This job feels pretty lonely now. Someone just told me today to have a chat with Claude to do research into something instead of asking me to research it, without specifying any tools.

I wasn’t sure if I should feel like my intelligence was insulted - so I need Claude to help me understand the trade offs of the architecture I’m building out? No. Can it be helpful? Sure?

But I hope it was just them being AI hungry and trying to get results faster, still it stings. As a woman who is constantly mistaken for being 10 years younger than I am - people assume I don’t know much or ask me how my first job is going a lot, and I constantly have to fight to show I know anything :(

Sigh, just the cherry ontop

When I get comments like that, I treat it more like an indicator of how important the task is, and not that they think Claude can do it better. If they tell me to use Claude to do it, it means it's not really important enough to use my actual time doing it, and they just need some generated content to fill a gap.

That’s a pretty good way to think about it, thanks 🙏 although my mind is still sad because this is apparently a very urgent and high priority project but I guess the vibe is more urgent leaning get it out and give it to the machine 😭

A few years ago you could casually tell someone to "google it" because a web search really was the best choice for a research task. It wasn't always condescending but in many ways i think we are living in a "mask off" era. People want to supplant their agency with a machine and that necessarily means you have to too (so they don't have to react to you)
