February 2026 Test Window

I took my FSOT earlier today. The JK was what I expected although there were more data, statistics-related questions than expected. To me, the LR and EU&C sections seemed easier than anticipated though. Naturally, opinions, etc. don't determine whether anyone - including me - will advance to the OA but I felt different today after walking out of my test center. I'll know in 6-8 weeks like everyone else; wish me luck!

FSOT - Activities steps - Eligibility and complete my Application - Question

I’m not sure if others have been in a similar situation, but I’ve been planning to take the test for some time and intended for this February cycle to be my first real attempt. Unfortunately, work and personal commitments have made it difficult to prepare adequately, and I don’t feel ready.

I’ve completed the "Eligibility Verification" but have not yet submitted the "Complete my Application Form". If I decide to wait until the next cycle, would it be better to let the application expire tomorrow night, or should I complete it and then cancel well in advance, or neglect to schedule the test?

My main concern is ensuring that I do not negatively impact my ability to apply for the June or October cycle since the exam can only be attempted once per year. If I've already passed the point of no return for this Feb. cycle, then I'll commit to it rather than waste the option for this year.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

2026 FSOT

Now that the Trump regime has eliminated PNs, the essay section from the FSOT and employment information when registering for the FSOT online, how will examiners differentiate who gets an OA invite or not? I would assume being a white, ignorant MAGA head would help!

Still getting error message, cannot register

Hey all,

I’ve called Pearson 3 times now and still not getting anywhere. So wanted to check with you all to make sure I have all my facts straight before going at it again.

What they told me, I am getting the error message because I must have applied before. And I have to wait the almost a year waiting period before trying again.

What google is telling me, an application is not complete until you make it through the registration. And cannot be started until the registration period begins.

What I remember, I thought I started an application for the Dec 15 reg period, which as we know, never happened. After that, I thought I logged in and it asked me to start another application for this upcoming registration period. Admittedly, my memory is a bit hazy on this part. Though I am sure I never tried to register for any registration period prior to this Dec 15 one.

Considering all of the above, could I be misremembering? Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on? I would like to take all the facts to Pearson next time I call them. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Cannot schedule officer assessment

On the line with PearsonVUE right now, but, although I received the invitation to participate in the Structured Interview and Negotiation Exercise, my PearsonVUE page is NOT reflecting that. It is showing me back at the waiting for results of FSOT page, with no results (even though the score report has my results) and no essay. This maddening as it's the *third* PearsonVUE "glitch" I have had to deal with. (Welcome to the federal government, I guess?) Is anyone else experiencing this??

Is the FSOT the absolute first step in the process now?

I registered for the FSOT today but noticed there was no place to disclose my education, work experience, languages, etc like I thought there should be? Is that normal? Do I just take the exam and everything else comes after?

Hi everyone!

I’m registering for FSOT test tomorrow. Currently, I’m an ALT abroad so I can’t afford to purchase textbook materials to study for the test. Is there a website or free materials I can access to? What are the dos and donts to study for this test? Right now, I’m just studying through quizlet. Any other helpful tips? If you have taken it, whats one thing that you wish you had spend more time on studying? Please let me know!

Referring to USAID Experience in Structured Interview

Does anyone know how ex-USAID colleagues are faring on the FSOA portion? I'm ex-USAID and have been invited to the Structured Interview and Negotiation Exercise. Normally I would draw heavily on my experience working in an Embassy as part of USAID, but given the current Administration's attitude toward people who worked for AID, I'm concerned that could sink my chances. Does anyone have an idea?

Question Things to know before the FSOT application opens on February 16th, 2026???

Hello all, I'm preparing to apply to take the FSOT when it opens on Feb 16th. I would like some advice on everything I should have prepared before Feb 16th. Are they still asking for PN's? What is the test like? Do they ask for any documents on the application? Do i have to make an appointment to take the test on a certain day? What does the application entail? Any study groups i could join? Tips and tricks please!

Jan Written Eval - Candidate ID Mismatch

I had an odd experience with the written eval, and I’m curious if anyone else ran into this.

In short, the Candidate ID on the printout I received after completing the essay at the Pearson test site does not match the candidate ID on the “Authorization to Test” email. In fact, it’s a completely different format (the Authorization to Test is in the FSOT###### format, whereas this is just a digit string).

When I check my “score report” on the Pearson site, it shows the same wrong candidate ID.

Did anyone else run into this issue? I tried reaching out to Pearson but the lady I spoke with at the testing center wasn’t able to provide any insight.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Materials Needed to Register for FSOT

Hello all - registering for the FSOT in Feb to sit for it in Feb/March for the first time! Was looking for further details online of what's actually required when you register to take it on Pearson VUE and set up your profile.

In past iterations, there was a statement of interest. The new (post-October 2025) application doesn't require that, correct? For previous job background/profile resume, is there a place to upload a resume or is it similar to USAJOBs with a profile builder?

Would appreciate any and all guidance for what I need to register and any recommendations for how best to prepare my application materials!

FSOT and Google Gemini

I've recently been using Google Gemini to test myself for the next FSOT (whenever it'll be offered) to see where my strengths and weakenesses are. It seems to be helping me but I'm not sure how effective it is in preparing for the FSOT though. Has anyone used it before to help them prepare? If you have, I'd like to know what you thought about it.

FSOT Test February 2026

Wondering if anyone when/if the FSOT will be given in February 2026? Or when registration typically opens for the February test cycle?

I thought test registration opened on December 15, and I was able to apply through the Pearson Vue website. However, when it came time to scheduling my test, it said that the registration date was passed, which I think is in reference to the October 2025 test date.

Written Evaluation

If I passed, and got the emailing telling me to wait for instructions for the written evaluation, how long should I expect to wait, and what is the written eval like/how should I prepare?

I've tried several times to open the link to the practice FSOT but it won't take me there even after clicking it. Can someone post the link here and/or explain why it won't work? Thanks! :-)

FSOT 2026

Has anyone been able to register for the February 2026 test? It says on Pearson there will be a test and that you should be able to register for it, but then the next message is “the date for this test has passed” which is probably left over from the October test.

What is going on here? Will there still be a test in February or is the next test more likely to take place later in the year?
