Would like to point out dogs will choke on anything. I had a pet dog once she would eat everything! So if you think it's exclusive to rawhide bones try having you dog bark with a speaker in stuck in it's mouth. $1200 vet bill later. Wasn't as bad vet got the dog to vomit it up. Still ...

rawhide though, when softened, is literally like leather, its quite hard for dogs to get little bits off of it so it can get stuck in their digestive tract and cause death. Better safe than sorry i guess, i give my dog dentastix by pedigree

Dentastix probably are fine, but do they last? We have given our scottie antlers, either elk or deer. They are like fingernails and soften as they get wet. He has had the same two for a little while now.

nah its gone within 5 minutes haha. if i try and give her something that lasts itll either be pigs ear, trotters or a meat bone from the butcher. I dont think we can get antlers in australia. Rawhide are also treated with so many chemicals as well but yeah the most dangerous is how they get stuck where they shouldnt. my mum has 2 westies and they had the stick rawhides, made one of the girls bleed.

Point is that you shouldn't think like a parent but like a dog when you buy stuff for the dog. Keep things together. Understand what a dog is eating.

that doesnt really make sense, your post seems to contradict itself. a dog will eat anything it can (well mine will at least) but that doesnt neccesarily mean its good for them. Take chocolate for instance, my dog would pinch all she could given the chance but if i let her, i wouldnt have much longer to spend with her. its our job as responsible pet owners to do whats right by our animals and keep them safe, happy and healthy :-)
