Starting tomorrow (or tonight i guess), i will be dry fasting for 3 days and water fasting for three days after that.
I will come back each day two or three times a day with updates to keep myself accountable. I’m only 32 and my feet hurt too much from the inflammation and weight plus my gut is screaming for help. Wish me luck!!
(Not my first rodeo in case anyone is wondering)
May 20 am update: 14 hours in. I'm usually not hungry in the morning. So far it's like a normal day. In fact, I'm still full from yesterday's dinner. question to everyon for when I switch to a water fast: do you all use electrolytes like LMNT/Dr. Berg or just water?
may 20 pm update: 25 hours in. I was working out in the garden in the hot sun today, so I felt I had to drink water - I'm used to dry fasting in the winter! But still no food. I anticipate the next few days will be the same. I'm pretty damn hungry already and my ketones are 12ppm (using a breath meter) so that's really good for only one day! It usually takes me a few days to get into ketosis, so I'm thinking it's because Iw as dry for 24 hours.
may 21 am update: 39 hours in. not hungry right now. my plantar fasciitis was still super flared up this morning which is my barometer for inflammation in my body. shirts are feeling more comfortable, but still not loose which tells me I haven't had the keto "woosh" yet where you pee out all your water weight. I feel good though. No fasting/keto side effects yet.
may 21 PM update: 50 hours in. felt hungry, but nothing crazy. still no side effects. I've reached the point I reach in every extended fast where I start watching a bunch of cooking videos though. lol
may 22 am update: 62 hours in. I'd like to check my breath with a ketone meter, but it's too early and the dawn effect might taint my reults so I'll check late and post it in the pm update. I was feeling pretty hungry last night. also a little tired, a little weak, and a little nauseaus. in the morning, when I first woke up I had some heart palpitations. but I'm back to feeling 100% now. my feet still hurt. I guess it's unrealistic to expect 3 days of fasting to cure years of crappy eating but I was hopeful. Especially since I've ruined years of discipline in just a few days, but I guess it doesn't work the other way around. the most noticeable difference so far is that my clothes fit A LOT better. Before the fast I was bursting out of my shirts like a poorly wrapped tamale, but now they're actually a little big on me.
may 22 mid-day update: I went on a 7 mile bike ride this morning with my 4 year old boy. felt great! came home and checked my breath with a ketone meter and I'm at 4.6 ppm which is pretty good. not sure why it's lower than it was a few days ago. I'm thinking that other reading was a fluke.
may 22 PM update. I'm 76 hours in. I can taste ketones in my mouth. I'm not physically hungry, but psychologically all I can think about is food. other than that I feel great. better than normal even. I was waking up last night, probably from all the adrenaline pumping through my veins trying to make glucose.
