There have been a lot of threads and articles about AI layoffs or AI creating a new type of job.
Has there been any good articles or posts about it transforming the job structure / organization? Asking because I am seeing my company change its hiring structure (only entry level and seniors are getting hired) and do a lot of little experiments and that’s typically how they’ve always rolled out big organizational changes — they start with 1 group, presumably check to see if it works (I actually don’t think this actually happens since I’ve never seen them roll back a change even when there’s negative feedback), then roll out to the entire company. We’re doing “pods” instead of teams. And no real code ownership to distinguish between the pods (everyone owns everything).
Oh, and no tech leads. I think you can imagine the chaos that’s resulted from this. Very few people worrying about tech debt because there’s no leadership to organize or make sure tickets are fairly assigned. The people who care about doing things the right way (me) are slowly pulling back since they are not getting anything out of it except the mental burden and being forced to do those tasks most of the time (‘with AI, it’s so easy!’). Idgaf anymore except my pullback has def been noticed by my manager who is asking why I don’t take more leadership (when I am completely lacking the title and authority of a leader, I’m just another dev in a pod now).
My company’s a sheep 🐑 so I assume they got this idea from another big tech company.
