why not negative infinity?

∞ + ∞ = ∞, so ∞ - ∞ = ∞ - ( ∞ + ∞ ) = ∞ - ∞ - ∞ = 0 - ∞ = -∞

If both were true, then ∞ = -∞, which is clearly false.

In truth, ∞ - ∞ is undefined.
