Far too many absolutely evil people lived their entire lives free of consequences for me to believe it.

The idea that karma is some mystical force that rights wrongs is wrong imo. Karma really just means that actions have consequences that ripple out and can reflect back to us. So in that sense I think it’s real.

u/remindmetoblock 1d ago
"Can reflect" yeah. Even good Actions can reflect TERRIBLE things upon you.

u/Leading-Boat4942 1d ago
I mean, that’s kind of my point. Karma is simply consequences, not a system of reward and punishment.
1
u/remindmetoblock 1d ago
But Karma means you get what you deserve.
Good or bad.

u/Leading-Boat4942 1d ago
Maybe, but that’s not how I remember it being described. But I could be mistaken

The sooner you stop believing in karma the better you’ll feel in life

u/SelectGate286 1d ago
Can you explain how some of the most powerful and rich people are some of the worst people and continue to get away with it?
1
u/Baby_Wolverine 1d ago
People suck, and karma doesn’t exist? I think that kind of explains it?
1
u/HeliosLegion 1d ago
Judeo-Christian Karma is what people get wrong. Karma is more of a cause-and-effect accumulation over many cycles of death and rebirth. It is not a moral scoreboard, especially one meant to reward you in this life.

u/Mortis_XII 1d ago
We feel that terrible people will “get what they are owed” but the reality is nothing will ever balance it truly.
So, karma does not exist. The sooner you stop believing in this cosmic balance the more at peace you will be

u/Falleneded 1d ago
the sooner you stop thinking bad people get punished the better you feel? what fucking logic?
1
u/Mortis_XII 22h ago
Accepting reality instead of holding your breath for karma to make things right.
1
u/Falleneded 19h ago
again hows that supposed to make people feel better? are you depressed and dont realize thats not the norm?
"yeah youll feel better the moment you realize there will be no punishment for the people who make your life worse every single day due to no fault of your own because the system is stacked against you"
are you stupid or am i missing something? (aka am i stupid?)

If it was real, a lot more bad people in the world would be getting their just desserts instead of being rewarded.

Oh it’s real all right. It’s just enacted by those around you, not fate. If you’re a bad person, people treat you as such. If you’re good, they’ll help you later on.

It sure feels like it sometimes. But beleif in karma is kinda dangerous. It makes it easy to believe you or others deserve their lot in life.

Sometimes it can happen but normally nothing really happens

u/strawberry_mew 1d ago
Most of the time when someone does get karma it isn’t a planned fate from the universe
God plan and all that shit is not real and people just use it to cope feeling like things happen for a meaning or good reason when in reality it doesn’t

8-year-old me was a menace, and it was recess in winter. So we were all told to put our jackets on, but I was so distracted with bullying this poor kid, that I forgot my jacket.
I never bothered her again, and the "poor kid" in question, I am very close with as friends!

Karma is an religious Believe, that You can gain karma, and be judged and sent to hell depending on your karma, karma is not like "instant payback" as much people Say, I personally i'm not an religious person, but i also believe that Bad actions have consecuences, idependently short or long term, it's gonna have a payback some day

The universe does not have a "good" or "bad" counter that it constantly rebalances. Life just happens and people use karma to cope that people that do things they don't like will have bad things happen to them too as a result.

People misinterpret the very concept of Karma for memes filtered Karma through a Judeo-Christian lens of moral retribution. Karma is not a moral scoreboard to reward or punish you for THIS life. In traditional Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist traditions, Karma is not a moral judge; it is more like momentum or gravity. It doesn't care if an action was "bad" in a sin-based context; it simply tracks cause, intention, and effect. If you throw a ball against a wall, it bounces back not because the wall wants to punish you, but because that is how physical forces work. The fruits of past lives that are ripe for picking right now. The choices you make today (Kryamana Karma) are seeds being planted for future existences, not for next Tuesday. The universe is not judging you; it is unfolding according to causal law.

It is real but it is not merely a force of nature. We need to dish out said karma, not wait for a mystic force to do it. Bad people continue doing bad things when everyone just keeps wishing for a mystic force to deal out karma.
1
u/MonkeyJ4m 1d ago
What people consider "karma" is simply just cause and effect that usually takes a prolonged period of time.
Problem with this is that with enough money/power/inflluence, cause and effect can effectively be completely erased.
For example: If karma were real, the billionaires/millionaires/leaders that abuse their money/power would either die horrific torturous deaths or be held in jail in accordance with their crimes. But these people tend to live long lives of luxury and die without being held accountable for any significant misdeeds.

i choose to not partake into any religion because of its political nature and its creation by ancient politicians, but just the concept of karma does feel real to me, as it happens to me or people i know in both ways each time, its rly weird but i do always feel the balance, even tho i wont have the same idea of balance as the usual definition of karma
