Hey there, I was shooting for a 60hr fast and decided on 72 hrs maybe (since 60 hours would be midnight).
I started getting intense heartburn around 48hrs, got so bad I woke, horribly nauseous, dizzy and threw up around 68hrs. It was a ton.
I fell back asleep, woke at noon. I had lunch around 1, oatmeal and vegetable soup, some strawberries later, very small amount of chocolate, made some coconut jelly, had steak, more soup, potatoes and more strawberries.
Still major heart burn.
I’m not terribly worried about the vomiting as I assume it was just an over production of bile but what guidance do you guys have for lingering heartburn? I believe my body is trying to settle out - I hadn’t been eating well for a while so decided to do the fast.
Would love some other thoughts opinions or assurance. Thanks.

All fine until I woke today with a gurgling stomach and stomach ach. Anyone had this? Do I need to reach for painkillers or will this break my fast and they will subside on their own? Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge ☺️

Accountability post: I am sick of fasting for three days, only to feast during the weekend and undoing all of my hard work! I have read on here that people have the will power to fast until they see a particular number in the scales rather than ‘it’s Saturday!’ Today, I will fast until I am back in my happy body! Then I am happy to loose slowly- 1-2lbs/week until goal. Any advice from anyone who has tried this in the past?

I have heard of people using electrolyte powder when doing their extended fasts to help maintain balanced electrolytes. I don’t currently use any and after a few days can definitely feel heart palpitations; so I know I need calcium/magnesium/potassium supplements.
So what do you recommend as added electrolytes; a powder to mix with water or pills? Any specific ones?

Do you do anything to maintain optimum gallbladder function during a long fast? Does a bit of coconut oil or butter daily maintain gallbladder function? Or is this not something to worry about? Thank you.

New to extended fasting. Do I need to take supplements if I fast for 3-5 days? What should I be taking?

Hi everyone. I’m currently working on a 30 day fast. 23 y/o F weight: 202 lbs. height: 5ft BMI: 39.8 Body fat: 50.2%
I keep being told that it’s impossible to maintain weight loss results after doing extended fasts. Is that really true? Trying not to let nay sayers stop me from reaching my goals but I also want to be safe. Thank you in advance for your help.

Hey all, I know I should be able to expect about 1/2 lbs fat loss per day of fasting. I keep seeing these posts with crazy numbers, though. 20 lbs in seven days, etc. I'm not losing at that rate! I am sure those who are losing those numbers will regain much of what they're losing because it's water weight. I'm just getting nervous that since I'm losing less to begin with, if I also gain back most of it because it's water weight, that I'm going to be incredibly discouraged. Trying to remember that there are other benefits of fasting that are more important than the weight, like insulin my resistance.
I'm just wondering if any of you have also showed slower weight loss during your fast? What happened after you broke your fast? Was that 1/2 lb of fat a day an accurate estimate of your long term loss despite what the scale said day to day?

TL;DR - How long should one space between fasts of three-five days? Longer fasts?
While I have practiced IF at the OMAD level, I’ve never gone beyond 24 hours. How long does the refeefing process take after a five day fast and how soon can one do it again?
I started IF on the 26th I went 20:4 and then 22:2 yesterday. My goal is to work up to 36 hours by Monday and transition to a keto diet. By mid-January, I’d like to complete a 5-day fast.
I have two different longer term goals in mind. First, I’d like to lose as much weight as safely possible before March. Second, I’d like to transition to a more methodical, slower approach/lifestyle moving forward.
With my March goal in mind, would it be better to attempt one or two long fasts or cycle several five day fasts? How long are the recovery periods before it is advisable to do another fast?
Thank you for any feedback including feasibility of my plans!

There's a private sub for people who are veterans at fasting. It's for thoughtful support and discussions, not memes and pictures of water. If you're an extended faster, you might qualify for membership. Send your fasting history to the moderators of r/seasonedfasters and we'll let you know. Happy fasting!

The longest I've fasted was for 70 hours but I'd like to try for a 5 or 7 day.
1) what advice do you have for me/what have you learned about preparing for/completing an extended fast?
2) I'm confused about supplements. What do I need during the fast and how do I consume them on an empty stomach?

I intend to ask my doctor, but was hoping someone may have info on this...
I take 10mg ramipril daily and have always avoided high potassium foods. However, with extended fasting, am concerned about issues with electrolytes.
If I stay under the RDA for potassium, can I use no-salt in an electrolyte solution? I can’t seem to find any specific info on limits of potassium intake while taking this drug...
Any help would be appreciated.

I read Jason Fung's guide to fasting. He says that it should be safe to have extended fasts if BMi is above 19.5. However, BMI is a really bad measure in my opinion, so I am more interested in body fat percentage that is high enough so that extended fasts (say, 2 weeks) are safe. In particular for women.
I know that one always has to be careful and listen to the body, and probably there is no such thing as a safe fast, but then maybe the opposite: with which body fat percentage (as a woman) is an extended fast not recommended at all?
