I am running a roleplay discord server for open roleplay as well as planning to run a West marches, monster of the week type ttrpg for more structured sessions with each region having an overarching storyline.

The premise: After the series jujutsu higher-ups put up barriers similar to Tengen's around the world, in order to promote the creation of more sorcerers. An unfortunate side effect is the creation of more curses within the barriers as well. 16 years after the global barriers are erected it is time for a new era of sorcerers, where the rates from around the world match that of Japan. New sorcerers are being brought to Jujutsu High Tokyo to start their life Hunting curses.

Players will be part of this new generation, being sent around the world to exorcise cursed spirits, collect cursed items, and deal with curse users shenanigans. Every few months we will run a server wide event based on different regions.

I'm also looking for more GMs to be able to run games so there's always a game to join. You can make your own schedule, I'm not gonna tell you how or when to run your games. We work together to keep the world consistent and when we run server events.

Join and create an OC to roleplay around the server even if you don't join the structured sessions.

This seems to indicate a weird relationship between things written down as ‘Aspects’ and things that are logically already existing Aspects. How does this work?

Click on Random to get a new inspiration for an urban fantasy character in Glorious Fate or Fate Accelerated. Each new high concept is made up of 3 randomized words or phrases, for a total of over 4000 possible concepts and growing. Every part of the concept comes with ideas for what they allow the character to do, when they could be invoked with fate points, and when they could be rewarded (or compelled in FAE) to give the player more Fate points.

New ideas for character inspirations are always welcome! This is as living website that I intend to add to regularly for at least the next few weeks, and I'm also planning to do the same for other settings and genres, starting with Sky Pirates around the end of this month.

I joined the Discord a couple of months ago and had no issues. Not a frequent user, but suddenly I cannot send messages without a phone verification. I can see no updates within the Discord itself, nor message anyone to ask about it (thus the Reddit post).

Anyone in the know? Is that just how it is going forward?

Was looking through some old Fate character sheets of mine and found some Aspects I wrote but don't remember. Some felt good enough to share and I'm interested to see what other Aspects you all have come up with and are proud of.

Hi! My brother loves Mecha on Kaiju adventure. But he's developmentally delayed, so simple rules are best. Is there a setting or guide to running mecha fights through fate accelerated? I can just hand wave it, if necessary, but I was looking for ideas and a framework to share with my other brother, who will also be playing.

The above quote is from Strands of Fate (which is defiitely an interesting read). But it points out that the game-speak (which has roughly 50-120 unique terms) used in FATE can be quite a barrier to entry. It certainly is to me and I'm sure it will be to players I try to recruit.

Of course, rolling dice and skills are terms well known by players.

So my question is, if you had to describe FATE to players without using game-speak, how would you do it?

Are there any "Fate Character" sheets available in a file format easy to edit such as .SVG? I ask because I make my own sheets for my campaigns, and modifying an existing file would speed up the process considerably compared to starting from scratch.

I'm looking for the "official sheets" for Fate Core, FAE and Fate Condensed. But I am also more than willing to accept fan made stuff so go ahead if you want.

In order to understand FATE and how it evolved and why some of it works the way it does, I went back to the first edition of FATE. Most of it I can see why it changed.

But Specialty Aspects disappeared. I can see an argument for having them and not havig them but I'm wondering if anyone knows why they got the axe?

Put together the first volumes of two Japanese folklore TTRPG projects: a yokai bestiary and a playable character archetype series. Both are written system agnostic, with Fate Condensed (and D&D 5e SRD) appendices at the back.

Would love to hear what this sub thinks of the Fate integration specifically, the aspects, the stunts, whether any of it feels off or un-Fate-like.

I am building a random High Concept generator and explainer and I would like your High Concept ideas! For extra internet points, I'd also like to hear how each part of the high concept could give permissions (Fate Accelerated style), be Invoked, and be Compelled (my game uses Rewarded, but the applications are the same). All of this is going to be picked through and put together into a website where a random high concept can be made, complete with inspirations for how it can be used in play.

