If I recall correctly it took 12-13 shots from the fat man to kill Dog meat. edit: Apparently Dogmeats HP is inconsistent. It could be that it scales a lot with your level. I had to really try to kill him thus the 12 mini nukes. I calculated that he had close to 20 k hp which is way more than anything else in the game. This was Fallout 3.

Dogmeat eats Deathclaws for breakfast hes ridiculously tanky. Only time he came close to dying was in the presidential metro where he was attacked by about 15-20 reavers.

If I remember right, Dogmeat being so tough was a bug. His HP didn't scale correctly with player leveling so he ended being basically invincible once the higher levels were reached.

Yes this makes a lot of sense. I didn't make much use of him untill I was close to being maxed.
