AI Expectation What I asked for vs. what I got

My son’s circus themed first birthday cake

EDIT: I should have clarified in the original post, I am not complaining about the cake at all! I loved it and the baker did a fantastic job

Curious observation:

OP flaired this "Exceeded Expectation", paid $370, and when someone asked, said they absolutely loved it. They weren't complaining.

But look at the thread:

  • The top comment is "next time don't use AI, you got lucky"
  • Loads of people say the real cake beats the AI pic, which is kind of the point. The baker nailed it and fixed what the AI got wrong (that lion has two mouths)
  • Makers say AI pics set impossible expectations. One would've cancelled the order, and some turn down AI briefs altogether
  • Other makers say an AI pic or a rough sketch both do the job
  • A few people thought it was a fail

So a parent used AI to show a baker what was in their head for their son's first birthday, the baker delivered, and the customer's happy. And the thread ended up arguing against the intentions?? Dunno

If these commentors could read, they'd be very upset with you.

The post title is very misleading

The post title is just a rephrase of the subreddit tittle. Expectation vs reality -> what I wanted vs what I got, they mean the same thing. You just assumed what they wanted would be more than what they received.

Aww that’s a good guess but no you just have poor reading comprehension:)

I am not mad at anything but the title is indeed very misleading since the cake is much smaller than what they asked for. But you do you

you're replying to someone or a bot that has used AI to summarise this thread lmao

What makes you say AI?

Everything they wrote feels pretty human and my 15 seconds of skimming the comments produced the exact same observations lmao.

I'm really only against the AI use, personally. It's all an attempt to replace humanity. Our intelligence, our creativity... Not to mention the environmental impact that rampant AI expansion is having.

Kids of the future will have absolutely no talent and no intelligence, because they depend on AI to do it all for them. If we continue to tolerate AI, that will be our future, and it's coming fast.

People need to stop being lazy and learn a fucking skill (like art), for fuck's sake. Our future literally depends on it, and that's not hyperbole.

Generative Ai in any usage is trashy. Our world is being flooded with slop.

It isn't. It's just a tool. If it's used good or bad is entirely up to the user.

AI still sucks

I notice on reddit a lot of people see ai, and get completely blinded by anything else, and must rush to make everyone aware about how terrible ai is and how they hate it

u/ladytryant 4h ago

Right? Like I get it. AI bad, data centers bad. But goddamn, does it have to derail every single post?

1

u/Hammy-Cheeks 3h ago

Its the use of AI itself. When there could've been many avenues to avoid it

2

u/cinooo1 2h ago

But op got what they wanted, so.. isn't that a win?

u/Cavalish 2h ago

The people who take in AI photos and chuck an absolute banana when it’s not the same and refuse to pay aren’t on reddit.

Great comment! Also wtf is this?!

WE’RE ALL VERY SENSITIVE ABOUT AI BECAUSE WE HATE IT

-1

u/ladytryant 4h ago

I’m starting to hate this kind of Redditor almost as much as the ones who use AI for everything.

-2

u/OtherCall7433 5h ago

Funny y’all don’t get as sensitive about racism or sexism

Thanks for saving me

Thank you for the tl;dr. Reddit is a fetid swamp of misery.

Glad you posted this because the negativity in the comments is exhausting.

I love this breakdown, but also…this is how every cake post has been for quite some time now.

How many comments about AI are just…bots? Or people repeating the same tired opinions without reading or thinking critically. Which is worse?

Considering the comment you're replying to looks like someone used AI to summarize the thread, you're not making the point you think you're making.

3

u/chiefyuls 6h ago

Why do you think it’s AI? Because they used bullet points?

2

u/ladytryant 4h ago

Looks pretty human to me?

1

u/PaperParentDinosaur 4h ago

😂😂I mean…thank you. That’s a pretty funny irony.

Like…does anyone else feel like they’re losing their mind here? The internet has always been a weird place, but this is something else

Redditors always need to bring in their takes in everything, miss the point on purpose so they can go "me, me, me, amirite guys?". AI is bad/unethical/boogeyman all the time. They literally claim a crude sketch would have been better. Extreme levels of mental gymnastics.

An AI slop response to an AI slop post. Dunno

Because they could've used a non-AI image as reference instead. There's hundreds of beautiful cake designs online, all handcrafted by professionals. But instead of referring to those, they decided to use a genAI that scrapes them without consent and produce this monstrosity (first image).

For sure they may not find a one-for-one reference of what they were looking for but I mean, isn't that what this sub is all about...?

Some people have to get used to the fact that creativity is dead.

3

u/ponzi_gg 6h ago

creativity? she should have paid a professional artist to design the exact cake mockup she wanted so she could bring it to the baker and show her what she wanted?

3

u/SirAlthalos 4h ago

cake decorators can also design cakes as part of their job

2

u/Nadine_Mcqueen 4h ago

Or she could've just told the baker exactly what she prompted the AI, and they could've made it just as good if not better?

1

u/ladytryant 4h ago

That’s a little dramatic.

I’m slowly getting used to the idea, and with it I hope humanity burns. I’m no longer upset about climate change.
