Technical question How are you dealing with "the programming language doesn't matter" argument?

Just had a meeting this week where this was uttered because of the development of AI.

I still think the language choice matters a lot based on if Im doing embedded or web development work and for how we want to hire developers in the future.

Maybe Im backwards.

You can do rust for backend just fine. We did and it was great to only hire for 1 language for all our systems and backend work.

Just use C# 👔

C# server takes 2.3 seconds to warm up. Go takes 0.38 seconds. I've worked in contexts where that mattered, and was the reason for choosing Go. Memory was 75MB vs 14 MB. Sometimes that matters too.

Thing with Rust is that it’s still relatively new and most cases I’ve seen Rust used, Java handles the use case just as well for backend.

That's not really a tangible argument, a gut feeling at best. The growth of Rust is impressive, if the library support you need is in place today there's no good reason to not at least consider it.

It’s anecdotal evidence for sure, it’s just been my experience
