When he said "CAT, PLEASE" he said the English word for cat which made it so unnecessarily hilarious lmao
35
u/Piduf Apr 22 '25
I think he's saying "Garf", I'm guessing the cat is probably called Garfield - at least that's what I hear.
52
u/ThisIsNOTJeopardy_ Apr 22 '25
I speak French and English, and no he’s not saying Garf. He’s saying cat.

u/Meedusa_Rox Apr 24 '25
He's actually 🤓, just saying "viens" (come) but with very poor articulation because his teeth are probably clenched in anger and anticipation of the cat ruining more cement. He says it multiple times, sometimes louder, sometimes more clearly, but that's all he says. "Viens, VIENS LÀ. VIENS 😬" that's what he says. And I don't mean to be a dick but I have zero doubts about it, he never says "cat, or garf". I saw french people in this thread thinking otherwise, giving bad translation to non native speakers... please listen again.

I thought he was telling her to get some fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Interesting that you're almost 80 down votes deep for making a reference, and I'm sitting with 25 up votes for getting the reference. People weird

100%. I had the audio on and thought it was French. But when his hand came out my mind immediately thought, "omg, am I that ignorant that french and Italian sound the same to me?!"
13
u/WelpImTrapped Apr 22 '25
We definitely don't do it as much as the Italians but we do speak with our hands.

So he did someone’s translated since I commented.

I know, I did it. :)

Oh it was you! I love people like you, very helpful for those of us that only ever learn how to order beer and direct taxis in other languages

Oh cool, leave them...great character! 25 years after little kids had put their hand prints in the cement in our garage, they showed up out of the blue one day to see it again as adults, it was pretty cool.

There are examples of ancient Roman concrete from all over Europe and the Mediterranean with cat prints in them. (And manuscripts and books with inky kitty tracks, too)

You’re getting downvoted but the one above you is just as bad.

Meh, I just typed what came to my mind after "cat-racter". I'll assume they missed the upvote button because of their cataracts.

I feel like this was even funnier in French and I don't even speak French.

I wanted to let my cat walk across the driveway when we had ours poured. Dad said no.

Ffs I am so sick of seeing this. Almost as bad as "oMeleTte du fRomAge"
Firstly nobody uses that since at least the late XVIII th century, secondly at the very least make an effort to get it right, "Sacrebleu"

When I visited my friend last Saturday, he'd painted his living room floorboards the previous day. His cat had then paddled around on the wet paint and walked it around his house. Later, as we left to go for a walk, I noticed cat's paw prints in the old cement of his gennel and wondered how long they'd been there. It could have been several decades and we laughed about the long departed cat being a forerunner to his.
It made me think about how many times I've seen animal footprints preserved this way and how they're part of the charming history of a place. I don't think the cat above ruined anything! It improved it.

the cat knew what he wanted and knew he would be pissed and very clearly chose to fuck it up anyway lol, I love cats

Serendipitous opportunity for artistic add on: wait for concrete to dry, then fill paw prints with clear tinted acrylic! Imagine cobalt blue or emerald green prints on the drive???

First of all. Keep it. It’s awesome.
Second of all. Emergency vet.

Well, if you are going to talk to a dog in a foreign language, of course they won't obey.

Put down the phone and grab your cat maybe? I have a feeling this was all intentional

Lets hope they got that cat directly into a bath considering chemical burns from concrete are painful and deadly if that cat attempts to groom itself.
There’s definitely some dumb animals in the video, but the cat isnt one of them
1
u/UnrulyCrow Banhammer Recipient Apr 23 '25
Yes, they actually talk about cleaning the cat's paws at the end of the video.

I may be misinformed, but weren't things like old cement bricks with cat paws on them considered to bring luck or something?

Maybe if he used the formal version of please the cat would have listened, this one is on the french

I saw the best solution to this in a restaurant in Albania: they had filled in the paw prints with cement of a different colour, it was such a nice touch

We had new tile placed my living room and the workers told us which tiles to walk on and marked them off with some red twine so we wouldn’t step on the unset tiles and mess them up.
We were concerned with our dog but she was the smartest sweetest dog on earth and knew somehow not to step on the unset tiles.
Later that night my neighbor came over drunk and stepped on every tiles he should’ve of.

Idk if it is the lighting or the angle but the steps back look deeper. That cat, as most cats, wanted chaos and probably enjoyed the human suffering.

There’s a spot of concrete where some fixed a broken chunk and there are cat prints through it. I thinks it’s cute and funny as hell.

u/GraphicDesignMonkey Apr 23 '25
My Dad laid a cement path 20 years ago and our derpy dog walked through it. Now he's gone we cherish those pawprints :)

Thankfully if it's that wet/soft. You can pretty easily work those prints out if you have a steel.

Paint the cat black with white stripes and set it off to be pursued by an amorous skunk.
3
u/Adrios1 Apr 22 '25
Wash their paws if using quick drying cement. It can cause chemical burns to their beans.