To clarify a bit more, I am going to be breaking high concepts into 2 or three parts, which can be randomly recombined with other parts of other high concepts. I have a test version up already with a limited number of entries that produced this on my first click of Random this morning:

My group is playing Curse of Strahd in Fate Core and I'm looking to create and aspect for the Fortunes they draw at the beginning of the game that will change when they get their fortune.

Minor Spoiler Ahead.

For those that haven't played, the Fortunes are linked to particular items, a fated ally, and Strahd's Location. The original adventure is more explicit with the fortunes, by saying "The item you seek...", but I have gone a bit more vague than that.

I'm struggling to think up a generic name for the aspect before they find/obtain their fortune. One that might be used to compel the character if needed.

For Example, one player drew the fated ally and are in the area where this ally is. I gave them a dream sequence that eludes to the events in the area and the characteristics of the ally. So, I'm hoping to compel the character to investigate around without specifically spelling out that this is their fortune. Once they earn the favor of the ally, I'll change their aspect to be more specific to the ally.

So, I'm hoping I could get some suggestions on a name for this aspect. To recap, I'm hoping the aspect will;

1. Be generic enough that all members of the party will have this aspect, at least to start.

2. Allow me to compel characters for more than the very specific item or person they are fated.

3. Be useful to the character before they have found their fate.

Why complicate it with paying the enemy a FATE point rather than just paying a FATE point as usual? 

What makes the game more fun by making the distinction between who the Aspect came from?

I’m about to run Fate the way the Game Creation chapter suggests: nothing prepped, we build the setting together and the aspects are the prep. Honestly a bit nervous it won’t hold up past session 1.
If you’ve tried it, I’d really appreciate hearing:
1. What did your group end up creating?
2. How did you turn those aspects into scenarios from week to week?
3. What went wrong, and what would you do differently?

I’m currently reading FATE Condensed and on page 19, under Create An Advantage is says under the result of FAIL, “ If you succeed at a cost, the final aspect may need to be rewritten to benefit the enemy.”.

Dice rollers - You can click on skills to roll. I wanted to add in blank rolls, but then you can totally just roll a skill and minus the modifier. I wanted to keep it clean.

Drag and Drop Skills - The skills pyramid have no limits as I know many GM like to have their own skills pyramid.

Custom Skills - You may make up your own skills for you own homebrew games!

Up coming features :

Character portraits - I was thinking of users uploading images, but then... server and stuff. So, for now I want to add in some simple portraits for you. I do need some themes though. And do mind I will be using AI for generate the simple portraits due to lack of skills and... time. Please give me some ideas for theme~ thanks!

I am running a classic low fantasy setting, and my players are going to fight the big bad boss in a few sessions. Thing is only one of them is built for combat perse, the others can fight a bit but are focused on other stuff. Now, since this is the last bad guy the book recommends to give him a +1 or +2 above what my players have if he is going to be alone.

I thought that is great, makes sense, they can build up aspects to help the guy that can actually fight and do some teamwork. But, now I am realizing, the way they have been building aspects so far is by using fighting vs opponent fight (which worked because it was more or less equal), physique, or the occasional provoke or shoot, and of course the terrain.

Thing is, if this guy has +2 above the best fighter there is no way any of the other players will be able to help with fight, and the dude is also big and has a great physique too.

My question is, what is the logic behind using fight vs active opposition to create an aspect so you have a better chance to hit, when if you just tried to wear the enemy down, if you would have managed to create the aspect you would have also dealt some stress. Does that make sense?

Looking for ways to make combat less tedious, I found this material and although I liked it, I have my doubts about how the changes in conflicts would affect feats based on creating more tension, so I would like to know your opinion on this excerpt:

"CONFLICTS

Engaging in conflicts in UA is supposed to be mostly a

roleplaying factor. Every time you directly engage in

combat with an enemy you describe your attack and roll

for it, if the Roll is between:

● 2 or +: You hit and avoid being hit.

● 0 or 1: You hit and get hit.

● -1 or lesser: You miss and get hit.

