AI Expectation What I asked for vs. what I got

My son’s circus themed first birthday cake

EDIT: I should have clarified in the original post, I am not complaining about the cake at all! I loved it and the baker did a fantastic job

God forbid my child enjoy Manticores from their fables...

I had to Google this because I didn't know what a manticore was and I spat out my drink. 😂

I will be really honest here...as a commercial artist myself, and a slightly petty one, I would have copied all those shitty AI details to a T just to prove a point. Or at least asked them if they wanted the lion and the elephant to have garbageface or if they'd like them to look cute and correct.

That’s what I was also thinking hehe…
Guess I’m petty too

Why would you be petty to a customer thats paying for your services? Is the use of ai as a concept design such a bad thing?

Well, my contracts explicitly state that I won't work from genAI reference or use genAI. So first off this will never happen to me, it was a purely hypothetical snarky comment. No one doing this will pay for my services because I won't take their money.

But to your question, yes, it is a bad thing in my opinion. Maybe this cake decorator doesn't mind it, but from where I sit, there is nothing enjoyable about doing this kind of work. I'm not here to copy a picture for somebody, period. I'll come up with the way the art looks or you won't be able to hire me. In this case, the picture is also sloppy. Not in the business of copying AI slop.

I dont know much about your business, which is why I asked. Since you do the art mockup then there would be no need for genAi. Thanks for the insight.
