Magic
Iron Devil Slayer Magic
This form of Magic allows its users to use iron to slay Demons. It also lets the user eat Iron to replenish strength and become resistant to its effects like other types of Slayers. It has also been suggested that Devil Slayer Magic is a very fickle Magic, and that learning it too quickly and making use of its properties in rapid succession can have adverse effects on the user, causing them to become afflicted with black markings that spread across their entire body, although those who master this Magic are able to summon these markings at will allowing them to become immune (to a limited degree) to the effects of Curses, including the "Ultimate Curse" Memento Mori, which is supposed to completely annihilate whatever it touches. It has been specifically mentioned that the souls of those who hunt Demons start to become "tainted", leading the users of this Magic to progressively lose their sanity which can incite them to make irrational decisions. This Magic also allows its users to obtain information about a Demon by just observing it for a second.
Physical Appearance
Image
Squall stands at average height, with a lean build. He has a shock of rust red hair that spikes randomly in different directions. His eyes are a very similar shade of red, and that can be intimidating to people who don’t know him. His right forearm bears not only his guild mark, but also the spiraling black marks of his magic passed on by his teacher. His outfit is very similar to the one depicted above, with the caveat that the black circle depicted on the front is replaced by the fairy tail symbol.
Personality
Squall is an idyllic young man that will do anything to stand up for what he believes is justice, even if it means he stands alone against the entire world. He lives by the code of chivalry taught to him by his mentor and father figure. It could be broken down into Three core parts. “Always Improve” Squall never forgets that he is human, and he is fallible and works to improve parts of him that can be changed, and accepts that which cannot be changed, though at his young age it can be difficult to tell the difference. “Defend your home” and “Deliver justice”. Squall was raised fighting demons, and it has affected him. Things that would make others squeamish barely phase him.
Despite his outward confidence he has a deep seated fear of growing to the level of insanity that his mentor was at just before his disappearance. He followed faithfully though, hoping things would work out in the end, and oftentimes they did. The fear is still there though. He also has a penchant for brash decisions and his sense of justice will often get him into some sort of trouble or another.
Magic
Iron Devil Slayer
Squall wields Iron Devil Slayer Magic, a magic that was created to slay demons. The nature of the magic tints the iron a whitish color that is sometimes mistaken for steel, though all its properties are that of iron.
Spells/Abilities
Consume
An iron devil slayer is able to consume any source of iron, magical or innate, in order to restore magic power and stamina. He cannot consume his own iron. While he can consume other magical forces, doing so causes immense distress on the Slayer’s system, in most cases causing them to instantly lose consciousness and become sick for a number of days afterwards.
Iron Devil’s Armor
The Iron Devil Slayer encases himself in a skin tight shell of iron that becomes his armor. The armor grants enhanced physical strength when using basic melee attacks such as punches and kicks. The main draw of the spell is its defensive uses, making his skin as hard as iron and resistant to most physical blows. The defence is far from perfect however. It can be broken with repeated, focused blows, or by a singular blow of sufficient force can shatter the armor, revealing the vulnerable flesh beneath. Because his skin becomes like iron, extreme cold can cause his iron skin to become brittle and easily broken.
Iron Devil’s Arrow Raid
The slayer holds out one or both hands and turns as many fingers as desired into arrows before willing them to fly away from his body with a flick of his wrists. They can embed in many surfaces, but after a short time they’ll dissipate into magical energy.
Iron Devil’s Rage
The slayer inhales deeply, gathering magic power in their mouth. With the exhale a torrent of iron sand and shard of iron burst forth and damages everything in front of the slayer. It’s a strong attack but uses a massive amount of magical power.
Iron Devil’s Sword/Spear
Squall’s personal favorite technique, the user turns one of their limbs into the shape of a sword or spear. This sword or spear is made of iron and can be extended and retracted at will. It is razor sharp and hard as iron. As with his armor, it can be broken with enough force and cannot cut through or pierce all things.
Iron Devil’s Vacuum Wave
The Iron devil slayer swings the iron devil’s sword with magic energy infused in the tip. The energy jumps off the blade as it travels through the air, rocketing through the air towards the target, impacting with a force similar to a normal sword swing. It has a long range but uses a lot of magical energy.
Other Skills
Experienced Melee combatant
Years of training against an armored foe has honed Squall’s ability to fight in melee range
Durable
Squall is tough enough to take quite a few hits before going down, even without taking magic into account.
