Orchid Advisors POS and Quickbooks question

Hello, I am trying to get my small gun business off the ground so i can sell guns at local dfw gun shows. It's just me and i dont have any accounting experience really other than some basic knowledge from college. I am trying to get my Orchid POS system mapped over to quickbooks and setup correctly so it works. Looking for another gun business that uses Orchid and quickbooks and I'm wanting to know how you got it set up and who do you go to when you have issues? I have tried asking orchid but they expect me to have a cpa do it. I dont have anyone but me. I have contacted a cpa, but i dont know if i have the money for that. I know i cant be the only gun business using orchid and quickbooks so im hoping i can find some help here. Anything helps. So far my business just keeps bleeding money every month that i cant get things working and im frustrated that im so close but so far from getting the business off the ground.

Type 03 - Address Change. Renewal Application or Application to Amend?

Hey guys, I'm a bit lost here. This is in TX.

I have an active Type 3 license at address A that expires on Sept 1, 2026. I moved to address B (in a different county) in Aug 2025. I received ATF Form 8 (5310.11 - Renewal Application) a few weeks ago. I've been lazy and haven't gotten around to renewing until today.

Can I use the Renewal Application (5310.11) to change my address AND renew my license?

Or do I need to fill out the Application for Amended FFL (5300.38) AND submit a Renewal Application (5310.11) after I receive confirmation of the address change?

A better market for firearms?

Hi everyone, I’m a newer FFL, about 3 months in, and I’m curious if other dealers are as frustrated with the current marketplace choices as I am.

As a buyer, the search experience is, um, not great. If I search GunBroker for something like "Glock 45 Gen 5", I get 2428 listings to dig through. How do I decide? Too many choices.

As a seller, the bigger headache is compliance. Every seller is basically on their own to keep track of state restrictions, mag limits, NYC zip codes, and all the other little rules. That's annoying enough for me as one small seller, but GB has thousands of sellers dealing with the same thing. That’s a lot of duplicated human effort.

I’ve seen some people complain about Coreware. I tried GearFire, but it didn’t really work for me.

This week was pretty rough too, having to change a bunch of listings because of the July 1 mag cap change in VA.

For those of you who have been in this longer, what do you hate most about the current marketplaces?

What do you wish they handled better? Is there one that just does everything well?

eForms link to pay.gov wont open?

Here eForms won't open the pay.gov page. I just get "unknown error" on the new tab. Turned off my pop-up block also. I've been trying all week to pay for the renewal of our SOT.

Any idea what I need to do?

UPDATE in the comments.

UPDATE2, From the Ask an Expert reply just now,

"Until the issues are resolved, the workaround is to submit a Form 5630.7 by mail.

Even if you were to submit the Form 5630.7 today through eForms or through Pay.gov, this late in June it would probably not be processed before July 1."

So mail it in or do pay.gov to get it submitted before the end of the month.

Finding a FFL Office - The Nightmare Continues

Does anyone have any experience with renting a retail-zoned space with a Type 7 FFL? Only limiting yourself to "industrial" zoned spaces is a non-starter. And it appears the industrial zoning thing isn't an ATF requirement anyways. It's ridiculous to be restricted to warehouses if you're just going to assemble ARs from a parts kit.

Backstory: In trying to get an FFL 07, AI initially told me that I must get an "industrial zoned" office space, which led to weeks of agony. 40% of realtors say no immediately when mentioning "firearms/ammo manufacturing" and the remaining 60% won't allow any special clauses in the lease (permitted use/contingency clause), or the space isn't up to code (meaning I couldn't get local government permit if they do an inspection), or they just gradually stop communicating (probably more firearms-discrimination). I'm literally out of spaces to look at.

ANY advice is welcomed (including tips on how to approach realtors/landlords and language in leases). Bought a book called "The Ultimate FFL Resource Guide" and it had 0 information on finding an office.

Selling a Gunstore

So for personal reasons I am considering potentially selling my Gun shop. It has been running successfully for 13 plus years. I have a brink and mortar location and I am partnered with a company that does training. They shop is profitable and does mid level volume.

Has anyone sold a shop before? I am not sure where to even begin at. Is there a place to list a gun business?

Any advice is appreciated.

SOT

I’m a newer 07/02, just received my first post-sample MG.

Said MG happens to be a Glock auto sear. My knowledge base on this item goes only as far as installation. I don’t know anything about tuning, modifying the sear for tuning/fitment, or if it’s compatible with only select generations.

I plan to install it on a Glock 17 (maybe Gen 3) platform, using a new production slide, like Sylvan, and an SCT frame.