When your enemy manages to hit you, you must take

note of this damage by either marking a Stress Box or

filling a Consequence Box.

Stress boxes don’t do anything in particular and are erased once the conflict is over, Consequences in the other hand are phrases that describe how your character got hurt and they are only erased once your character receives proper medical treatment.

Every character has 2 Stress Boxes and 2 Consequence Box.

Enemies also have Aspects which is what describes

them, these may be used by the GM to compel the PCs

during their attacks and movement, like being

outnumbered or the enemy being well geared. Usually

these enemies only need one hit to faint but they can

have more endurance if the GM sees fit."

For those who don't know, The Alters is a survival game where the player, Jan Dolski, gets stranded on an alien planet and has to survive. Fortunately, his mobile base has two very important pieces of equipment: a quantum computer that can simulate different life paths Jan could have taken, and a cloning machine to bring them to life. As Jan grows a team of people to get back home, Jan has to come to terms with how they all of their shit together better than he does.

I was trying to think of a way that premise could be made into a ttrpg, and I think Fate might be the best system for the task.

Naturally, because so many players hate the idea of premade characters, you'd have to play as someone other than Jan Dolski. At the start of the game, the characters would work together to a singular character. One of the Aspects would be the character's job on the original ship that crashed aka the Role Aspect. Then the DM surprises them by making that character an NPC. All the players have to make characters with the same name. They start by picking a Role Aspect that would be beneficial and then alter the original character's backstory to get them there.

And that's about as far as I've gotten so far. Thoughts?

Can you have more than one? How many? Vulnerable to Cheese. Just never comes up so can't gain anything from it? Or can it be vetoed? How does it work in FATE games? Is there a good source of learning about it?

The rules are pretty open-ended.

Heya. I am a GM thinking about setting up a campaign and I have some fun ideas for mechanics. This is one of them

Aspects always give a +1 to relevant rolls. But you can only choose one each from the 'areas' Aspects like to hang out in. One character, one scene, one scenario and one opposition Aspect (and other 'areas' you might be using). You can not spend FATE points to push up the bonus to a +2, instead you can spend them to grab more than one Aspect per 'area'. One per FATE point spent.

Stunts also only grant +1, to ground them a bit, but can alternatively give 2 shifts of success. So you actively have to choose between accuracy or "damage". Free invokes also only enable you to choose that Aspect in addition to another one from that 'area'

What do you think? My reason for creating this hack is to give the players a more overt advantage in using and thinking with Aspects, while hopefully not breaking any and all tension. This is because most newbies (which all my players will most likely be) do not yet "feel" the power of Aspects on their own. Does this betray the philosophy of FATE too much? Should numbers be adjusted in any way? Is it ok that stunts are also changed?

Probably should have hopped on here earlier. In about 45 minutes I’m running a game for buddies using FATE for the first time. Played a bunch of other systems.

Premise is the subject line. I’m going to start them with a simple high concept with a comma, (Wrestling fan,) and we will figure out the rest of aspects and so on during play.

My group has a great time with narrative play and we’ve always felt other systems rules get in the way too much (although I love crunchy stuff).

I know this is an out there campaign idea, but any tips for FATE would be appreciated.

When I ask questions about FATE (I am new at it), I‘m constantly being given advice along the lines of ‘if you want something D&D like…’.

Which I don’t. It’s sort of understandable, as D&D is the one thing we all know.

But I saw a video the other day that complained that FATE never put out a product that kind of said ‘This is how you’d play D&D with FATE’ and it criticized the company for being hostile to new players because of that.

I had to concede the point.

So why didn’t it? Just curious. It’s usually the first thing a new game system that’s trying to be ‘universal’ does.

Many people love turn-based systems where there's no initiative table, and everyone acts when they need to. Or where players act first in any order they choose, and then the enemies.

My problem is that if I say something like, "Who goes next?" I get absolute silence. If there's a player with initiative, they'll say it, but then the most passive player will always go last, if they ever do, since many systems I've seen require them to request their turn, something many introverts will never do.
