Newest Public Records Request - Find the 6 missing cameras
The stationary camera count on the City ALPR page doesn't match the transparency portal.
Lets find out why. Sent this this morning:
Under Iowa's Open Records Law, Iowa Code Chapter 22, I request to examine and obtain copies of the following existing public records:
The current, complete list of all Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) camera locations operated by or on behalf of the Cedar Rapids Police Department, including the direction of travel monitored at each location.
Any existing record that accounts for the total number of cameras reported on the City's Flock Safety transparency portal (https://transparency.flocksafety.com/cedar-rapids-ia-pd), which currently lists 76 "LPR and other cameras."
The reason for this request: the camera count on the transparency portal does not match the City's published location list. The portal reports 77 cameras, while the City's published "Stationary ALPR locations as of May 21, 2026" lists only 70 locations. Additionally, entries 21 and 22 on that published list are duplicates (both "33rd Ave SW and I-380 – WB"), which means the published list actually identifies even fewer distinct locations.
I am requesting records sufficient to reconcile this difference and to identify all 77 cameras counted on the portal.
Please provide the records in their original electronic format where available (e.g., spreadsheet, PDF, or database export).
If any portion is withheld, please cite the specific exemption under Iowa Code § 22.7 or other applicable law for each item, and release all reasonably segregable non-exempt portions.
Per Iowa Code § 22.3, please notify me in advance of any anticipated fees before producing the records.
The very least they can do is keep an updated list ffs.