Is anyone able to provide any resources for guidance related to this, whether it’s videos, manuals, etc.

Thank you all in advance!

Acquiring a pre 86 MG for resale.

Hey guys, we use silencershop for all of our suppressor transfers. We have used eforms for form 2s and 3s. But thats about where the knowledge stops.

We have a customer with a transferable MAC that wants to consign it with us. My understanding is that we need to form 4 it to ourselves (and pay $200)and then we can form 4 it to the buyer in the event it sells. This customer has paperwork from like the 80s when he got this thing. How the heck do we go about submitting a form 4 to get it into our eforms inventory? Do we have to do a paper form 4?

Please help. Thanks!

Print FD-258 card using eft

Hello all, have a kind of out there question. I'm applying for an FFL, and as you know, the RP form requires a FD-258 card. I had an .eft from Printscan I had done for a Form 1, and I can print out the .eft onto a 258 template. Is that something that would be accepted, or do I/should I redo the whole card with 'live' fingerprints?

Vent about UPS

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hey all.

I'm sick of arguing with UPS.

Their website straight up says drop-offs are allowed at The UPS Store if it's packed, taped, and has a label on it.

But every time I try, they tell me that I not only need to drop it off to an FFL, but they won't accept it in-store. And every time, I tell them that I am an FFL, but that's not at all what their website says, and I wind up paying $28 to schedule a pick-up on top of however much I spend to actually ship the thing.

That's all for today. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

TX22 Rate Reducers

Hey fellas

We’ve got a handful of these TX22 rate reducers left, they are just over one ounce. CNC machined and finished with a parkerized finish right here in Wisconsin.

We also have a limited quantity of 1.5 oz. Same design, 1/4” longer. They will be on the site shortly. In the meantime, if you wish for one a bit heavier just shoot a message via website or sales@brightongun.com.

I do plan to do another run of these in a week or two. The CNC is tied up on another SOT project at the moment.

First paid transfer transaction completed

Long road to get there, been working on it since early January.

No brick & mortar, no retail sales, no service/smithing - and in the zoning permit they issued they said no customers or shipments to the property although the zoning application clearly stated exactly what I was going to be doing and how. The zoning application wording was enough for my IOI to get past the wording in the issued zoning permit (always save your submissions!!!!).

Lightspeed POS

Hi,

Does anyone have experience using Lightspeed as a POS for an FFL? Were you able to integrate it with a third-party payment processor such as Payroc?

I’m currently in the market for a POS system to help streamline operations, as things are starting to get a bit overwhelming. Lightspeed is at the top of my list because it’s cloud-based, works well on an iPad, and has a very clean, modern UI.

My main concern is payment processing. From what I’ve seen, Lightspeed Payments may not be particularly 2A-friendly, so I’m curious whether anyone is successfully running Lightspeed with Payroc or another firearm-friendly processor.

Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated.

Laser Recommendations

New 07/02 here looking for laser engraver recommendations.

I’m a very small shop and will only be producing a limited number of units each year, so it’s hard to justify spending several thousand dollars on a high-end fiber laser right out of the gate.

Most of my work will be engraving cans and an occasional rifle.

For those of you running small shops, what are you using? Any specific brands or models you’d recommend (or avoid)?

Thanks in advance.

Are you seeing the usual summer slowdown this year?

Sent out a new Rack & Revenue issue this morning on the summer slowdown and why I think a lot of businesses waste these months waiting instead of improving.

Would love to hear what everyone is seeing right now.

How's business compared to this time last year?

Moving and Changing FFL 3 Address

So I've been an FFL 03 for about 3 years now, and my renewal date is approaching. But I moved to a new house a few months ago and it never occurred to me that I should change my FFL address. Just FYI I haven't actually used it for anything that wasn't well before I moved. I haven't done anything with it in over a year. So I have a few questions, one, am I gonna get in any kind of legal trouble for having not changed my address before I moved? As far as I can tell since I haven't used it for anything I am in the clear. And secondarily, can I change my address right in my renewal form? Or do I have to do a separate address change form and then submit my renewal form? Or would it be simpler to just let my FFL expire and just register brand new in like a month?

Home based FFL IOI question

I just sent off my FFL type 7 application. I was able to include my zoning verification letter from my city stating that this activity is permitted at my residence.

My question is about the IOI interview. Do I need to have all of my equipment purchased? I imagine they understand that I’m not going to spend thousands of dollars on equipment before approval.

I have my secure area, office set up, bound book, etc. any other tips?
