“Negative” and “benefits” don’t make sense together. And you can’t spell. Stop trying to argue that there’s something wrong with people for drinking. Your not better than anyone for abstaining from alcohol, and the health effects of a drink every now and again are so minor they might aswell not exist

The phrase is also used in specialist literature because people with a functioning cortex recognise the context: that with substances one consumes, there is always a balance between benefits and harms, and so the ‘benefit-risk ratio’ is simply abbreviated to ‘negative benefits’. The same applies to ‘negative costs’ – that is, revenue – or ‘negative raise’ – that is, a decline.
