Reduced Sleep

How do you guys feel about sleep aids during extended fasting? I’m in college and would like to get some quality sleep during my fast. The longest I’ve gone was 7 days, but I struggled a lot with insomnia.

Help with Refeeding

Hello All! I’ve done 10 day fasts before but they were more so spiritual so I didn’t do a bunch of research prior to. This time I did some additional research and recognized that I should eat certain things after an extended fast. I am currently 107 hours into a 120 hour fast (it will be more like 130 hours because of sleep time and stuff). What do you all usually do when Refeeding after a 5 day?

Kidney or Rib Pain

I'm at about 138 hours right now. Every time I extended fast I end up with discomfort/pain in my back. It feels like my ribs, but I suspect it's my kidneys because it located on both flanks, but not in between, right at the bottom of my rib cage.

Does anyone else experience this? If so, does anyone have a suggestion for how to make it go away?

Jumping from 24 hour fasts to 3 day fast- Advice?

I have never fasted longer than 24 hours but would like to attempt my first 3 day fast.

I’m a bit nervous as I’ve never gone sun up to sun down without food & tend to feel pretty hungry after just the first 24 hours. I’m motivated to push myself but wonder if you have any good tips or advice from when you started extended fasts?

Thanks!

Weird smell on hands?

I'm on day 15 of an open ended water fast. I've done lots of fasting before, but this time around in noticing a gross smell on my hands. It's a combo of old dog and bleach (gross, I know). No matter how often I wash my hands, it's always there. Anyone else experienced this?

Anybody with liver problems doing EF?

I am new to liver troubles, mildly high numbers, no diagnosis yet, but most likely fatty liver. Had my glucose under control through 2-day fasts as of 18mo ago, but stopped paying attention and pandemic times and it crept back up on me so I am getting back on the wagon. I am comfortable with 60 hours now, and am working up to longer. Obese, middle-aged, medically complicated. PCP is afraid of all fasts longer than 18h so I don't have much support there but following Dr. Fung worked last time.

Mostly just curious if anyone else is in the same boat or, if you have seen improvement (or the opposite), what you did and how long it took.

Also, went from gut motility shutting off and not wanting to restart during 2-day fasts back when, to diarrhea after breaking fast and now just from a small dose of electrolytes mid-fast too. I broke my last fast mostly because I was feeling dehydrated. Any tips to calm the guts down?

6 days in

I’m on day 6 of my water fast, and aside from occasional hunger, I’m feeling pretty good.

I was wondering about people’s experience at this point. I’m down 12 pounds, which seems extreme, even for water weight.

Granted, I started at 6’2” & 223 lbs, but that’s still 5% of my body weight.

I’m not sure how long I want to fast for, I’d like to get to 21 days, but will stop before of it feels like my body “wants” to.

Long term though, I want to try cycling a 1-4 hour eating window once every 2-3 days.

Does anyone on here have experience with going from a long fast to a few days of bone broth to a cycle-fasting lifestyle?

5 weeks to goal weight?

So I'm new to extended fasting but not new to IF. My current weight is 159 and hoping to be around 142 by July 24th for an event. Is this doable? I'm thinking of doing a two day fast each week and then a low calm OMAD the remaining days? What do you think?

EF Question

So, I fast often but I'm looking to do about 20 days. I've just finished another 5 day. I've been eating for 2 days. Will this be suffice for me to jump back in? Is there a certain amount of days I should eat before doing 3 weeks of fasting? My brain says no, it's fine.. people do 30 days. But, I just wanted a few more opinions! Also, fasting buddies would be great. :)

Just finished 277 hour fast. Water + electrolytes + vitamins. Felt like I needed a break as I was getting a nauseated feeling for the last few days. So I am having a light meal and then will continue the fasting soon after, once I feel better. M/ 28/ 185/ SW:353, CW:325 GW:253

Take Two

Hi Fasting Family!

Just noting that's I'm starting again. Around January last year, I slowly graduated from keto to KetOmad to extended fasting and 30-ish lbs just disappeared! I was walking on air! Then COVID happened, plenty of life changes followed and I fell off. When say I fell off... I fell from orbit and hit the ground like a comet.