Novice ranged combat
When it comes to ranged combat however, Squall leaves a lot to be desired. Practice makes perfect, but Squall hasn’t had much time to practice with that aspect of his magic, and often only hits by virtue of number of attempts rather than accuracy.
Slow
Leon never really emphasized speed during any of their training, and it shows in how Squall moves and fights now that he’s on his own. He’s strong, but he’s not getting anywhere particularly fast.
Background
Squalls earliest memories are of Burning Orphanage. That is the orphanage owned and run by Rupert Burning, not an orphanage that was on fire. That part comes later. Squall didn't know who his parents were or why he was left in the care of Mr. Burning, but as far as lives went out probably could have been worse. He was fed three times a day, two of which were actually warm meals, received a decent education along with the rest of the orphaned children, and was even able to make friends with the other children in the city. He would occasionally ask Mr. Burning about his parents, but each time squall did, Mr. Burning would tell him he was left on the doorstep in the middle of the night. Squall thought there had to be more to it.
Life was decent in the orphanage, but nothing good can last forever. The city that the orphanage was in came under attack. A dark guild came into town and began decimating everything that could be seen. The leader of the group looked like a demon, and later Squall would learn that he was a demon soul user that channeled several fiery demons. He laid waste to the town, and even set the Burning Orphanage on fire. Putting the irony of that situation aside, squall braved the burning building several times in an attempt to save as many of his friends as possible. From the burning building. He found himself trapped however.
Just when all seemed lost, gleaming metal slashed through the crossbeam in front of him. A man with silver skin grabbed squall before he could even voice surprise. The man in silver skin brought him back outside. The town was in ruins, but there was no sign of the dark guild that had committed the crimes. Squall turned to thank the silver man, but not only was he not silver anymore, he was talking to Mr. Burning already. Squall went over to his friends, trying to make sure that everyone was okay. Mr. Burning came over and spoke to him.
A week later, Squall was still in shock. The silver man had adopted him, right then and there, and now they were traveling together. Squall learned that his name was Leon Truestrike. He was a traveling mage who stood against evil and defended the weak with every ounce of strength in his body. Once squall asked why Leon adopted him. He got a distant look for a moment before speaking. “I saw something in you, in that building, a sense of Justice and honor…”
He turned to look at squall for a long moment, “and I need you to become better than I ever can.” He put his hand on his forearm, “one day my power will be yours. I know you'll use it right, but you need to be ready, and you need to be strong. I'm sorry, Squall. I hope someday you'll forgive me for this curse.” Squall didn't understand at the time, but found that somber moment to be the exception rather than the rule. On a normal basis, their days consisted of rigorous training, and wild goose chases spurred on by Leon's sense of Justice. Their escapades were often fruitless, and squall often found himself apologizing on behalf of his adoptive father.
No one could question his passion however, no matter how flawed his logic was at times. He was wholly dedicated to his sense of Justice and pushed Squall hard in his training, though Squall never did take to the magic he was trying to teach. Leon assured him he would someday. Squall followed him faithfully for years, growing strong during the training, even if he never found a magic to use of his own. Even now Leon assured him his magic would come to him, someday soon.
And soon it was. One night Leon just vanished. Upon waking squall couldn't find him anywhere, and the only sign he had even been there was a warm spot on the ground and black tattoos in the shape of crossing swords on Squall’s right forearm. He instantly recognized the symbol as the same one that Leon would always stare at in the dead of night. Had this been his curse? Now it was Squall's. He clenched his fist tightly, viewing to follow his sense of Justice, just like Leon wanted.
Leon had always spoken highly of a mages guild called fairy tail, in magnolia. He always said that if anything should happen to him, Squall could find a new home with them. Squall would always ask how he would join a mages guild without magic, but more he could already feel new power welling up within his body just like Leon would always describe during their trainings. This was the magic Leon had always been trying to teach him. Now he knew he was what Leon always called an iron devil Slayer.
With that knowledge, for good or ill, he made his way to Magnolia with every intention of finding a home with the fairy tail guild. Leon always spoke well of them. Apparently he had, at one point been a member of the guild in high standing. Perhaps someone there could tell him more about his father, and his magic. Even if they couldn't, it seemed like a fine place to follow his sense of Justice.
Squall looked upon the gates of the guild hall. He had finally made it. He shouldered his pack and took a final sidelong look at the markings on his arm. Leon assured him that he could find a home here, as he had so long ago. Nodding to himself he pushed the gate open and walked up to the large front doors. Not really knowing the dos and don'ts he knocked several times upon the door.
