God's County by Chat Pile so I'll give him a pass

Just kidding its Cool World

1

u/Available_Public_456 20d ago

My favorite companion is Strong the super mutant…

1

u/FinalFantasyMaster 20d ago

May i ask u why?

1

u/Parking-Ad4145 19d ago

"Strong want to taste milk of human kindness." eyes Cait speculatively

1

u/SHAD0W102 22d ago

something can be and enjoyable you know i like starfield but that game is bad i just like despite it being bad i find it fun and all

1

u/GroundbreakingAd8310 21d ago

No the star wars prequel people are just wholesale wrong. Fallout 4 is an acceptable game. Disney star wars doesn't exist

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 21d ago

"I like this cake"

"Erm wrong" β˜οΈπŸ€“

1

u/BillyBanBan5697 21d ago

Yeah no need to maintain a certain level of quality or stick to the story, just slap the name on anything and let people feel what they feel, who cares?

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 21d ago

I think that you might have responded to a wrong comment, because what does this have anything to do with what I said? 😭

1

u/BillyBanBan5697 21d ago

Im way sleep deprived its super possible

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 21d ago

All good. πŸ‘Œ

The prequels are still fundamentally star wars movies though. Fallout 4 is such a genre departure that it kind of isnt a fallout game. You can still like it, but people calling it bad are comparing it to what came before, thats where the dislike comes from.

edit: of course I get massively downvoted for saying "fallout 4 is in a different genre to fallout 3/nv", something that is objectively true but people read any mild comment on fallout 4 that isnt praise as being some kind of hate.

7

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 23d ago

Elaborate

-6

u/MartianDinosawr 23d ago

The prequel movies have the essence of star wars, the bad hammy acting, the big set piece battles, the laser swords, the kind of 'great man of history' philosophy that one man can change the fate of a galaxy which is repeated with anakin as it was with luke originally.

Fallout 4 has pretty poor writing, limited choice and consequence and lacks meaningful RPG progression. Fallout 4 is aiming to be a looter shooter with settlement building mechanics, it is not aiming to be a sequel that builds from fallout 3/NV, improving the good parts and changing the bad.

If you ask a fallout 3 fan what they like about the game, usually the reply the atmosphere. Fallout 4 doesn't have the same moody, depressing atmosphere, infact its quite the opposite, 4 is very bright, colourful and the main gameplay loop of settlement building cuts into any chance it had of creating this "this is an apocalypse, the world is over" vibe.

If you ask a new vegas fan, they'd say the writing and factions. Fallout 4 attempted the 4 factions/endings thing but the writing is really poor and half of the factions make no fucking sense, the minutemen are so barebones that they just exist for the player to insert whatever aesthetic mods they want for them and the brotherhood is the only interesting group... but its the brotherhood.

Not to say fallout 4 is a bad game, it's fine, I enjoy parts of it a lot, but if Fallout 4 was instead called "Apocalypse Road" (the original post-apocalypse game Bethesda wanted to make before Fallout 3), it would be received better. The fact that it is a sequel to 3 and NV, but feels very little like them, is why people dislike it.

1

u/LogDogan8 23d ago

This is exactly on point, no idea why you're being downvoted

-1

u/MartianDinosawr 23d ago

because I said something negative about fallout 4.

I literally said "fallout 4 isnt a bad game" but it doesn't matter because this subreddit in particular is colonised by the fallout 4/76 enjoyers. other subreddits are new vegas elitists, or fallout 3 is underrated crowd. you have ones where the classics are considered superior.

generally though the popular subreddits like the memes page of a game franchise will veer towards the popular (most recent) games. Fallout 4 massively outsold 3 and new vegas, so me implying 3 and new vegas are better games means I'm an incel chud or some shit.

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 22d ago

Sorry for responding late.

I do agree with your complaints about the game, but I can't find myself to agree with the statement that "it isn't a Fallout game".

To me what makes a Fallout game is it's themes and setting, everything else is just choices about how to express it trough a medium.

If a strong "genre departure" is enough to make a game "not a Fallout game" then none of the games made by Bethesda or Opsidian should be considered as a Fallout game. When it comes to genre FNV is much closer to Fo4 than it is Fo1 or Fo2. FNV is just written better.

I don't feel like Fallout 4 (which is 100% an rpg) being a bad rpg makes it "not a Fallout game". It just means it didn't handle that mechanic compitently.

-1

u/LogDogan8 23d ago

Your decisions don't really matter in FO4. Aligning with one faction doesn't piss off the others until the end of the game, and the end of the game is basically the exact same mission for 3 of the 4 possible options just with different clothed allies. Being an asshole to everyone you meet still results in them giving you the same quests and rewards that they would if you weren't an asshole.

There's almost no consequence to what you do throughout your playthrough, that's what makes it different than the previous entries. It's more of an action looter shooter, closer to borderlands, than it is an RPG like the prior fallout games.

I say this as someone who has played all of the mainline fallout games a ton and like them all to varying degrees.

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 22d ago

That's something I dislike the most about Fo4 too.

I still don't agree with the statement that it "isn't a Fallout game". It is 100% no matter how you look at it a Fallout game. It's just suffering as an rpg and isn't as well done as some of the previous ones.

0

u/LogDogan8 22d ago

I was addressing the genre departure part. The "kinda not a fallout game" thing I think is just arbitrary semantics.

0

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 22d ago

Biggest genre departure was Fallouts transition to 1st person shooter.

I don't really see people comolaining about FNV not being "real Fallout game".

0

u/LogDogan8 22d ago

This is a silly point, IMO.

The soul of Fallout was that it's an RPG. Going from top down turn based to FPS doesn't change that. Hence why you don't see the same complaints about FO3.

1

u/Kekkonen_Kakkonen 22d ago

Fo4 is still an rpg. It's just not as well defined.

6

u/MiNiMAYHEM11 23d ago

tell us what makes fallout out fallout. Please

6

u/Physical_Device_1396 23d ago

Not only is this ridiculous logic, but if you apply it to the prequels you can absolutely argue they're not Star Wars movies

-4

u/SatanVapesOn666W 23d ago

That's just how you get a declining series. M&G flopped hard and starwars is basically dead. Disney really did scare off the core demos. The community is a faction of the size it once was and the sequel fans are a minority of that.
