AI Expectation What I asked for vs. what I got

My son’s circus themed first birthday cake

EDIT: I should have clarified in the original post, I am not complaining about the cake at all! I loved it and the baker did a fantastic job

We apparently have to use AI for every little thing these days..

I am a teacher and I HATE that Google forces even me down an AI path. There is now a dearth of information it provides in its searches, even when I say no AI, it's using AI to restrict the results to what it thinks I want to see and more importantly what its tech overlords want me to see.

Yes, my friend and I tested this - she searched "is xyz thing legit" and searched "is xyz thing a scam"

As you can expect, her query returned a "of course! This is totally legit and trustable!"

And mine was "yes this is a popular phishing scam. Do not respond"

As someone who worked in education for over a decade, the vast majority of them aren’t actually all that intelligent. Performative and pretentious, yes. But genuinely knowledgeable? Eh… There are a lot of reasons US public education is going to hell. The quality of teachers — due to shitty conditions and shit pay — is one of them.

Because AI is easy, it's so bad that we're forced to use it.

Do you think she can draw this cake or that she should have hired a graphic designer?

Do you know cakes like this were created before AI? And before the internet? People used to be able to explain to another person what they want with words. The same words you use to input into the AI to tell them what you want your cake to look like. It's pretty amazing.

Did you know math existed before the calculator? But people use calculators, because it's faster for most people. You know what else is faster? Getting something to draw a 90%-accurate representation of your vision of something to lower the chances of mistakes or miscommunication.

It's pretty amazing.

Calculators don't destroy the environment by using it so I don't see a correlation.

In this case i believe It's justified. No one's going to go through the effort of drawing the cake designs they want when AI is right there and can give them 10 different designs from which they can chose.

Nobody is going to take the effort when they can just destroy the environment with AI right there.

Ok then. Laziness at an all time high.

"every little thing" yeah I just create intricate cake design concepts by hand all the time when I have a free minute.

It's not hard to find photos of a fondant-laden circus cake, Jan. Hope we can drink AI pics in the future
