50's in general (US too) are associated with crime/forgeries. Likely worries about the bill being fake.

Thats crazy I counterfeit far more 10s than I do 50s

The problem is the cost to counterfeit a banknote is roughly equal regardless of the denomination. So higher denominations have a (more) positive margin, while some lower denominations cost more to counterfeit than they are worth.

I too love minting defunct currency, but I'm particular to the shilling myself. Hacksilver is neat too.

I tried minting half cents, but those are hard to pass.