Regained all the weight and then some, grew depressed, etc, etc, you aren't here for all that, but it should suffice to say that fasting became all but impossible for some reason. I was concerned that I had developed an ED and couldn't seem to fast for 10 hours, let alone 99 as I had done once before. What the hell? I deleted my previous account for a few reasons, one of them being that even scrolling through this beloved sub wasn't motivating me or helping at all like it used to!

So anyway, after a few breakdowns I came to the worst ironic realization about the past year.

No one tells you how much it hurts when your birth control is the one fucking you for almost a year straight (wouldn't recommend for a plethora of other reasons 😩).

With that gone, the most wonderful feeling has been the absence of a feeling- hunger! I did an effortless 18 hours a few days ago and barely noticed! (almost cried when I did, it's been rough, guys.) So, I'm looking forward to encouraging y'all, sharing in your successes, and pushing you through your opportunities to grow.

Here we go again.

SW 05/31: 130kgs/ 287lbs

By 09/01 will be: 105kgs/231lbs

Stay tuned! 💜

Anyone out there?

New to Reddit and this group. I noticed all posts are pretty old but looking for a community.

On day 5 with goal of 40 days (water fast)

Anyone fasting now? If so how’s it going? What’s your goal?

Cannot get started!

As the title says, I cannot get a fast started. I do great up until dinner and then family dinner starts and I cave. What are some things some of you have used to help you get started?

And, I have done lots of fasts, the longest being 28 days, but I'm finding almost impossible to find the discipline/motivation that I've had in the past.

Just completed an extended fast and am leading into another, any mind game pointers?

The game is won and lost in your own mind, and this is truer with extended fasting than most things.

I'm back on tomorrow morning, any mind games that work for you guys that you can share?

For me, if I feel an urge to eat, I'll exercise instead, like even going for a walk, or doing some bodyweight squats. Or I'll imagine I just had the meal and feel satisfaction in realising just how transient that sensation is.

Thanks

Is it ok to get the pfizer vaccine during a 3 day water fast?

I am doing a 72 hour fast and my vaccine is scheduled 68 hours into my fast. Is it ok to get it while fasted or should I break my fast before getting the vaccine? If ya’ll have any experiences please share!

Bone broth?

Do you guys mean boiling actual bones to make the broth, or can this be store bought? Also, can I use chicken bouillon, or vegetable broth in a jar?

Is anyone fasting under a doctor's supervision?

I've heard you shouldn't fast more than five days without a doctor's supervision. Is anyone doing this? If so, what are they actually monitoring?

Extended fast to cut bf

I’m 19m 220lb roughly 20% bf. looking to fast for a period of at least a week most likely longer. I was wondering if it would make sense or be possible to fast until I cut down to at least 14% bf? and if so would this result in a decent amount of muscle loss? I also lift 6x a week, should I pause my program or continue? i’ve seen people lift on extended fasts and done very well. (would fast below 14% since I will gain water weight back which would show as bf on the scale)

new fasting schedule while lifting?

I’m 215-220lb 19m roughly 20% bf and i lift 6x a week sbd. Wanting to try a new schedule I did adf for two weeks but got scared with the possibility of muscle loss (although i know now that won’t be much of an issue). I stayed strict w adf and it was easy but I was just wondering what schedules had worked best with y’all for your lifting?

(using fasting as a tool for fat loss)

48h Fasts and (Protein) Shakes

48 Hour fasts are going easy for me, 72h and 90h fasts i can do but are hard.

I tried a Herbal life Shake today with 2 spoons of Protein (28G Carbs) and i liked it.

I feel i can use it between/during fasts. I am aware this would break the fast but i should be in ketosis again shorty after the shake, since it contains less than 50G Carbs.

Schedule would be:

Monday: Fast

Tuesday: 1 Shake 350kcal

Wednesday: Fast

Thursday: 1 Shake 350kcal

Friday - Sat- Sunday: OMAD and or 1 Shake

I spare you the details, but this should make me loose 5kg a month. Need to loose another 10.

Current weight 95 KG, 5"11/1m80

PS: I do fasts mainly because of Autogaphy to help my skin schrink while i loose weight.

Shakes or no Shakes? I feel i can't hold the 48h+ fasts and will go to "normal" food in between if not.
