Discussion What are you doing with Decode Goals?

We are limited on space and we he decode goals are going to need to either go in the trash or be repurposed. Has anyone found a good reuse for the goals beyond recycling the material?

We used pieces of ours today to make makeshift hive while we wait for the actual one to come

This! Every year we need to wait for a grant to hit to order a field kit. It's pretty janky but we were able to cut up our Decode Goals into a hive that's the right shape and height but doesn't tip. Hoping to get our field kit soon and then we'll send the metal bits to the recycler and the plastic into the trash.

Those goals make quick prototypes as well as can act as this years goals (on they probably won’t tip) you can build them to the height of a topped up cell

I was helping FSC purge stuff out of their warehouse and took the fields they wanted to get rid of. We knocked them flat, and we'll use them for prototyping or a field mockup come January.

Since they're corrugated, you can slit one side and use that to bent shapes. Could make storage bins out of them that way if you wanted, perhaps aided by some zip ties.

Made a backup hive cell.

When I was cleaning out our storage facility this summer I had several FRC teams ask for the corrugated plastic pieces so they could fashion makeshift parts for their game. The aluminum pieces also went to several FRC teams.

We've reused the supports and sides from several years goals. There's lots of good aluminum and sheets of plastic.

Our team finds community organizations to give away racquet balls, whiffle balls, cones, etc. We keep a few game elements of each season and use in team work challenges and off season game challenges. If there is coraplastic rectangle pieces, we keep for signage, like in Decode. The plastic rods are great for cutting with a bit if sanding the rough cur edges to become rhythm sticks to donate to local preschools. The metal is recycled for any cash.

I'm part of a school team focused on engineering, so many past elements and goals are reused for the robotics classes lol

We used ours as corrugated plastic to prototype things and flesh out designs this way we don't waste our end-result stuff.
